I also was not yet 100% sold on paying for a Christian education. She did a year of Montessori preschool and two years at a homeschool hybrid. This process of exploration over three years helped me gain clarity on what we want to prioritize in our children's education. It ultimately led us back to SCS, with grateful hearts. She returned to SCS as a first grader this past school year and I was completely blown away. I'll touch on three areas of 'insider insight' that I couldn't have known about until we were part of the school: community, discipleship and spiritual maturity. Community Community is of utmost importance to me, especially coming from a small, tightly-knit homeschool community at our previous school. SCS not only met, but exceeded my expectations for a parent community. I immediately felt plugged in and connected to the parent community just by jumping into a few of the many opportunities for parent involvement like Parents in Prayer, Mom's Time Out, Women's Bible Study, Room Parent and Volunteer XC / Track Coach. Raising our children in a community of like-minded, trustworthy, faithful and believing families is high on our priority list and brings so much peace of mind. I have connected with and really love and enjoy, not just a handful of families, but SO many families at SCS! Discipleship We truly felt that our daughter's teacher and all of her 'specials' teachers (PE, Music, Art & Library) partnered with us in training her up in the ways she should go. A biblical worldview and curriculum is woven throughout all subjects. As such, we have a consistency of discipleship from home, to church, to school. Spiritual Maturity Growing in my own spiritual maturity over the past three years and critically thinking about what I want our kids to take away from their education convinced me of the importance of investing in a Christian education, including any sacrifice necessary to make that happen. This first year back at SCS only affirmed and solidified that decision for me. I recently attended the last chapel of the year which featured two graduating eighth grade speakers. I was moved to tears by the spiritual maturity of these two young ladies. The spiritual fruit of a Christian education was evident in their words. I left challenged, moved, and hopeful for my own young children's experience. My own daughter demonstrated so much spiritual growth this past year too. From the conversations we had, to the Bible stories she recounted to me, to the songs, pledges and other things she memorized - her little heart was captured. The culmination being when she gave her heart to Jesus toward the end of the year. Her teacher emailed my husband and I to share the good news and I just cried and praised God. Our daughter's first grade teacher and SCS are forever a part of our family's eternal story and we are beyond grateful. This school is educating for eternity and, as a parent, I can think of nothing more valuable.

Here is a moral compass for the present and future. I attended private school St. Mary's Academy…read morestarting in 1963 then into 1969. Awhile back I stopped by for a visit after we took Amtrak to Denver to visit cousins. A welcome respite and all CDC rules were followed during my visit. Filtered through the lens of nostalgia, I remember St. Mary's Academy enjoyably for I found it to be a caring, diverse and inclusive school with inspiring teachers in a culture of mentorship that fostered voice and helped forge pathways for all. I enjoyed and took pride in wearing the school uniform. I learned how to think and problem solve, confident in my potential, vested in responsibility to social justice and the health of humankind and the environment, and prepared for possibilities of an ever-changing world. I attended with girls of all races, religious traditions and economic backgrounds. I was taught how to think rather than what to think. Teaching strategies and curriculum challenged me to problem solve, collaborate and innovate -which provided the foundation for my fellow students and I to be powerful agents of change. "You can't help when or what you were born, you may not be able to help how you die; but you can - and you should - try to pass the days between as a good man." That was written by Corporal Anton Myrer, US Marine Corps Veteran, WWII, wounded at Guam, who died of leukemia most likely Service-connected, in his best-selling and US Army War College required reading novel Once an Eagle, which was later adapted to a tv miniseries. The book is on the Marine Corps commandants' reading list and West Point Cadets are assigned the book in classes and seminars. He is best-selling author of The Last Convertible, an exquisite and sensitive novel of The Greatest Generation that was also adapted into a tv miniseries. I mention Anton Myrer's quote about "good" because I am confident in the future when I see that schools like St. Mary's Academy are still educating youth. I am confident because here, youth are taught to be good people. My most recent visit I learned something I was surprised I hadn't realized before. I learned that the Board of Trustees that governs St. Mary's Academy are all volunteers. It includes members of the Loretto Community, current and past SMA parents, alumnae, and business professionals from the Denver metro area. I had previously known that the Board of Trustees meets during the school year and is responsible for assuring the financial future of the school, determining the yearly tuition, setting policies that will help further the school's mission, and hiring the Academy President. That's a lot of work for volunteers. Honorable Ollie Marie-Victoire California Superior Court Justice and Jane Lubchenco