I have been seeing Dr. Jack Lam with Rex Pain Management for just over a year. In 2017, I had post-op hernia pain that Dr Lam was treating by administering injections. At first, I doubted it would help at all, but by the third injection (3 months apart each) the pain is nearly nonexistent. Then, after a car accident mid-2018, I went back to see Dr Lam for spinal pain. I've only had one epidural with Dr Lam since then (Nov 2018), but his technique and results were phenomenal! Prior to seeing Dr Lam, I had previously been seen by Duke Pain and was prescribed extremely high doses of pain medication for a pre-existing condition and it took months to wean off all the opiates. (I purposely chose to wean off the opiates as the long term use kept life from being enjoyable. Life just becomes numb.) I was worried that Dr Lam would just write for more pills and send me on my way, but this is not his philosophy. He is conservative in his treatment algorithms, yet remains thorough, thoughtful and *gasp* he actually listens to his patients. Dr Lam treated me like an individual patient with unique needs, not just throwing the same treatments at each patient. I was most appreciative of the fact that he recommended several options for helping to manage my pain without writing a prescription for opiates. This is how medicine should be routinely practiced! Also, staff is always polite, professional and is respectful of my time when I've visited the office for appointments or procedures. If you want a pain management provider that will look you in the eye while you're speaking, will actively listen to your concerns and needs, and is highly experienced with providing conservative, yet effective, treatments for your pain, please consider making an appointment with Dr Lam. He's worth every minute of your time to meet him and see if he can help you, too. read more

after seeing Dr. Shaw, he determines that all my other doctors are wrong without looking at my MRI and this is after rescheduling my appointments without telling me that they rescheduled my appointment when I called to make sure that they have all my records and I've told they did I even checked with the people who did my MRI. He does not even bother to check with others. He just comes up with this theory oh, it's your muscles. What will put you on a new anti-inflammatory and another injection? I said absolutely not. I've already talked to neurologist. I've already talked to other providers. this place is totally unprofessional. I don't know what happened. They used to be very good but this Dr. Shaw I'm sorry but I don't want anything to do with him. I am so frustrated and in so much pain right now. his reasoning behind my pain is oh your muscles are too tight. Your glutes are extremely tight. read more

I would not recommend this office. Each time, I waited at least 30+ minutes past my appointment time to be seen even when I came early. I spent thousands of dollars on recommended tests and they could not find anything "wrong" so I was treated like I was just making things up. They implied that I was just going there to try and get opioids, which I never asked for or even wanted.On my last visit, I had less than 5 minutes with the doctor, and he basically told me there's nothing anyone can do, and gave me a paper recommending me to watch a documentary about losing weight and said that might motivate me to be healthier. He acted like if I lost weight it would fix all my problems. I asked him why he was telling me this, as I was a normal weight when I started having extreme pain, and not being able to move around caused me to gain weight. He basically told me to just try it because he didn't have any other suggestions. I felt very blown off, and even if he couldn't help me, he could have said it in a much better way and without implying losing weight would fix all my issues. Once I went to a different practice, they did find out what was wrong with me and give me a treatment plan that actually helped. When I arrived I filled our paperwork and waited only about 10 minutes I saw Jennifer a PA at the clinic. If I could give this place a zero I would. I've been here all night. I was told at 4am that I would be discharged it's now 7am and I'm still sitting in the waiting room. They have no beds available so patients are literally sitting in the waiting room with IV's in their arm, this is cruel and very sad. I would never visit here again. read more

I'm going to assume the terse words during a one-sided conversation, not my side, that occurred today was due to the persons frustration with all this Covid stuff. I've never encountered this before. I love the doctors and nurses here and have been a loyal patient for 10+ years because they are caring professionals and great at what they do. However, you call me twice to ask if I need a prescription filled that I asked the drugstore to fill and reference names I don't recall and get all snippy with me because I don't know what you need from me. I had already spoke to someone last Thursday about this very topic but evidently a repeat call with different people was required by you. A week has gone by and no prescription refilled. Where do I begin?? I guess with DO NOT EVER SEEK TREATMENT HERE. I was stunned first at the doctor's bill rate. Then I saw that there was a second EOB with a facility charge!! I do not ever recall being hit up for a charge to lay down on the examining table. What a mess. Rex Pain Center needs new management or something. I asked my doctor to recommend another pain center, so I went to Carolina Spine in Cary and it was DAY and NIGHT difference. I actually got a spinal injection the day I met with the doctor! Did not have to wait 6 weeks and get the run around by the Rex Pain Center. RPC you are fired! I'm going to implore my doctor to stop sending patients to RPC. I think they need to feel the pain. read more

