It was clear what services we needed and at what cost. The facility is very nice. They even have a room with a large TV to entertain young ones. The space can hold quite a few people for a service, and they have side rooms they can open up for even more space. The flowers we received that were purchased directly from the funeral home were very nice and stayed fresh for several days. The air conditioner did interfere with the sound system a bit, but it was simple to turn it off temporarily and it was already nice and cool anyway. Trying to think clearly during a time like this is very difficult. I had remembered when my grandparents passed away that Shaw Davis was used and I heard how great, easy to deal with and how affordable it was compared to other funeral homes in town. We choose Shaw Davis and we could it have been happier with our decision. The staff was very professional, polite and compassionate. They have packages that can be purchased which makes it super easy. However we had a very unique situation and they tailored a package to our needs. The total package was excellently priced. The viewing and service went really well. The room was very spacious and allowed for a lot of people, we also used the overflow rooms. The bathrooms were very nice, clean and also had a baby changing table. There was coffee and water for the guests. There was also a large room with a tv where little ones could hang out and play. The graveside service was perfect. There was 2 staff members that were on site to help with any needs and make sure everything was moving as planned. A burial out of town was fairly complicated even without a funeral service, expensive too. Did she want me to regularly visit her, bring her flowers and balloons and gossip with her? Or did she want to go back to her and mine beloved Pittsburgh? But like so many, she was convinced she would live forever and avoided the conversation. Hubby and I chose Glen Rest. Our other option, Forest Lawn, by 270 and Broad St was noisy, hard to get into (even dangerous) and they kept pushing to get us to buy multiple plots. Forest Lawn's hard sale was a turnoff. I crossed them off the list. Glen Rest understood the sadness of selecting a gravesite and took us to see several graves when I described what I wanted. I wanted a pretty one, near the trees where Mom could watch the birds. It is a beautifully manicured cemetery. I could buy a marker from them or go elsewhere. I am still torn. I wish she was home in Pittsburgh but I am glad that I can visit her here as often as I like. I notice that there are areas for babies. And areas for those who are cremated. Glen Rest made a sad decision tolerable.

The funeral home was in charge of the funeral service and cremation. A horrific list of items was either not done or done incorrectly. 1. The viewing started late because the staff had not set up the room in time. 2. We had asked to have my mom's hair braided. They failed to braid her hair. My daughter had to do it. 3. The tribute video playing when loved ones entered the room to see her was a tribute video of someone other than my mother. They had to hurriedly switch it out. 4. We were told we could stream music over Bluetooth speakers. When we were ready to play her favorite songs we were informed they didn't have a Bluetooth speaker that day. We were forced to have a family member retrieve one. 5. We requested several locks of hair to be preserved because she was being cremated. This was not done before her cremation. They are lost forever. 6. We requested finger nail clippings be kept in order to preserve her DNA. This was not done before her cremation. Her DNA is lost forever. I do not recommend this funeral service for anyone. Their prices are low, but there's a reason for it. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and go someplace else. At this point, I don't even trust that the ashes I received are those of my mother. That doubt will be stuck with me for the rest of my life. It's not worth the couple of thousand dollars we saved.
