Subletted here for 8 months in 2014 while I worked, not too great overall. If you can rent during just the summer months it is really nice though. I ended up with no roommates and 20MB/s speeds during the summer and it was the best. However during the winter I had 6 roommates (typically 4, but had +2 girlfriends living with the actual roommates) and the speeds hanged around 100KB/s anytime after 9am.
Pros
- Really good location, close to universities, the mall, and good bus stops
- Not too expensive, I was paying $650 a month
- There was always plenty of machines to use in the laundry room, never had it break down
- Furnished, shared TV in common room
- Your own bathroom
- If you rent in the summer, some of the roommates may be moved out!
- Garbage chute on every floor is really convenient
- Nice view
- Enough elevators that you're not usually waiting a long time
Cons
- at least 4 other roommates to share the kitchen with
- No oven in the kitchen, just a misleading looking stovetop/cupboard
- Thin walls, you can really hear EVERYTHING anyone did, no matter where you were in the suite
- The blinds that come with the room offer very little privacy
- Random fire alarms throughout the year that go on for an hour or two at random times during the night. Was nice to wake up at 3am because someone can't cook eggs.
- Very slow internet anytime after 9am! I did trace routes and every 4th packet was getting dropped on the way to the ISP from my building, so it was clearly not on my end or the ISPs end. I emailed the guys working there about it and said they'd "look into it". I asked how their progress was a week afterwards and got no reply. The speeds pick up 3 months later, during the summer, and I'm certain that it's because less people were using it.
- Can't pay to get a dedicated internet line. So you're stuck with horrible speeds if you're not there in the summer.
- Not a big deal, but you have to take recycling to the ground floor, so that's an entire trip if you're on the top floor
- Fitness room was always crowded, even in the summer - good life fitness is just around the corner though
- Painfully loud foosball and pool table in the lobby
- Lots of lazy people using the elevator to go up 1 or 2 floors
- Vending machine stole my change, talked to the person working the front desk and gave them my room number and phone number... didn't hear anything back ever again read more
