It's not that they don't do good work, but they happily charge at least double of their competitors. Any change later isn't a few dollars, but a few thousand. All of these documents are in a word program, it's not a big deal. After Cliff being late to a meeting, and later not having documents at the office after I drove 45 minutes to pick them up, I was done. They do put on a good show and would make Billy Mayes proud. A different firm that completed the job stated the trust documents are not original to themselves, but are common to the industry. And my cost was nearly a third of Rice & Rice. Wish we would have checked the reviews prior to visiting rice and rice. Totally agree with all the negative reviews. Biggest mistake we've ever made. The point of contact person at front door Lacks compassion, courtesy, and anything remote of having a heart. Fortunately was able to find an attorney who could fix and undo everything that rice and rice did. And their point of contact person was beyond excellent. I'm sure rice and rice was much better when first started . I think they've lost the family heart now that they've got so many people working on board. Complete Shyster. Spent THOUSANDS on his trust, life is fluid and needed to make some changes. He wants $4000.00 more to make a few changes. Had to sit down and listen to him babble on for an hour making it look like I was worth way more than I am so he can take me to the cleaners AGAIN. When he was done with his brainwashing, we wanted to think it over and he got indignant, snippy, weird. He likes to program you that his is the only way to have it done -right... Did estate planning and trust for my parents. The paperwork is incomplete and inaccurate (names not even spelled correctly on some pages). They don't respond when you, as the trustee, contact them repeatedly. Waste of time and money. They try to woo you with a dinner you'll pay for over and over. Just put your money in the trash and know what your loved ones have done will not be correct. read more

Please be very cautious about using this firm. The prey on older individuals and take 2x the cost of other law firms for providing simple services. They charged $10k to execute my father's trust when he passed and took a portion of the value when they already paid to establish the trust. Please use another lawyer unless you want to be taken in your time of need. read more

In short, they appear to prey on individuals who do not have prior knowledge of the law or their estate planning. After reading my fathers trust and seeing it reviewed by other well qualified attorneys and a judge, their work product appears to not be legally binding and their tactic is borderline malpractice. This is not an estate attorney to let them handle your famileys life long estate. They collect your money and do not make the executor do anything it has been 4 years and my brother who was exexutor paid some of the money to benificiarries but he and his dihonest wife decided to remodel a old home they just bought pay off their sons medical bills from a motorcyle accident and the worst part is if u are a benificiary they do not make the executor reveal how or where the money is going it is the law to keep track of mobey in and out this exrcutor needs to be removed they are not doing anything about it so if i were u afree dinnet thats what they give u is not worth 4 years of fighting all i wanted was to see the ledger kept for all monies which i am entiteled to now i dont even get phone calls back read more

My family regrets using Rice and Rice. Once you pay for services, they will not return phone calls or follow through on actions. After having read reviews on poor customer service, we also read that they were a Christian-based company and gave them the benefit of the doubt for estate planning. Buyer beware!! There are other attorneys that will handle/create your trust for less than half of what he charges. Initially charge was $4000. when returning 10 years later to make two changes to the already created trust, we got the full 1 1/2 hour talk from Mr. Rice on video call from who knows where. he recommended several other changes for us to make up to $12,000.00 in addition to the initial $4000.00 we paid. Just to escape that day, we put $2000.00 down per credit card. after recovering from shell shock, we decided not to proceed and called the office the next morning first thing to ask for a refund. we were told that Mr. Rice would return our call. did not happen. called back again the next day and was told again he was out. I told the receptionist that I was totally dissatisfied with the amount of money he was charging us again and we were seeking counsel elsewhere. I stated I wanted a refund. Fortunately, we did receive a call the next day informing us we would receive a refund and in fact I did receive a receipt in the mail and a letter expressing surprise that we changed our minds but they accepted our decision not to proceed with a "restatement". too much money to have to do all the legwork yourself to fund your trust, which requires another seminar in order to understand how to. save your money! read more

They tried to basically rip off a widow.... Charging a flat fee of $7000 to process an estate for which I had already done most of the work! No accounting for how they came up with a figure except to say that they charge a flat fee... In Illinois that is now illegal... It tries to take advantage of the bereaved! Stay away! My parents went to Cliff Rice in 2013 to set up a living trust. In March 2017 my mom passed away and that is when I, along with my siblings, saw the trust for the first time. Rice charged my parents $3000 for a binder full of paper. We convinced my dad to have the so called trust revoked. After several attempts to contact Rice (I can't call him Mr.), my dad had to hire another attorney to have the trust revoked. We were lied to so many times in attempting to talk to Rice. His office staff even hung up on me while I was on the phone with her. Stay away! Our experience with him was a nightmare! In my opinion, he preys on the elderly. I had to rate him with one star to get my review posted, otherwise I wouldn't give him that! read more

We had gone to one lawyer for information about estate planning and setting up a trust. We then received an invite to a free seminar presented by Cliff Rice. With the amount of information that we received, the thoroughness of the presentation, and the details of the plan that was presented, it was an easy decision to go with Rice & Rice. Went to their seminar. Made an appointment. Wanted to charge my spouse and I over $4400 to do a simple trust. They inflated are assets and used scared tactics to get us to sign, we did not. We also had most of our planning done with our other Lawyer and they refused to look at that documented paper work and they wanted to redo everything, even though we did not need it. I don't think they were to up to date on the laws either. We went to another trust attorney and it cost us $900.00. read more

I am reporting on a letter received today, June 29, 2017, from Clifford Rice. In February, 2017, we agreed to allow Rice & Rice to create our separate trusts, one for the female at $2,000 and the other for the male at $3,000. We are not married but co-habitating for the past three years. We have known each other since the 7th grade and she married into our family in 1967 thus her last name has been the same as mine for 50 years. We are in our 70's. We had a meeting two weeks ago and asked Clifford Rice to prepare a deed putting my home in both our names. Clifford Rice balked at the idea but agreed to get a new deed by Tuesday. "I note that she has taken the last name "Dorn", notwithstanding the fact that there is no legal marriage in the state of Indiana." Rice did not like the fact that we wanted to title the house in such way that it will pass to her upon his death". She has contributed much to the home, and landscape financially. She has a vested interest in my home and I want to know she will have a place to live if I should pass first. He suggested and stated that "your step children will receive precious little, if anything when you die as a result of these new developments". Additionally, he wrote "that I am reluctant to make such a major change to someone who is not your spouse and to so fully disinherit your stepchildren." We feel like he is not representing our best interest as his clients, and assuming the stepchildren are going to be disinherited which is slanderous and disgusting. Two weeks ago we asked for the title change and today we get this letter, and later talked with Clifford on the phone after being told time and again that he was busy, on the phone, in a meeting, at a seminar, going on a trip. He should have told us two weeks ago that he will not do as we asked. As his clients, he will not help us! Verbally and in the letter, he said there is a conflict of interest and we need to find another counsel. He is going on vacation to Wyoming so is not available, period. I am facing heart surgery next week and as I am getting my "house in order", I certainly did not expect "my attorney" to represent my step children over me. So now, at the last minute, we have to try to find an attorney that will do the necessary paperwork. We are, quite frankly, shocked and disappointed that our trust in this man crumbled. read more
