I'm sure it may have been a four star had I been able to partake in the climb & visit the station museum. Make sure to visit on a day Thursday through Sunday when they are open until 10am-4pm ( 12pm-4pm on Sundays). Mon-Wednesday they are CLOSED. Open May through October. I was aware of the hours, however unfortunately unseen circumstances prevented us from visiting during their opening days. Rather than not see the lighthouse at all, we stopped by the day before we left. They have a placard with some brief history of the lighthouse. A few feet away is the light keeper's house/station museum which is free or a $5 donation. To climb the 72 steps in the lighthouse there is a $10 fee 12yrs and up; $5 for those 8yrs old-12yrs old. It is weather dependent so be sure to call ahead. Those 8yrs old & under are not allowed to climb. Plan accordingly. It is said on a clear day you can see the Chicago skyline from the tower. Simmons Island Park/Beach is right next to it, so you can add that to your itinerary to maximize on time. I'm not sure if they still are doing this, but it was on their website that you can pay to light the lighthouse in the evening to celebrate a birthday, anniversary etc or in memory of someone. I was planning on doing it for my in-laws' anniversary but I wasn't sure they were going to even go by the lighthouse to see it & I also never heard back from the organization when I sent an email inquiring. There is a small flower garden around the back perimeter behind the lighthouse with a few birdhouses in the trees to check out.

We climbed to the top of this 55-foot lighthouse and learned details of the history from the highly intelligent, knowledgeable, and personable tour guide, who also built some of the ship models in the museum. Conversing with him about history and music (since we are also musicians) was the highlight of our day! We also had a delicious lunch across the street at the Yacht Club restaurant, which is open to the public.

Cindy the event coordinator that started in January 2016 was great! We were disappointed that one of our vendors told us about the staff change at the Kemper Center and that Allison was no longer there as of November 2015. As the bride, I did not hear directly from anyone at the Kemper Center about the staff change. As a professional courtesy, at the very least they would reach out to their clients that have events booked when there is a staff change, but they didn't. Lucky for the "powers that be" Cindy is wonderful and wow'd us! She is super friendly and knowledgeable about weddings and events and all around great to work with. From the first phone call to the goodbye hug at 11:45pm on the night of our reception Cindy was so helpful, professional, accommodating and amazing. She went above and beyond with helping us with the plans for our reception. Cindy explained everything and made sure we understood all our options for drinks and liquor services. The day/night of the event the entire staff was incredible and the venue was clean and perfectly set up! The staff was super efficient and effective! The AC was cranking out and everyone had an amazing time!! The entire staff at the Kemper Center was amazing as well. James was particularly helpful and definitely provided extraordinary customer service at the reception. He went above and beyond in terms of service and all around was simply great! The grounds were lovely and it was a picture perfect day to take lots of photos. We loved every moment. The only slight disappointment was the fountain was not on so we didn't take any pictures around it otherwise it was a splendid day that we will cherish for many years to come!!!

When it came to the event the hosts were extremely kind and so helpful when needed. They are quite pricey, but worth it. They were accommodating when and where possible. This lovely red tower stands on the north pier of Kenosha harbor. It is not easily accessible from…read morethe Harbor Park but you can sure get some amazing photographs. I woke up early (the benefit of still living on Eastern Time) and arrived at the harbor as the sun was just starting to come up. That meant I got the sunrise over Lake Michigan and an undisturbed view of the lighthouse. This 50 foot tall structure was built in 1906, was deemed as excess by the Coast Guard in 2008 and is now an artist studio under private ownership. I specifically chose this property because of its proximity to the starting line of a race I was traveling for. With such short notice, there were no comparable options left nearby, and I ultimately had to cancel the trip altogether. While my money was refunded, there was no apology, no explanation, and no effort to offer any accommodation or alternative solution. Canceling a confirmed reservation at the last minute can seriously disrupt travel plans, and that's exactly what happened here. Very disappointing experience.

On the lower level are a children's play area (big rug, toys, books, small tables and chairs); several display cases containing small fossils; and three large windows looking into the paleontology lab. During our visit, there was a triceratops skull in two large pieces laid out on the lab table closest to the windows. Very cool!

Kapsa Monument Co did a beautiful monument for me and my late husband a few years ago and placed it…read morein a Hillside cemetery. The monument has a vase on each side. Recently one of the vases has become loose. I've tried to reach out to Kapsa a few times. No one ever answers the phone. I've left 3 messages in over a week and half stating my issue and asked for the favor of a reply. I've yet to hear back from Kapsa. This monument wasn't cheap. I've reached out to two other monument companies in the area in the meantime and they are willing to help but say Kapsa should stand behind their business and take care of this. If they can or can't, either way the courtesy of a reply is expected for such an expensive monument. I can't rate them good in the service area as they are non responsive.

Buyer beware. This place is absolutely awful. They will screw you on the contract and they are very…read moredisrespectful. They will intentionally and purposely omit IMPORTANT and KEY things from the contract, and this can screw you in the end. When I caught these items, owner refused to correct them. Here they are: 1.) They verbally said that ALL inscriptions and design are included in the price, but when you get the contract it does not say this, and when you ask the owner to add, he refuses. Don't ever sign the contract unless they clearly write in text that ALL inscriptions and design are included in the headstone price, just like they verbally say. 2.) Draft of the drawing, design, and inscriptions was not attached. How else will you know what the heck you are getting?!?!? Don't accept without this! 3.) Full names of the deceased were omitted. This contract is also combined into the application for the cemetery. Are we just trying to get the cemetery office to guess? 4.) Memorialist didn't sign the cemetery contract on the back, which is required before you can even place any headstone in the cemetery. The cemetery has its own rules which we all have to agree to. We don't own the cemetery. These are all normal procedures for all cemeteries. 5.) Approximate date of delivery was missing. You can't just put a season like spring or summer. The owner was very disrespectful. When trying to resolve this in a calm manner, he talked over me. I tried talking to the owner nicely on the phone, but all he did was hang up on me. Avoid this business, and go to others in the area that will: actually put in writing what they say verbally, are willing to actually fill out a contract completely, and treat you with respect. After all, if you are paying them thousands of dollars for a headstone, I would think that you would at least have the above taken care of. This place is absolutely awful. STAY AWAY.

It was pretty darn busy on a beautiful summer day when we visited and I was happy there was a picnic shelter with tables and restrooms nearby. Yes, there was a couple teenagers playing a bit rough, however it is summer break and that is to be expected. Many more kids and toddlers and a friendly environment when we visited!!! Honestly I can't believe this is even a free attraction, such an amazing value for what they offer here!!!
