New Farm can be a touch place to find a cheap haircut, and if that's what you're after, Orb…read moreprobably isn't the place for you. I like to go for the quality service and beautiful, airy salon, but only when I'm feeling particularly cashed up. On entry you'll be given a herbal tea and a hand towel before your appointment begins. The stylists and colourists are all pleasant and knowledgeable. My results have always been good, however the overall costs always stretches out the time between visits. One of my favourite features of Orb is the opening hours - Tuesday to Thursday open until 9pm and from 8am on Saturdays - so you'll usually be able to get an appointment at a time that suits you. A nice place for a treat, but if you're looking for something simple and cheap, try elsewhere.

Just had my first and last experience with Orb Hair. Was very excited as my husband had purchased…read morefor me a colour, treatment, cut and style package as a treat for valentine's day. Arrived early was greeted nicely and all went well until my stylist was blow drying my hair, I immediately noticed that there was an obvious line of colour difference about a centimetre from the scalp. I waited until I was sure that it wasn't just a single patch but across my head. My stylist said nothing and I eventually realised that if I also said nothing they would have let me leave without correcting it. This would have embarrassed me significantly. When I pointed the colour line out they agreed and set about fixing the issue. Unfortunately my stylist then went off and delegated my second washing and blow-dry to a junior, returning only to finish my fringe. At the end of four hours of my life I was not offered any form of apology, nor any compensation apart from the front of salon manager offering to ring me in a couple of days. When I got home my husband noticed orange dye on the back of my leg as well as dye in the opening of my ear canals as well as outer ear. Now mistakes happen and I can understand and forgive that but what really upset me was that a hair professional would have let me leave with a less than optimal result.

After having a couple of standard services and one that stuck our pretty badly, I was fortunate…read moreenough to have the business owner, Kate, contact me about my sub-par experience. She kindly extended a host of complimentary services (including one treatment which I had not originally received) to make up for the sour taste my last visit left in my mouth. My re-do services started with a separate 15 minute consultation with my stylist, Holly, to ensure we were both on the same page about exactly what I wanted and how it could be achieved. On the day of my appointment, I was warmly greeted by name, and offered several much-needed coffees. Then the magic began. Holly and I again touched base on the treatment and she re-consulted with another colourist on the best method and approach to produce my desired results. She was simultaneously completely professional and warm, and over the next 4.5 hours, she demonstrated utmost attention to her tasks and my (and my hair's) well-being. Holly is a self-proclaimed colour-fanatic, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her in particular to any of my friends looking to have a colour treatment. What really won me over was the absolutely divine hair and scalp therapy from their new rituals line of services, which consisted of a custom treatment application, scalp massage, eye pillow, warm towel, blanket, and a bit of snooze (if you can help it). In the end, I am completely pleased with how it turned out. I've finally achieved the look I been wanting for this last couple of months, and most importantly, I am impressed with the level of service I received from a 'salon of the year' award winner. Thank you Elysium team.

They make you give a $50 deposit on booking…read more My mum died and I couldn't make the appointment. Most rude receptionist. No sympathy or anything. They will not refund me the $50 deposit and all they said was "can you make Friday?" in a tone that was similar to "you are inconveniencing us". Most people would have walked away at this point but I gave them another chance. Booked it in for the Friday and the hairdresser that was going to do my hair left the salon and they were just going to pan me off any junior hairdresser working at the salon. And if that wasn't enough, in my grieving process I had the polite courtesy to call them that morning in regards to cancelling my appointment because I was caught up at work. And they ask, "can you just come to the appointment because our hairdressers cannot lose income. They rely on that back to back booked appointments because they need the money." There is bad customer service. But this is probably one of the worst I have ever experienced in a hair salon. Sometimes waiting times are weeks to get one appointment in. Not too sure why. I have been to some of the best hair salons in the world and they skill level you notice from the hairdressers are not particularly exceptional. Big thumbs down for me.

