I'm pretty sure divine wrath would befall me if I gave anything less than five stars to my own…read morechurch, but fortunately for me, Metropolitan deserves the Yelp superlatives - and, of course, far more. It's an engaging, welcoming, open, progressive place actively committed to social justice, with room for everyone to get involved or just enjoy fellowship. Its pastor, Charlie Parker, leads with just the right combination of intellect, warmth, and humor - in his sermons and in person - while choir director Bruce Caviness brings jaw-dropping talent to the music program. (Best Easter-Day Widor's Toccata in the city?? I THINK SO.) As the national Methodist church, it was the regular place of worship for presidents Grant and McKinley. (Both of them attended in the old building, which was near the center of the city, but don't worry: the "new" one - finished in 1932 - is still one of the city's most beautiful.) Don't let the fact that Boy Scout Troop 666 meets in the basement fool you (666! Seriously! In a church basement!) - this place does God's good work, and I'm so glad to have grown up in its shadow.

Sacred Arias II Concert The entire program was conceived of,…read moreproduced, and performed by B. Jackson Caesar, tenor, who invited a few of DC's best musicians to work with him. Starting with narration by Erik Dellums, Jackson gave us music to enjour and an evening to remember. Everyone left with a smile, likely resulted from the soaring & beautifully sung notes at the top of the tenor range, the forceful and joyous sound of Patrick Lundy & the Ministers of Music, and the Symphonic Orchestra providing musical depth and lovely sounds to supplement the organ, played by Evelyn Curention, and the piano, played by Alma Sanford. The church is a lovely structure that accommodated hearing every part of the music from every seat. The minister, Charles Parker, was delightful and brief. Jackson, who sings at this church regularly, proved a star in every aspect and I can't wait for Sacred Arias III! Congratulations on this well-attended and well-received program!

The church is true to it's name of being international. The congregation is made up of peoples from many nations and serves Jesus Christ as one church. The service runs from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, then is followed by fellowshi[p time with a light lunch catered by the church's small groups. Washington International Church belongs to the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA). http://www.cmalliance.org

Thankfully, a friend's son told me about WIC and it has been a blessing. It has a small congregation, about 80 people, but very close, warm and welcoming. The music is good, the preaching/teaching is outstanding, and there's a great mix of age groups, bringing together both life-long Christians and new believers. Getting to the church is easier now that I have a car, but the bus drops you only two blocks away on Wisconsin. Definitely worth checking out if you are new to town or looking for a place to renew you faith.

I attend the 11 AM service which is beautiful and very meaningful to me. It is my favorite church for all the aspects of w worship it offers.

OK, it's weird to write a review of a church. But I sure wish there'd been reviews of churches…read morewhen I was church shopping. Would have saved me loads of time and wrong turns. St. Columba's is an extremely welcoming, inclusive, open church. Holy moley, it's big! But it's not a mega church, or even close. It's a fairly liberal episcopalian church with an intellectual edge. But you don't need to be episcopalian, or subscribe to any particular beliefs, or be of any race, color, creed or sexual orientation, in order to participate fully here. If you like traditional services with all the trappings, this is the place. If you have kids and want a pared-down service that's strictly for kids, this is also the place. (There are tons of young families, but also plenty of singles, so you won't feel like a fish out of water if you go.) Probably the major draw for most people at St. C's is the music, which is truly phenomenal and professional quality. Chose from among a zillion choirs: boys choir, girls choir, boys and girls choir, adult choir, instrumental ensembles, several bell choirs (yours truly belongs to one of them), music theory classes, and more. The sermons are generally engaging and intellectual, two non-negotiables for me. Outside speakers are regularly brought in to discuss a wide range of issues. This past Sunday, the "Newshour"'s Ray Suarez (a member) discussed his new book, "The Holy Vote." There are tons of outreach programs, so you can feed the homeless, save the planet, mentor disadvantaged kids--name it and claim it. St. C's can be daunting to the uninitiated, but as with most things in life, you need to take the first step and join a group if you want to meet people or learn a new skill. Oh, and they have a rockin' playground.

I kinda feel wrong, you know, reviewing a church. But I figure - how else does one find churches…read moreif they aren't reviewed....so... I attended American University and this is one of the 3 churches within walking distance of the main campus, so I attended it for 3 years. I have to admit, I spent much of service daydreaming about how pretty my wedding would be in that sanctuary - though in reality a wedding would be better in the small chapel where they have special prayers after main service. Both are gorgeous, as are the rest of church grounds. It would be a BEAUTIFUL site for a wedding But note: either the bride or the groom must be a member of NPC and you have to go through marriage counseling to have your wedding here. After spending all of my life in a (black) Baptist church, I was always surprised by how quick service was. But they pack a lot into that hour and 5 minutes. There's a lot of the singing and pomp and circumstance of a Catholic service. And usually a good sermon - though the interim pastor they had from 2002-2003 was more dynamic (in my opinion) than the one originally selected. The rest of the ministers are quite nice. In fact, one of them remembered me in spite of the fact that I didn't attend regularly and only met him twice. They have several opportunities to be involved in ministries and clubs and organizations and lots of sunday school classes of different topics and for different audiences. What I liked most about this church, though, are the people. If you drove through the parking lot, you know that this is part of the creme de la creme of Washington, DC. In fact, I met Condoleeza Rice and Bill Frist here. There are definitely other major and minor dignitaries who are members here, not too mention just run of the mill upper middle class Washingtonians. Just look at the "Friendship Book" when it passes you during service and you'll see top notch addresses in Georgetown, McLean,Potomac, Chevy Chase, etc. However, everyone is super friendly - or fake - but generally nice. Never once did I leave church without having a pretty pleasant conversation with my pewmates and the few times I went downstairs for fellowship (or Coffee and Conversation, as they called it), I met nice people as well.

The church had a multi million dollar renovation , but no one on the building committee considered…read moreadding covered, safe bicycle parking, especialy at night for choir practice . We have two regular bicyclists. we'd have more if the church added more bicycle parking and not just a stand alone pole, out in the rain. Also more interest in people who do not have access to cars. A tour was planned at Arlington Cemetery, but no offers to pick up people from the church. The church is easily accessible to public transportation: the Red Line stop at Tenleytown and the 31 series busses that sopt at Wisconsin Ave.
