Since my original review, El Panzo has expanded its interior with more seating and a full service bar and I couldn't be happier. It has become my fave in the Madison area. Their cemitas are still stellar but don't sleep on their tacos. They are all well seasoned and extremely flavorful. I love their tacos arabe. Served on a flour tortilla, this precursor to El Pastor is outstanding. Friendly staff and great drinks round out the experience.

Right beside a competitor and another restaurant we frequent for tacos but the flavors and even the entrees offered are unique. Flavors are so strong and satisfying! Everything I've tried here has been consistently good. Staff are friendly and communicate effectively with each other. You can tell the team is on the same page. Their shrimp dishes are phenomenal and they do not skimp on quality or quantity! Very clean each time I visit, and with it being such a small space they're full and busy every time I go.

    Molcajete. Mmmmm.

We enjoyed both the food and service here. Margaritas were huge and good, although my companion thought they needed more tequila

Service was great. Small restaurant setting but they plan on expanding. Food was good. Definitely authentic. Not Americanized.

Their cemitas are incredible! We got the cemita campechana and weren't disappointed. Will definitely be back.

Spotless interior, super-friendly staff. We always get a huge pile of tacos and they're always delicious. Their guac is great too.

What's their preferred method of calling a takeout order? Their phone number seems out of service.

It worked when I called to find out if they were open for dinner on the 4th of July.

I know that's…read morethe typical thing you think of for Mexican food, but it has been on my list to find places that serve it in the Midwest. After trying different variations from other restaurants in Chicago and Madison, I have to say they have the best carne asada fries (titled Loaded Fries under the shareable section). The fries are wedged with an assortment of quac, sour cream, their own cheese sauce, and pico de gallo. What made it so good was the ratios of the ingredients and the cheese sauce. The portions are enough for two people to share, though you may leave with clogged arteries. Although at times there may be a language barrier with staff, they were attentive to our needs and checked on us regularly. A fun fact is that they are located behind the grocery store aspect of the place. Vibes were great.

GF got 2 steak and one chicken tacos. She said steak was good but chicken was flavorless. I got lengua and cauliflower. The lengua was not cleaned well or seared so it was just gray meat with veins and other sclera in it. Cauliflower was typical bar food "deep fried buffalo" style, but on a taco. Guac was decent. I think the gal making margaritas mixed up sugar and salt and our drinks were salty. Poor service - total of 3 people attended our table but nobody returned to check on us. Total experience $45.

Came on a Sunday afternoon to a nearly empty restaurant and got seated immediately. Ordered horchata and enchiladas verdes and ny girlfriend ordered the enmoladas. The horchata was nice, though it wasn't fresh or homemade. I was mixed on the enchiladas verdes, since the rice, beans, and chicken tasted great. My only gripe was that the salsa verde was lacking in flavor and acidity I expect from a salsa. I got to taste the enmoladas and the sauce for that seems to be their signature. Delicious and complex. My girlfriend was very happy with her meal. I was also pleased to see that you can pre-order a dozen tamales a day ahead any time (not just seasonally) I will come back again, especially to pick up more tamales rojas and to try some other dishes

It's also rare to see these "antojitos" in the menu. I also tried the milanesa and that was my favorite. Thin and lightly breaded. So good! The fajitas and taco salad were delicious, as well. The service was good and the atmosphere very colorful. I'm looking forward to trying it again.
