Not to say we didn't have alot of good food, but here each dish received high marks. The chanfana is the local special, so would highly recommend you get that. All of the meat was done well... Crispy outside and fall apart, fork tender on the inside. The staff were also very friendly and personable.

The food is quite good and reasonably priced. We ordered grilled octopus and grilled fish, and fish soup. Our waitress somehow couldn't take our order in time (she was just going around serving other tables). Other than that it was a nice lunch experience.

This is a hidden tiny rustic restaurant located on a side street in the historical section of the city that serves traditional Portuguese cuisine. We were lucky they had a free table for us and as the night went on it was packed. The server was so friendly and attentive and the food was served hot and fresh. We will be returning before our vacation is over to try more of their traditional dishes. Delicious.

We ate at Papas Zaide on a Sunday, and the owner cooked a meal for three very difficult guests - two vegetarians and someone who was allergic to dairy and eggs. She created a basic stew over rice with pseudo-chicken for us vegetarians and made sure all the appetizers were edible by all - including a pseudo olive loaf, along with delicious bread, olives, oranges, and salad, accompanied by honey and olive oil. For the meat eaters, the traditional meal of fall-off-the-bone pork and potatoes hit the spot. The white and red table wine from small, local Duoro Valley wineries was some of the best we had on the whole tour, topped with a moscato for dessert. Our hostess even made a special dessert with no eggs - a kind of trifle with non-egg custard, fruit, jello, and biscuits that was delicious. Highly recommend for down-to-earth home cooking with a very accommodating hostess.

This very cute restaurant was empty since we were here after the lunch crowd so we were seated immediately. My meal was a dish of pork cheeks cooked in an amazing gravy with potatoes and tasted like 'comfort food'. If I didn't KNOW this was pork I would have thought it was beef short ribs off the bone...tasted absolutely amazing. Wifey ordered baked cod sprinkled with cornbread crumbs and served with a couple small potatoes and some greens. Our guide, who knew the owners here, had fried octopus and let us have a taste - yeah, this was fantastic too! Though our guide recommended dessert we had to pass as our servings were rather large and we knew we'd have something sweet soon enough. What an incredible lunch.