Dr. Choudry is absolutely amazing. He listens and cares. I have two severely herniated discs for which I have had two surgeries. I honestly don't know what I would do without this practice. Dr. Choudry gives the best advice and always goes for the least invasive approach. Your comfort is key and he goes above and beyond. I have never been rushed through an appointment, I am always given ample time to discuss my medical needs. I don't feel like I am being rushed so they can just get to the next. Dr.Lam was very rude and dismissive. Did trigger point injections and I felt an electrical shock go down my arm and he immediately said ' wasn't anything I did'. This was disturbing. The next day my arm was like rubber so I called his office. After several calls with his nurse ( he couldn't be bothered to speak to me) I finally said ' I'm not saying he did something wrong" at that point he said ' I may have aggravated a nerve and thing symptoms will resolve in a few day's ' I had an epidural and I felt a shock run down my back all the way to my foot and his immediate response was ' it's wasn't anything I did' .DONT SEE DR LAM HE IS GOING TO SERIOUSLY INJURE SOMEONE!!! kept acting like he injections were a cure. Was nasty about me needing more than just steriods. I'm trying to get as far away from him as possible. read more

I am delighted with both the customer service and medical treatment I received at Rex Pain Management. Dr. Chen did an excellent job completing a LESI (lumbar epidural steroid injection. After 4 months of continual pain in my buttocks and legs, I received immediate relief from the numbing medicine used to perform the injection. Then, holding my breath, I realized in the next few days that the pain in my legs and buttocks had dissipated 95%. Two weeks later, still experiencing relief. I have some lingering pain in my lower back, but that is minimal, especially compared to prior months. I am no longer taking pain medicine, or the 3 Advil every 3 hours I had been taking. Dr. Chen at Rex Pain Management simply wanted to push drugs and did not care that I had a botched surgery. She kept insisting I just tell her what drugs I wanted her to give me and that there was nothing they could do for me even though the new surgeon that sent me there specifically said what they could do for me. Dr Paul Cranes and his PA listened carefully to my complaints and history with atypical facial pain. They both possessed a great bedside manor and treated me with respect. Just because you can't see the pain doesn't mean it doesn't exist. A pain management regimen was planned and executed involving steroid injections. They approach pain management without the use of opioids. Thank goodness and luckily the injections have helped tremendously. Everyone responds differently to this approach to pain management, but it's definitely worth looking into and this pain practice is a great place to give it a try. read more

Sorry for the grammar but when you write when your hands are trembling in pain is just happens. Complete scam from the forms they demand for you to sign if you take time to read it "the contract" is there for their benefit what it basically said they own you and only their opinions matter, and you are bound to obey them no questions ask, if you disagree then they simply refuse to treat you; in my case I made sure they had all of my previous medical récords with all the findings. They proceeded to interrogate me to compare all the answers already in the documentation they received in the mean while is been 15 days without my medications; and I know is not an overnight solution I answered all of their questions honestly; gave them a lab sample for the drug test after that they said they will schedule me for another 3 weeks to which I asked what am I to do with my pains and frozen fingers get ready for this one.......both the dr and assistant said. DEAL WITH IT. simply because in their form it saids that they might not give you anything. 2 weeks and 2days later I called to confirm my appointment everything was fine; then the afternoon before my 2nd. Appointment they called me to inform me that they will cancel my appointment and refusing me CARE this is cruel and abusing punishment. Now to the best part just to get out of the house drived with my son to the free clinic and in desperation asked if I could see someone as a walk in. the doctor examined me asked my pharmacy for a print out my recent meds next thing I know I'm walking out with a partial prescription to hold me over until I can see my primary who by the way also refused to help me with my condition. You will be paying your whole life on medical bills due to these scam artists grossly overcharging, billing you twice for the same procedure etc. Even if you have good insurance like I do (my insurance has paid a fair portion of this) the problem is how much they charge. I just received a bill from services rendered in April of 2015. Yes, LAST YEAR. They charged $3000 for 7 minutes, one vile of cortisol, and use of a regular exam room. This does not even include the bill for the nurse practitioner. My insurance paid 2/3 of this, leaving me w with over $1000 out of pocket. This is just one of the many bills I have received in the past six months. So far, I have paid over $5000 out of pocket for procedures that didn't even work. I can't sit here and explain all the details but just know that these ppl are out for money. Prices are super inflated and when you call American anesthesiology and ask them to explain the charges, they are very rude and they come up with no explanation.
