Laid back music on a decent volume level tasty and affordable wines and tap, as well as bottled beers. If you are looking for some pool action it might also be worth a try. Being a non-red-meat-eater obviously put me at a slight disadvantage but I order the Bergkäse Blattspinatknödel (cheese and spinach dumplings) and they were phenomenal. I also had two glasses of Riesling that were sehr gut ~ very sweet which is perfect for my taste. Overall, the atmosphere is wonderful and the wait staff were very patient with my party (16 people, 14 of which are Americans). It is a pricier restaurant compared to most I've seen in Berlin so far but the portions are large.

The mixologist had an interesting German name I can't remember - a Berliner that had a great command of Bourbon drinks. I tried quite a few. My favorite was a bourbon chartreuse sazerac - I'm drooling in a shitty hostel bed in Croatia just thinking about it. The bar is in a quiet part of town, but that only adds to the intimacy of it. "Retro" however is misleading - this pub…read moredoesn't use retro decor to appear old, this place has actually been around forever and interior-wise nothing much has changed. Typical for an old "Berliner Kneipe" is cheap beer "vom Fass" (draft), cheap Schnapps (try the 1 Euro shots of Kirsch-Wodka), and a smoker-friendly environment. Usually the patrons are as old as the pub and come here on a daily basis but since this place is located on the busy intersection of Danziger Str / Greifswalder Str the crowd is very mixed. Get a Schultheiss Bier for 2.30 Euro, a shot of cheap Schnapps, and chat with the friendly bartender or come for Bundesliga/Championsleague screenings. That place gets packed! Since it's a smoker-friendly pub they stopped serving food, which is a bummer. German rules, really.
