On our last day, we stumbled across this little grocery store in the heart of Mainz and it was honestly one of the better ones we found! Like most European supermarkets it was small with winding aisles, but this one was super clean, easy to traverse, and well stocked. We took it all in and then concluded with purchasing some still water for the evening. The only reason it's four and not five stars is that like most places finding cold water was hard and it was unfortunately the same here. Totally a cultural thing, but I'd love the option for some chilled beverages.

I searched online and through Yelp for a place to get some good cheese and after Gastrovino in Amsterdam, I will admit my standard was set pretty high. The ladies at Die Fromagerie exceeded expectations. For those visiting Germany, the lady that helped me was fluent in English and was ready to recommend both a white and red wine pairing for the warm La Raclette Baguette Sandwich I ordered - I chose the white sauvignon blanc, as I want to drink red for tonight. The bread was deliciously warm and crisp on the outside with just enough give and soft dough inside, slathered with a nice mustard that brought out the flavors of the cheese really well without overpowering it. She was also able to help me order a small charcuterie box for one person to take home for the low price of €15,50! Recommend calling to order these as they are pretty busy - she asked me to put my order in and come back later to pick it up. I decided to sit inside where they have a trendy area with paintings, cushioned chairs, and warm blankets for their guests. I chose the seat closest to the window for the view of the cars passing by - I love to people watch and this was a great place to do it!

Tt's very convenient if you are staying close by and even though it's a smaller format when compared to other locations, you will most definitely find what you are looking for. Let me tell you! 1. The menu: I think I understand 1/3rd of it. Not because my German is that bad, it's because I don't speak Turkish and let me tell you. If the menu is in the "native" language of that business, me thinks it's a good sign. 2. The customers: All. Turkish. People. And I bet they know where to go for their Heimat cuisine. 3. And Yes Mr./Madam App. That Turkish Mocha was shining in my face that morning, dark and strong. It's early and in the morning a strong Joe or it's derivative is what I want. I liked Simit Sarayi the second I stepped in the door based on the decor of light wood and bright yet faded lighting. When I saw all the shiny/light brown pastries and deserts the part of my brain that knows flaky /chewy/baked goods is coming kicked in and started creating a tiny bit of a salivating and a slight involuntary grin out of my morning dullness. Now to choose, especially since these flat circle sandwiches with cheese inside just came out or one that was already sitting there. And the Schokolade brownies also looked good. I chose by appearance in texture and got a Pogaca (Hackfleisch). I think I liked the Pogaca a little more than I liked the Turkish Mocha, maybe I am too used to American/Columbian style coffee. The Turkish Mocha was a bit sour. It was bold but not as strong as in appearance or assumption. No milk, no sugar is the way I go sometimes and this is one of those cases. It came in a little cup: cappuccino style and the bottom half was the left over sand from the grind, not edible. Good in flavor and aroma (medium) but it's like a shot of sour, semi-bold, semi-hot, shot of wake-up. The Pogaca was soft but not too soft as in cake like softness, a lightly dense, chewy, a tad of airiness and seems like the right amount of butter incorporated in. And... not just food, also Tiger Balm and shots of unknown medicine darker than the earths core where the medicine was taken from and only labelled in Chinese! Catering to all Asians that need stuff from the mother land and non Asians looking for Asian stuff. The first time out of dozens of times stepping in here was simple to grab drinks (cold and room temperature), a bottle of grass jelly drink and sweet red bean drink. Hello favorite Asian supermarket in Frankfurt!…read more Another gem that is open on Sundays (seriously I sometimes go in here on a Sunday for fun just because I can), this place certainly has what you're looking for. It seems to be more Thai / Southeast Asian and Chinese focused (although lots of Japanese and Korean products are hanging around inside too), but really has everything one needs to cook and prepare and enjoyable Asian meal. It is also decently priced compared to many of the places I have been, despite being the go-to spot for many customers seeking Asian products. In here I can find several Asian fruits and vegetables, including lotus root which can be surprisingly difficult to find around Frankfurt (although I tend to only find frozen here given the day). You can also buy any of the herbs and leaves you may need to cook up a perfect Thai curry, and the herbs are always pretty fresh and well taken care of! They also have some randoms in the store like meat cleavers (I know because I purchased one here!) Quick and efficient, the customer service is pretty good and always willing to help if you're unable to locate a product in a prompt manner. Just beware that sometimes it can be slightly crowded in here and you may have to wait your turn! While Spicelands is my favorite Indian (and some Asian and African) supermarket to go to, Gutleut is my favorite for all other Asian.
