It might in some areas be a little pricier, less choice but meets most basic and emergency needs - hence the 5* rating. Got an excellent cold room full of beer. Spirits are behind the cash desks. Queues can be long especially weekends - Sunday evening when everyone is arriving or coming back home is a chore. But thank you for small inconveniences.

We spent a fortune on drinks while here and next time will search for an HIT to stock up! They had loads of teas, muesli, snacks and other items and were well-stocked. The selection of yoghurts and cheese is awesome, and the butchery is pricey but meticulous. The bakery is a specialty shop in itself--high turnover and high craftsmanship mean you'll always pick up something fresh from the oven, and tasty. The checkouts, though, are what make this place throroughly and utterly Germanic. Obviously, someone has done a time-and-motion study on the process of checking-out, and determined that dividing the process into two works more efficiently. One lady will ring you up, give you a rechnung with a barcode, which you can then hand to the money-taking lady or ATM your way into the mall outside. The speed means you need to get your skates on to pack your groceries tout suite, lest you clog the check-out artery. And that, my dear friends, would create DISORDER! Tsk tsk.

Nice and big, lots of light and a great fruit and vegetable spread. The self-checkout (5 terminals) is the reason I visit this Edeka nearly every other day for groceries. If you have your act together and understand the process, you can check yourself out faster than it takes to stand in the normal checkout. Gotta love those morons that place all their items on the scale and then bag it after they pay. DRIVES ME CRAZY. Anyway - great store with a nice clean and brand new building housing it. The garage always has tons of space.

When I stay in a hotel, I like actual milk for my morning coffee and not those little packets of powder, so I popped into this Lidl and picked up a quart (technically, a liter) of low fat milk for the hotel room fridge. There were plenty of other things that looked good, but I can't bring any of it back home, so I had to walk on by. Labels on most products are only in German, though some were in English. No worries, it's easy enough to tell by the pictures. Milk containers still look like the milk containers in the US and UK, orange juice and cheese and chicken breasts all look exactly the same no matter what the language. I also picked up a bag of the most amazing delicious chocolate hazlenut wafer cookies that I am sure I will never see again. :-( Bags are not free and you have to use a €1 coin to release a trolley. They do not accept credit cards. Cash or debit cards only.

Auf mein Kommentar hat sich der Filialleiter uneinsichtig gezeigt und wollte mich überzeugen, dass die "Mitarbeiter doch alle gesund" sind und es deswegen hygienischer ist, mit Händen als mit Handschuhen zu arbeiten. Ja, das kann vielleicht theoretisch stimmen, aber erklären sie mir nicht, dass es gesünder ist, die Backwaren mit der gesamten Handfläche anzufassen, um zum Beispiel die Donuts zu verschieben. Wozu gibt es dann dieses Backpapier bei jedem Donut? Wie wäre es, einfach nur mit einem Finger das Backpapier anzufassen und den Donut zu verschieben? Diese Uneinsichtigkeit ist erschreckend, und ich will nicht wissen, welche anderen Sachen hier derart unhygienisch behandelt werden. Ich gehe nicht mehr zu Rewe - nach dieser Erfahrung.

As a result, many people jump ahead to the far cashiers while others are stuck waiting in the longer line for the cashier in front. A little more organization could alleviate a lot of confusion there.

(I'm not sure if this is the correct address.) Their breads, cookies, chocolates, and other baked goods were simply amazing. They use spelt in a lot of foods. These are true artisanal foods.
