After my first experience at Revocycle I am excited to go back! Michael was there to help this newbie set up her bike, and truly made sure I was set up correctly for the class while providing education on how the bike worked and how it was different than your typical spin bike. Having done many a spin class I thought I would be good to go but boy was I wrong! This class kicks your butt. It is definitely a learning curve getting on this type of bike but everyone is welcoming and understanding of your struggle. Note: If using apple maps to get to the studio it will take you to the Bank of America which on the right block, just on the wrong side of the building. I decided to take a spin class at Revocycle while I was traveling through Portland, and I am so glad I did! The owner Michael is extremely helpful and accommodating. It was a super professional, clean environment. I was a little nervous at first because I haven't taken a class in quite a while, but the teacher was very understanding and I never felt pressured to go past my limits. BEST SPIN Class EVER! I don't think I can say it any louder, or I would. I've been spinning for the last 3 1/2 years. I've been to many locations, endured many instructors, but NEVER have I experienced anything like REVOCYCLE. The instructors incorporate this amazing idea of mind and body exercise that takes your ordinary exercise and elevates it to a totally new level. This mindfulness leaves you refreshed, energized and ready to go! Never have I had an experience like this one. NEVER. I pedal to the beat and I have been searching for a studio that uses this as a focal point in the class. The philosophy is the same, instructor to instructor, so no matter when you come in, you're going to get the same great workout. The studio is clean, the people are genuinely nice, the bikes work properly and are fitted to you. The room is kept cool with the A/C turned ON and a large fan which helps to circulate the air. The sound system is great and I haven't heard a song that I didn't like yet! I've seen many types of people in here, from beginners on up and everyone is treated with respect. The staff and instructors encourage everyone equally. The atmosphere is not intimidating at all. If you want a great workout, this is the place, even if you're not a cyclist! read more

This spin studio is fantastic. I popped in for a class while traveling in Portland, and I was not disappointed. The equipment is top-of-the-line, and the instruction is dynamite, with excellent attention to form, pacing, technique ... all the important stuff! I've been here twice. The studio is on the small side. The staff is very rude. If you are even 1 minute late they will charge you for the class and not let you in. The workout is not very good for a cycle studio. It does not compare to spark cycle or soul cycle. read more

Revocycle has been truly transformative for me. I used to think I "wasn't a spinning person". Every spinning classes I ever went to in the past seemed to be either really boring or overly hyped up with instructors screaming at you through loud music while you bounced around like crazy on your bike. Then I went to RevoCycle... From the moment I stepped through the door, Michael & his team were soooooooo welcoming and inviting. They explained to me the power of freewheel bikes (hint: you get the most amazing thigh/glut workout), showed me how to set my bike up, and just made me feel really at home. (And the physical space is beautifully appointed, fresh and uplifting w/ state of the art equipment) Then class began - wow, it was like attending a yoga class on a bike... it's hard for me to put it into words... but the gentle mind/body nature of the way in which the classes are taught got me to push myself WAY harder than I ever have in a group exercise class. I'm now addicted (seriously, have to go at least 3x a week or I get really cranky :). I get the most amazing cardio workout, it gets my gaba flowing (for anyone who has ever struggled with depression or anxiety, this workout is better than meds - I promise you!), and I love the way the class just seems to fly buy in minutes because you are having so much fun. This truly is unlike any other cycling class --- it's an innovative & integrative mind/body approach. And because the instructors use "effort" & RPMs -- how fast you are pedaling (vs numbers on a dial) to indicate the various levels of intensity to strive for - it is shockingly welcoming to someone who is just getting started working out -- and at the same time to someone who is an elite athlete... truly, the class gives a great workout to that wide range of fitness levels, and all are made to feel welcome. If you're used to Soul Cycle or Burn Cycle (or most spin classes for that matter), you'll have a definite learning curve at Revocycle. They use a different style of bike that more accurately mirrors the workout you'd get on an outdoor bike. Expect your legs to be tired and to be truly challenged! My entire experience at Revocycle was, from start to finish, five stars. My instructor inquired into my previous experience with indoor and outdoor cycling and was very encouraging when I indicated I have very little. He spent much time fitting me to my bike and explaining how it works. He even had me pedal before class, so he could help me with form. During class, I appreciated his calm, thoughtful, and encouraging demeanor. He gave suggestions on form and pacing during class, so that we could correct as we switched up speeds and resistance. The music was a fun and refreshing change of pace, spanning 70's to current, and I got a terrific workout on their bikes. I also really appreciated that we were not doing crunches or spinning hand weights around while pedaling - this is, in my opinion, hokey and meant to make you think you're getting a better workout, but even worse, it's completely unsafe. Revocycle is the complete opposite. My instructor was so knowledgeable on what is and is not safe for your body, via a conversation after class. It was clear Revocycle's goals are altruistic and client-centered, and the brand itself is top notch. read more

