They re-opened recently and have a bar downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. The views over the valley and of the sun going down over the Minho is as breathtaking as ever, and this time, the food is great. I actually did not order a starter but got four: grilled pineapple chunks with blood sausage (excellent), a small omelet, olives and dried meat. Followed by a succulent octopus arm that had simmered in the oven to perfection. The crema de leite was OK, as was the quarter of alvarinho which they graciously provided (normally, it's by the bottle). All this cost me 23.50 EUR and of course, the price of the taxi. The day of my visit, I was all alone. It looks like foreigners don't know this place. It certainly deserves a visit and I wish them all the luck!

My visit to Ponte de Lima was no different. My friend was from the Viana do Castelo region. He wanted to take me there to experience the best sarralbulho which you can only find in this region. For foreigners like me, sarralbulho is a pork blood stew. I had an ill reaction to morcilla (blood sausage) weeks prior, but experiencing a culture through food is worth a future stomach ailment, right? Of course! The serving dish of sarralbulho was huge and easily fed my party of 4. Granted, my party was two light eating women, myself, and a ravenous former local. Bring your appetites. It really did taste great, like a dish of lightly spicy chili (forgive the American analogy). I think we also had some root vegetables with this dish also. Later, we walked along the platanos lined boulevard and played billiards in the small town.

Our server helped us thru the menu with no issue and made some great recommendations on the menu and wine list. We wanted to try a local red wine. He warned us we may not like it, but we insisted and poured into the traditional bowls for this wine.( he was right, not to our taste). We would go back to Petiscas anytime, you should too!

The clams were very fresh and the sauce was very tasteful with a tiny hint of spice which made my mouth burst with flavor. I had to ask for more bread to dip into the sauce. For the entree i had a half portion of steak with potatoes and vegitables. The steak was cooked very good to my tasting with excellent use of herbs and seasoning and very tender. The service was also very well since my waiter marcelo spoke perfect english and the owner Eduardo Martins came to check up on the table and asked how i enjoyed the meal. Shows me that he cares about his costumers. Definitely a high recommendation if you are in ponte de lima enjoying the history and lovely sites. Will be coming back very soon.
