The whole situation was still heart wrenching. We got Madeline's ashes back five days later and the small touches made the process easier. With our other dog, Olive, who was cremated, we were simply given a box of ashes from the funeral home and we cried all the way home. It sucked! With Madeline and Partridge Enterprises they included a card with her paw print and her ashes were already in an urn. Not a cheesy urn either, a really funky cooper urn with paw prints on the exterior. Very Madeline :) There was a sweet poem and a note. Sure, we cried all the way the home, but this time I wasn't worrying about what I was going to do with a cardboard box of ashes. We talked about Madeline and how happy she was when the front door opened and her tail would start thumping uncontrollably (that and her love of carrots!). I own a pet based business in the same building as my vet, and I was at work when I saw the truck stop by to pick up my Cody. The man driving (I can't remember his name, I was too upset) was SO nice to me as I told him he was there to pick up my baby. He talked to me about him, he looked at his picture, and he brought him out and let me see him one more time before he was taken to be cremated. He also gave me a hug and told me how sorry he was for my loss. Those may not seem like big deals, but to me they were. When I received Cody's ashes, they were in a beautiful urn, with a paw print and a card with the Rainbow Bridge poem on it. I was very pleased, as much as one could be with such a loss. A few weeks later, I saw the same man back at my vet's office to pick up someone else's pet. I went out to say thank you again, since I was in a better state of mind then. He not only remembered me AND my dog, but asked me if I got the paw print, and talked to me for a bit. I felt so much better that my baby had been taken care of by people that truly cared. He made it abundantly clear that you and the loss of your beloved pet is what mattered. We called to seek services and without even hesitation or the mention of packages and pricing, all Paul wanted to know was "What was her name." Not in a way to write up a form, but in general interest of wanting to know what important pet has left your family. My family has been in animal rescue for years and no one has ever taken that caring approach on wanting to know about the pet first. What was she like, how she mattered to you and her importance in your life. He made you feel like you indeed are dealing with a loss and it was definitely significant. Upon meeting him, it was understood why. He had a dog, Brady, that was his whole world. This dog travelled the nation with him and was his companion for years. He was known in the community and was very beloved. Sadly, he passed away and Paul knew first hand the great loss it weighs on the heart. He took that loss and somehow translated into being able to comfort those during their sadness and making them feel like they are not just a transaction. He sympathized, because he felt that pain before. He understood, because he has been there before. And for some, these pets are their whole world, and he has known that, because he had Brady. From the jump PVVC was the first place that didn't make me feel like getting someone on the phone was an inconvenience. My dudes ears were extremely infected. It wasn't enough to qualify for an emergency, but needed to be addressed quickly. They got him in the same day and treated him with so much kindness and care. It was great. We had our follow up today and was met with that same level of care. I'm not one who has a lot of triggers, but I was asked before his vaccinations if I needed to leave before they got out any needles. That meant a lot to me. They care about their humans as much as the pets. Even though it's out of the way, I will continue to support Pine Valley Veterinary Clinic because honestly, they provide a level of care I've barely recognized in hooman hospitals.

As I began speaking, the woman started talking over me without allowing me to say a word. I said excuse me and she said "I asked how much your pet weighs". I was stunned by the lack of professionalism and rudeness. I provided his weight and tried to explain that he was being euthanized that same night but she cut me off again. She began to rattle off what was included in "the package" and said the cost was $200. When I asked if I could pick our pet up after cremation or if they return him to the hospital as most pet cremations do, the response was no. I was informed that our pet would be sent to us by FedEx!! What a lack of compassion to send our beloved pet of 15 years back to us through the mail. I would never recommend this business to anyone. They should not be in this type of business if they cannot show empathy to a pet owner. Our dog, Bailey is part of our family and they are very disrespectful!