Sigh. How can such a big name in hairdressing be so consistently bad? I gave this particular Toni &…read moreGuy store three attempts before giving up. I went in for a haircut with my sister the first time. I'd printed out a photo of an earlier haircut I'd had, which I wanted replicated (hair dyed from my natural lightish colour to a medium brown, hair layered including fringe/bangs). The guy who was my hairdresser looked at the photo and said, "but this is lighter than your hair colour now." I glanced at my sister and we shared a "what is this guy on?" look, and I explained what I wanted in as much detail as possible. After failing to convey that I wanted my current, natural dark blonde hair dyed a medium brown for some unknown reason, I decided to skip the colour. No one likes getting a wild haircut they didn't plan for. But the opposite is a little disappointing, too. The guy shied away from giving me much in the way of layers, and he went for a light, feathered fringe. I re-explained I wanted it layered as a side-fringe. Somehow, he failed to grasp it and I left the salon with not an awful haircut, but not anywhere near the one I wanted. The next week I visited again, deciding the salon must be famous and seemingly respected for a reason, but this time making sure I got a different hairdresser. She wasn't the communicative type and seemed abrupt. I explained to her what I wanted (a colour - I wasn't quite ready yet to try the cut again, even with a different hairdresser) and she seemed to understand what I wanted. Then another hairdresser showed up and she explained it to her, and suddenly I had a different hairdresser. (They seem to do this rotating hairdresser thing a lot.) She seemed distracted, which didn't bode well. She put the colour in my hair while I read a magazine and then took me to the tubs for "twenty minutes or so". I'm looking at the big clock at the wall as time creeps on and hits half an hour, and I'm making attempts to get her attention when she walks past - to no avail. I even wondered if she was pretending to ignore me. When she finally came to rinse the stuff out, I had been at the tubs for 45 minutes and my hair came out black. The third time was about six months later and my "final shot". I tried to get a more senior hairdresser, and she gave me a decent haircut and colour. It was still nothing like what I wanted in terms of style (she didn't properly cut my fringe to the side and kept it way too long) but at least it wasn't a total disaster. Still, there's no way I'm going back to experience sub-par service at a salon not renowned for its cheap prices.

The counter was unattended but eventually a lady returned in a flap having ducked out to buy a father's day card for hubby, quickly explaining it was not for her father "who was in heaven" (bit of a downer to our happy mood). She fluffed around working out when they were available and finally told us to come back in half an hour. We quickly ate some lunch and rushed back only to be left sitting around for another 30 minutes waiting to be attended to. The same front counter lady (think she must have been the owner or manager) came over and loudly and repeatedly exclaimed how dry and terrible my hair was, in front of everyone. She said our appointments would cost $69. I said we just wanted a trim, our hair was already washed that morning and we did not need a blow dry. She said she had to wash my hair because it was so terrible and DRY that was the only way the hairdresser could see how to get an even cut and that the blow dry came with every haircut. We should have walked out then and there but she must have seen my daughter and I exchange bemused glances because she said she'd throw in a free conditioning treatment because after all I really needed it! We waited a bit longer and with people going everywhere she directed the girls to wash our hair and then whilst we were at the basins getting our 2 minute treatment she came over and berated them for not having us have the treatment in the chairs because they were busy and there's always a reason for what she says girls! I'm not exactly sure what the girls had done wrong and neither were they but her tone was belittling and made me feel small...and I was just the customer. The hairdresser who cut my hair was friendly and I think she did an okay job (but after all my hair is terrible so what would I know) however that haircut was the quickest I had ever had and took about 5 minutes tops. Then she got someone else to blow dry my hair while she cut my daughter's who had to remind her that she had forgotten to cut her fringe. Will not be going here ever again but my daughter and I did get a laugh about what a horrible experience all around it was - one we won't soon forget!

Love this hairdresser! I have been this one in the city, the valley (now closed) and Chermside…read more If your like most women, you probably dread the hairdressers. Will they stuff up my hair? Will it be too short? Will my hair fall out/break? However I always feel safe giving my hair to the staff at Oscar Oscar. They all have years experience at one of the best salons in Australia. Perfect haircuts. Every time. They give you a beautiful head massage with cuts, and if you get colour, also a hand massage. I have been coming here since I was a teen. Beautiful, clean, modern salon. Two levels, large mirrors, the lighting isn't that flattering but they need to see your hair colour properly. Never had a bad experience. The basins are fairly comfy for basins. I like the chairs they have at the mirrors - comfy. Though your butt can get numb if you're there for a colour and cut and have long hair but that's to be expected. With plenty of mags, and an assortment of beverages and biscuits. Now lets not tip toe around the mulberry bush - this is a very expensive salon. Haircuts start at $100 for women and $80 for men - and this is for a stylist. Yes, as you go up experience the price increases all the way to a master stylist at $140 for women and $120 for men. The only thing that does get my goat is when you pay over $100 for a a haircut and the hairdresser doesn't blow-dry or straighten/curl it, an apprentice does. They do a good job, but still. They use Adveda products that smell amazing. Soft product push - just tell them you have enough at home or a no thanks. The staff are mostly friendly, though some aloof and might I say stuck up. That doesn't really matter to me though. A perfect haircut with clean lines, no mistakes and beautifully blended foils.

I said I wanted to go blonde but didn't want to fry my hair TOO much. Her response to this was that all bleach treatments are damaging and instead gave me some highlights? Which wasn't what I want. It additionally took RIDICULOUSLY long to get it done. I was waiting almost 5-6 hours for the whole thing I reckon. Then their Eftpos machine wasn't working with my card so they took down my details and proceeded to call me everyday to hassle me about the money like I was some sort of criminal? I eventually got the money to them but not without significant stress on my behalf! You'll never see me there again, that's all I know.
