It was fantastic walking…read moreinto a place that I once thought was "Made in the USA" and knowing that this is where one of my fav stores comes from, Germany. It was sureal. There are coin operated grocery carts in a carosel outside just like here. Funny, didn't see coin carts at any other stores while shopping in any of the majory cities or small towns. I wonder if this is truely an Aldi concept. The inside looks like the the inside of any Aldi in Chicago. Boxes of groceries are stacked no different than they are here. There is a "special of the week" section and tons of alcohol! Fresh fruits and veggies, frozen and dry goods, everything seems the same as your typical Aldi. One major difference, and it's the reason for the lower rating... You can buy fresh bread from this huge bread box that has buttons for you to select your bread. That was cool but I noticed some breads that were sitting on one of the crates looked moldy. That freaked me out. Germany, like most European countries, have fresh baked bread bakeries EVERYWHERE! Hence, no need to sell "fresh bread" other than sliced for toast of buns in an Aldi. Oh well, it's a model that works for this mega-chain. They must be doing something right, I mean it was weekday morning and the place was jam packed. Oh, and if you need a pack of smokes, they have a dispenser for that too.

Furthermore it is not fare away from the trainstation which is great if you wanna get somethings before your train leaves

Absolutely shocking service! I just went to their store and even though my German is not good, I…read moreexplained to a female member of staff in German that my German is not so good. I then politely asked in German if she could tell me where the brown paper bags for recycling could be found. She rushed to where they are with a very sullen and brusque facial expression and pointed. It was though I had asked her to paint the outside of house in her spare time! When I explained that I found her brusque manner rather offensive she complained to her Manager. He was not remotely interested in receiving feedback and he started shouting at me! He claimed that he could not speak English but it soon became evident that he could. This store is near to where I live but I was already avoiding it because the general demeanour of the staff is miserable and rude. No doubt the result of poor management and working conditions! I do go to other REWE stores and they are generally much better. This one is shocking on many levels. The staff are poorly trained and it is very often short of stock in key areas! AVOID it if you can! This is my advice.