the first woman to serve as Chief of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as well as 19th United States National Security Advisor and 66th U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are St. Mary's Academy graduates. Although St. Mary's Academy, co-ed preK-7 and girl's high school, does not have a discount on the tuition for the children of Veterans, hence 4 stars instead of 5, it does have general tuition assistance funded by donors. The Academy was founded in 1864, which was during the American Civil War. William Gilpin, first Colorado territorial governor, supported the Union and quickly raised a regiment. The United States War Department credited Colorado with supplying 4,903 to the Union Army. I don't know how many of us who attended St. Mary's Academy went on to Serve in America's Armed Forces. My papa, uncles and male cousins were all The Greatest Generation WWII Veterans, a grandfather a WWI US Army Veteran, my family all Kennedy Democrats, fervently believed in the only US President to receive a Purple Heart President John F. Kennedy's Call to Service, "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." St. Mary's Academy Mission is "St. Mary's Academy fosters excellence in each child through academic achievement, spiritual development, and service." (Assassinated) President Kennedy and St. Mary's Academy both challenge every American to contribute in some way to the public good. The magic of both is not what either promises us, but what both ask from us. That is the heart and soul of the thing we call Camelot. It is real and accounts for the reason that St. Mary's Academy still endures 158 years later as of this writing.

I'm deeply concerned about transparency and accountability issues within our community,…read moreparticularly within this prominent church. Attempts to address potential misconduct or lack of transparency are met with suppression, fueling my determination to expose any injustices. Recent events underscore the need for transparency, especially within influential institutions. Red flags emerged with new leadership, but attempts to address them were dismissed. Similar patterns occurred at the leader's previous church in Moscow, Idaho, where NDAs silenced victims. Now he claims ignorance about his behavior, but that does not seem congruent with his past behavior and dismissal from prior church. This seems to be a pattern he most definitely is aware of. An executive pastor, upon confronting the leader about his behavior, was coerced into signing an NDA or face termination. Transparency was further compromised when information was blacked out during a congregation address, claiming ignorance of inappropriate behavior. It's our duty to hold institutions and leaders accountable. Using Matthew 18 as a shield is unacceptable, given the pattern of NDAs to conceal misconduct. Claims of firing for cause raise questions about addressing other misconduct transparently. Biblical standards for pastors emphasize qualities like self-control and accountability, urging transparency in cases of misconduct. I've witnessed dedicated individuals ousted under new leadership, replaced by the pastor's acquaintances, despite their integrity and commitment. It's time to address these issues openly and honestly, ensuring the well-being of our community. Ignoring misconduct and silencing victims contradicts Christian values and undermines trust. Accountability is essential for the integrity of our community. https://www.facebook.com/share/dCrBSkZ4d2hALKJg/?mibextid=WC7FNe Post from previous member who is sharing experiences at his prior church. I am a graduate of the LHS class of 2002 when the school had yet to merge to one. But the current executive director was my math and theology teacher back then, and many teachers at LHS are still teaching, as well as former classmates who are now teachers. My husband is an alumni, and we have several siblings and relatives who are also. So I have credibility when I speak on LHS. I would never send my three teenagers to this school knowing what I know and experiencing what I've experienced. LHS has recently made the news for very disturbing reasons. I am here to say that when this has happened, I have not been surprised at all, not one tiny bit, because my experience and feelings about the culture at LHS--back when I was a student and still today (and again, I have relatives who are current students)--troubles me very much. I personally believe, despite how the narrative is controlled in various methods (such as blocking me from asking good-faith questions in the alumni group, and removing review platforms), that the issues are systemic at LHS. My personal opinion is that the bad behavior that is repeatedly ending up in the news is not because of one or two rogue students, it is because this behavior is actually stemming from the top with the administration. I also personally believe--and many alumni have concurred with me, as over 200+ comments proved on a previous letter of concern I published--that accountability is something the administration of LHS has willfully struggled with for many decades. Decades. I am an embarrassed, ashamed alumni of this school. There are a handful of wonderful teachers, but I am also so aware of so much that I cannot even talk about in this review if I wish it to remain posted. I cannot express, as an alumni and a mother of three Christian teens, I cannot express enough my concern that you should not consider this as a school that will in any way profit your child and their success in character growth or mental health. I don't know how else to try and state it. Please protect your children, because I don't feel the school will.

