Kabob Koobideh and Joojeh Kabob

For starters as soon as you walk into Zafran Restaurant, you are transported back in time. The ambience is effervescent and inviting. It is clear that each decorative piece was carefully selected to add to the decorum. The Mirza Ghasemi was a perfect blend of spices and the garlicky delight left you craving more and certainly asking for extra homemade bread to relish the appetizer with. As for entrees, I am very picky about the taste of my meat. So, you wouldn't believe my shock when I was informed that the kabob koobideh and barg were both made with lamb. Each option was so tender and delicious without any taste of gaminess, that I was easily fooled into thinking that they were made of beef! As for the joojeh kabob, even the chicken without bone was tender and juicy and left a decadent saffron and butter taste in my mouth. Of course, no Persian dinner would be complete without Persian ice cream! This sweet treat is one of my favorites, and Zafran Restaurant surely did not disappoint. The ice cream was especially creamy and reverted me back to the homemade ice cream of my childhood. An overall 10/10 experience and the owner Mr. Ali was incredibly charming and welcoming. Can't wait to come back to Copenhagen just to visit Zafran!

Aubergine dish with beef and saffron rice
Linda F.

First off: BYOB. I have yet to meet a bring-your-own-bottle restaurant that I don't like, so we're off to a good start. They also carry wine, but I chose to bring my own. No corking fees or anything like that. The entree of sabzi khordan (specielle iransk forret/ Iranian entree) was an understated and refreshing dish. It's not the most impressive dish, since it's really just a plate of fresh herbs - mint, basil, green onion, taragon - with radishes and feta served with warm lavash flatbread. But the taste of these humble ingredients together is really wonderful. I highly recommend if you enjoy fresh and subtle flavours. Of course, you can easily make this at home, it's just a nice way to start the meal. We tried both the 'Zafran speciel' and 'Orientalsk aubergineret'. The Zafran speciel is fall-off-the-bone tender lamb shank that's nicely seasoned with some slightly gamey lamb flavour. The aubergine dish with tender chunks of beef was my favorite. Both dishes came with saffron flavoured basmati rice. The portion sizes are very generous and meat heavy. I had enough to serve me as leftovers for lunch the next day. I'm altogether pretty impressed with the food. Everything was nicely done and tasty. The only complaint (if I have to nitpick) is that the presentation and decor looks drab. Not the most stylish or sophisticated place, but I'm a fan of their simple, flavourful food.

Oily veggies and over cooked

If I could I would give it 0 Stars... Dont come to this place! Its awful! The service is bad and unprofessional! The food isnt worth the Price AT ALL - they're cheap with portions! The vegetarian dish was gross, the veggies were overcooked and drenched in Oil. The Meat dishes weren't impressive either. The Meat was beat paper thin and it was dry and overcooked. To top everything off we waited MORE than 1 hour for our food... It took them 30-40 mins to bring out starters, I mean does tzatziki take that long? Impressive.

If you into experiencing different worldly cuisines a must on your do list should be the…read morePersian/Iranian kitchen. A kitchen that is big on fresh herbs, Saffron, stews and charcoal grill and offers well balanced seasoned food that is not spicy. Aras is one of the few in Malmö offering such food and they do it ratter good. At Aras you won't be granted an authentic Persian ambiance; the restaurant is small and modestly or as I really would want to put it ratter poorly decorated! Okay let's face it Aras is one of them places that is all about the food and nothing ells. And let me assure you the food is much better than the decor!! What makes Aras good is the rice. The Persian rice, often Basmati, is parboiled and then steamed. This cooking method results in fluffiness, a trade mark and judging criteria for a Persian kitchen. It can be seasoned with fresh chopped herbs and saffron and mixed with beans, fruit or berries. It is then served with different grilled/cooked meats or stews. What makes Aras even better is the fact they offer mix or combos of rice and grilled meats that are untraditional! Aras is the only place, I know of, where you can have your kebabs with other type of rice than saffron seasoned rice! Hereby saluting the freedom of choice! The meats/kebabs are not "melt in your mouth" tender as they should be but still in no way chewy and in fact very delicious. The starters with aubergine accompanied with bread are to die for as well as the herb stew with kidney beans (Ghormesabzi). However the yellow split peas stew (Ghieme) lacks depth and the zing as well as the aroma dried lime fruit should provide and the peas are heavily overcooked. The lamb shank that is "Fall of the bone" tender is served with a pretty bland tomato and saffron sauce that needs to be thicker and more under the influence of Saffron. Sadly the number of Persian restaurants is very limited in Malmö or generally in Sweden I assume! Considering this fact Aras is a quite decent and a safe choice even though it is a bit of a compromise!
