You definitely can't beat UWP for proximity to campus, especially since half the walk is indoors…read morethanks to the bridge over University Ave. I stayed an Village 1 first year, and I'm glad I did, mostly because of the fact that there's a cafeteria, but also because of the density of people. It was a great place to meet lots of new people. At UWP on the other hand, you get a lot more space to yourself. You aren't always bumping into loads of people because the suites are mostly like any apartment. You and two or three roommates share a normal apartment, with kitchen, one or two bathrooms, and a common area. Most importantly, there's no cafeteria, so you need to cook for yourself, although you're very close to Campus Plaza in case you get too lazy to cook. I chose to stay in UWP for a Winter term because I didn't want to have a long walk to campus in 6ft of snow, uphill both ways, etc. and I'm very happy with my decision. I was a little unsure about going back into residence in an upper-year, with events organized by the don, less freedom than staying off-campus (quiet hours, etc.) All things considered, the very fast internet, reliable maintenance staff and all-inclusive utilities outweighed any negatives that are associated with residence. These and many other factors made the term very worry-free, which is great. You should be worrying about other things when you're at school. UWP even has a grocery shuttle every week to take you to and from the grocery store! The only thing that you need to be aware of, and this is the case with all University of Waterloo residences as far as I know, you need to pay for the entire four months up front along with tuition.

The building has many amenities including a fitness centre, study rooms, ping pong, party room, etc. The building has a few different restaurants on the commercial floor which can be accessed from outside of the building. The building management is by no means amazing but are, for the most part, better than the other managements around the city. It is nice that the office is right inside the building when you need them. I will say they are very evasive about promises that they've made, even ones that are written on paper. They will keep blowing these off untill your lease ends. The other con is that this building is very expensive to rent. The rent can be well over $800 per month depending on your circumstances, and signing bonuses do not happen here given its popularity. And just an FYI, the building demographics is similar to MC or DC, just saying. Tenants here tend to be spoiled and not understand that you must toss your garbage down the shoot, no one will do it for you. If you don't own a BMW, Benz or Porsche then your car will look like garbage in the Blair House lots (cry, that's me driving an old rusted beater). Overall, one of the best buildings in Waterloo especially for UW students. Lots of complaints but these would likely be the same complaints had you been living at any other building.

I'm not a picky person when it comes to money (I'm willing to spend for a place that's worth it) and I can tell you this place is NOT worth it at all. You can get a better place for the same amount of rent. Their buildings are outdated and not healthy. I developed a respiratory problem living in their tight sealed apartments. That's not the worst part: When you try and leave, they keep your deposit for as long as they can and make you go through so much to get it back(even though it's rightfully yours). They will also throw random things at you to make you pay i.e. damages that are not legitimate. I was with them for three years thinking that every year it might get better, but it never did. What really irritated me was the landlord at 49 Columbia as well as the building manager. When I moved in September 2016, the toilet was not flushing properly, the walls were damaged (might I add he told me they would be repainted) and I had to keep trying to remind the superintendent to do the repairs which was making me very uncomfortable because he is a very busy man himself. Furthermore, when I called my landlord due to the toilet not flushing he gave me a very rude look which I did not like at all as if I was the one who damaged the toilet. The issue with that is the toilet should have been properly working when I moved in, as well as the blinds and the walls should have been perfect but they were not. Additionally, I really do not like that the building manager always sends automated e-mails to people to remind them to pay their rent every month. I don't like that because I pay my rent on time every month and it insinuates that I don't. I don't care that other people don't pay their rent on time because that isn't my problem. Plus you have to pay for parking which is a pain, as well as extra for furnishings AND hydro. The price, in my opinion is not worth it for the quality of the service and the room. They are also far too particular with cleanliness when the place is not even that beautiful in itself. They also charge extra for a maid to clean the place if you leave the common area just a little bit unkempt. We all have our messy days at times but having someone clean and enter your unit without consent is disrespectful and then to follow with charging you as well. It is not ICON, Luxe or Sage so I think they should stop continuing such behaviour. The internet is very annoying because it works well sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't. The connection is rarely consistent. I had to text the technicians multiple times and that was very annoying. There is no point in depending on the landlord to do anything for you because he does not do repairs, it is mostly George the superintendent. The landlord only told me how much I should pay for rent but gave off a very negative vibe to me because he always frowned when I needed something which I really in fact hated. Made me very uneasy. Whatever you do, I do not recommend signing a lease with them. Look elsewhere.

The building is located at King Street North and Lodge Street. I was here with my manager to interview students for the summer work term. It was our first time at Laurier. As a visitor, I had to apply for a temporary parking pass online. It's allows me to park at any white or gold permit parking lot. The catch at this building is that there a small parking lot when you pull in from Lodge Street. If you get there before 8:30 am, you can nab a spot, which happened to us. However, you get there later, you need to park further away. The Co-operating Education area is on the second floor. We walked up the stairs. I don't know if there is an elevator in this building, but I didn't see one. The building is bright and pleasing to the eye. We were greeted immediately by a staff member and shown to a boardroom where we were to conduct our interviews. We were assigned a co-ordinator, who made sure that the candidates were led to a room to do a test. After the allotted test time was up, my manager would take the candidate over to the boardroom next door and have us conduct the interview. The test room and boardroom were next to each other. I loved that arrangement. What stands out is how hospitable everyone was. We got the tour of the floor and where we should be. Scott, our co-ordinator, made sure that we were taken care of. He got my manager tea and hot water. I had brought in a massive, free venti iced cinnamon cloud macchiato from Starbucks before I hit the road. I was caffeinated and good. Our interviews were seamless and everything worked well. The boardroom accommodated our laptop needs. Wifi was available. However, there is a timeout after roughly an hour, which is a pain to enter all login credentials again. I had a great experience here. I can finally say that I have stepped foot on the campus of Wilfred Laurier University. (118)

When a school is confined to a one block radius, a tight family feel is just the beginning of your experience. The people are friendly, and the profs actually get to know you since class sizes can range from 12-200. The food on campus is a little bleh. Since they got rid of Spring Rolls in the Food Court the options are a little slim, but after pulling an all nighter, anything edible pretty much gets the job done. Washrooms! For some weird reason compared to other schools, Laurier has A LOT of washrooms. And by that I mean if you walk into the Schlegel building, there are 5 washrooms within a 30 second walk in different directions. All clean and well kept. Study Space can be an issue though, especially for group projects. Try booking out library rooms a week in advance to get the space you need! Otherwise you'll be peaking in every classroom in desperate need of study space. The gym is also pretty solid. A newly renovated building with 4 dance studios, a gym, a pool, and 2 floors of cardio and weight equipment. Heads up, there's a washroom on the second floor! Lesson learned after I ran up and down 4 stories in the middle of dance class just to find a washroom right beside the studio I was in! Overall, worth checking out. Small schools aren't for everyone, but check it out to decide for yourself.