This school is NOTHING like the other review given. That parent must have been fed the wrong…read moreinformation. To address their points individually: 1. "The teachers don't teach and cry all day long ranting and raving about their far left liberal agendas" This is simply not true. I have gone to this school since 2015, before this person wrote this review. I have NEVER heard of some "far left liberal" teacher "ranting and raving" about their beliefs. This school is for education, and that is exactly what you get when you go to this school. 2. "They shoot students down that have even a slightly differing opinion and even have the audacity to hand out questionnaires to students questioning them on their religious and political viewpoints so they can target those they don't agree with while preaching supposed 'tolerance!'" Again, this is simply not true. Our school has a large variety of students with different opinions, and teachers do not shoot people down for having different opinions. In fact, most teachers encourage students to make arguments against what they are saying because it shows that they are THINKING and ENGAGED in the lesson. We have everyone from LGBTQ+ leftists to far right Trump supporters, and everyone is encouraged and allowed to have their own opinions. 3. "Does this type of thing remind anyone of Nazi Germany (who actually KNOWS REAL HISTORY) much?" This is simply RIDICULOUS. Comparing a BVSD school to Nazi Germany? Does anyone else see how completely overdramatic and absurd this comparison is? 4. "Secondly, there is ZERO moral compass. Both sexes are allowed in the bathrooms and are often having sex in the bathrooms on the toilets loudly moaning (gross), girls walk around with a bra and underwear with no purpose, drugged and dumbed down." Again, as someone who has gone to this school for YEARS, this is simply not true. Bathrooms are separated by sex, male and female, just like any other school. Sexual contact, of course, occurs in this school every once in a while, just as it does at any other school, but that does not lower the quality of the school. Teenagers are horny and will try to have sex: that is a fact of life. The important thing is that the staff does everything in their power to stop this from occurring on school grounds AND encourages that if students decide to have sex outside of school, they do it safely and consensually. And to respond to what this person thinks girls walk around in, this is, again, completely baseless and untrue. Girls dress like every other high schooler, and our dress code prevents showing private parts, including male and female chests, and requires that undergarments are covered. I'd say that's pretty reasonable. The "drugged and dumbed down" comment is, again, incorrect. Yes, there is drug use, just like any other high school, and Monarch staff does everything in their power to prevent it from occurring and educates students about the dangers of doing such things. That is as much as you can expect them to do 5. "My child was bullied by staff and students and had to listen to negative political rants all day from more that one teacher about the president and was also humiliated and shamed for using critical thinking skills that are SUPPOSED to be used!!!" I'm sorry that that was your perception of whatever situation occurred. I'm sure that the staff here have made many mistakes, again, just like any other high school, but I HIGHLY doubt that ANY of the staff here "bullied" your child. Secondly, political conversations in social studies classes are common, whether you see them as negative or positive. Last year, these were especially prevalent because of the controversy surrounding the presidency, and I think that the teachers handled this very well. It is difficult to facilitate these sorts of difficult conversations, but it is very important. I, again, highly doubt that anyone was humiliated or shamed for their opinion. As I said before, there are a large variety of political opinions here at this school, and everyone is encouraged to express those in a respectful and civil manner. 6. "We are actively trying to move our kids to another high school! It literally makes me ill to think of them going back here!" Good. Once you go to another high school, you will regret taking Monarch for granted. We are an incredible school and your twisted negativity does not belong here. We preach acceptance, diversity, and kindness, no matter one's race, gender, sexual orientation, or political views and opinions. I respectfully disagree with your opinions and do not appreciate you trashing our school. To anyone still reading, I would highly recommend Monarch. We are, of course, flawed, just as any other school is, but we are also one of the best high schools in BVSD. Your child will get 1-on-1 help from their counselor to find the right classes for them, will be able to get help from their teachers, and most importantly, will LEARN.