I can't say enough awesome things about this place. I've taken spin classes before, so I knew what I should expect, but this place was different- in a great way! On my first day, I was welcomed by Michael, who was very helpful in making sure I felt comfortable on my bike and took the time to explain how everything works. The classes are all slightly different from each other, which I think is great because you get a good mix of music and instructors to keep things interesting. I've been to 4 classes so far and already feel a difference in my body. The music is great- it isn't too specific to any type of person. So if you're only into fist pumping techno house music-probably not your thing. The instructors are very vocal and helpful without being overbearing. They definitely know what they're doing. In response to other negative comments about the bikes- Yes, the bikes are different- so they take a bit getting used to, but after my third class, I got the hang of it and it feels great. If you don't want to challenge yourself and try something new and exciting, then this probably isn't for you.. ;) HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who wants a great workout! read more

I took a few introduction classes at Revocycle recently. A great experience all in all. Michael is fabulous and gets you set up and ready very efficiently...he actually TAKES THE TIME to adjust the bike, explain about the classes, and make sure you'll have the best experience. I'd say it takes about 3 classes to really get into the groove and start feeling the effects of this yoga-inspired spinning class. I'll take some more classes as soon as my schedule allows. Would give zero stars if I could. I love cycling and this is not a cycling class. Not a real spinning bike- pretty much they hacked off the front wheel of a street bike and called it gravy. Literally 3 people in the class. Music was horrible. Not motivating at all when the instructor is huffing and puffing. Didn't talk about form at all or their little computer thing until after the class was done. Waste of time and now I still have to go to the gym. Thank god it was free for the first one or I would have demanded a refund. Don't waste your time this place is stupid read more

I've been spinning/cycling for years. I'd give ZERO stars if I could. 4 people in the class. Boring music. The music even turned off during the class. What a mess. It was a different kind of bike than I was used to. Before the class, the guy fitted me on the bike, but during the class pedaling was super clunky. Never experienced that before and after the class, the girl who instructed said the bike should have been positioned differently. Absolutely uninspiring and waste of time. I'm relatively new to spinning and moved to Portland from New York where Soul Cycle is such a fad. This is the ANTI-FAD spin class. Thoughtful, educated beginner instruction session from Michael the owner led me to sign up for a series of classes (but you can pretty much just walk into a class most days). The place is super clean, has an amazing sound system, really great state-of-the-art bikes that are designed so as they don't impact your knees etc. Got a great workout that managed to bring in elements of mindfulness and left feeling more than ready for the day. I can't believe this place has not got a line out the door (which it would in New York) but I'm happy to be able to go when I want! Whether you are new to spinning or a cycling expert, this is a great, great place to go. read more

I started Revcycle about three months ago. I had been to a few spin classes before, but always walked away with a neck/back ache. My form was terrible and no one bothered to help me correct it. I started seeing a physical therapist and was asking her what activities I can do to promote a healthy back/neck/core/posture and over all wellness. She highly suggest Revoycle. On my first day of class, the owner Michael and the spin instructor took 15-20 minutes to set me up on my bike and explain to me how to properly use the bikes. I am one of those people that like to ask questions and to make sure I am doing things correctly. Michael and the instructors were always wiling to stay after or meet with me early to make sure I was comfortable and doing things properly. In fact, just the other day one of the instructors stayed back an extra 20 minutes to talk to me about my form/posture. They are incredible and I have not found this experience at any other cycle gym/class. Michael and his staff are a class act team that goes above and beyond in many ways. They genuinely care and it shows. I really enjoyed my first session. However, it got better and better each time I went. After each week of class, I feel like I am getting stronger and stronger. I can't explain to you the feeling of empowerment and strength I feel after each class I take, both physically, emotionally and mentally. It's been a life changer for me. The class runs about 50 minutes with a cool down. I have had been through about 4 or 5 instructors, and each are great. I really enjoy the music that they play, and I like that it is at a level that doesn't give me a headache. The instructors motivate without yelling. It's a peaceful workout and an awesome sweat. I go twice a week, sometimes three. It's pretty awesome. I run on my other days. The combo has been perfect. I used to run too much before and it was taking it's toll on my body. I love the balance I have now. As I mentioned before, with each class I feel like I get challenged and I learn more and more. It helps strengthen all the parts of my body that I am wanting.....the core, the gluten, the hams, the quads, the back. I am grateful to my therapist for sending me to this place. I am one that makes my health a priority. I seek both mind/body wellness and really want to age well so I can continue to be active and healthy. Revoycle has been awesome for me and has changed my life. It will continue to be part of my wellness plan. My experience with this company has been nothing short of amazing. I love it. read more

I got into spin through classes at BurnCycle and decided to try other places around town to see which I prefer. I appreciated the two free classes offered at Revocycle, but unfortunately didn't feel compelled to go back for the second. There's nothing particularly wrong with the workout, but the energy wasn't there for me. The music was lowkey - not upbeat - and the general atmosphere of the group wasn't necessarily fun or focused. During the ride others in the room were yawning and just kind of looking around. When I work out I'm looking for something high energy and calorie burning, and just didn't feel this was it. This would be a great workout for someone looking to just 'zone out' for an hour. read more

Michael and his team are amazing. He was open, honest, and welcoming. The cycling equipment is top notch, and having the freewheel ( same as most ordinary outdoor bikes ) is so much better than the knee breaking fixed wheel cycles you'll find in most spinning classes. Music was on point, not too loud but enough to keep everyone from hearing your grunts as you push yourself to the limit. The cycles include a cycling computer that gives great feedback to hold yourself accountable and work on learning how to use the Perceived Exertion scale that the instructors use to encourage you as you work. If you want to get out of the rain and spin, I can't say enough good things about Revocycle. read more

When I first moved to Portland & started asking around about cycling studios, Revocycle was recommended to me by a triathlete as the most realistic indoor cycling workout in the city. A tall order to fill, but this place delivers! Expect to get greeted warmly & helped with your bike set-up - no intimidation here; everyone's treated with respect and fitted for proper form. Know going in that the bikes themselves may take some getting used to (i.e. for the first few workouts, you'll want to play with the resistance until you figure out how to best dial it in for yourself), but after that...well, there's no going back to regular "spin" bikes! These give you a more honest workout by ensuring you're working along the full pedal stroke, versus using a heavy wheel that just takes your legs along for the ride. I can vouch for the efficacy, too - when I got injured this past fall during marathon training, I relied on Revocycle classes as my non-impact form of exercise. Not only did cycling here allow me to maintain my cardiovascular fitness during those 5 weeks off the roads, but I was also delighted by the added side effect of being road-ready for my bike. Workouts are tough, yet thoughtful, and instructors take a mindful approach to teaching, which I appreciate. An added bonus is that there's a wonderful coffee shop across the street, so you can pop over to Sisters for some caffeine post-class. Pretty much the perfect way to start your day! read more

I travel to Portland from time to time and tried Revocycle. Very nice studio, super friendly. The classes are geared to engage rather than distract you. This is not one of the common deafening-music-screaming-silly-instructor type classes. They spend careful time setting up your bike and explaining the workout. Great workout. would be good for people new to indoor cycling or for experienced cyclists or frequent spin class fans. read more

My wife and I were introduced to Revocycle 3 years ago so we could get in shape for a cycling trip in Croatia. We were pretty inexperienced road bikers but were hooked on the unique approach at Revocycle where you do all of the work without extra boost from the bike (you have to pedal to work, the wheels won't spin on their own.) Well it did the trick as after 3 months of classes we went to Croatia and rocked it. But that was just the start. After 3 years we have learned so much about proper form, technique on the bike, and the importance of mind-body connection. It took me a bit longer on the mind part but I have learned so much about the mental side that when I'm out on long torturous rides I perform so much better because I have a disciplined "mind"approach. So if you want a great workout you should give Revocycle a try. If you want to take your road biking to a whole different level you "have to" experience the Revo way. read more

I am an experienced road cyclist and learned to spin about 17 years ago at the original Johnny G studio in Los Angeles. I was in Portland this past weekend (November, 2014) and wanted to spin while there so I checked this place out. Really a great studio! Great free wheel spin bikes with on board computers; great sound system; towels; clean and neat and the teachers were quite good. I loved the atmosphere.
