Restaurant tucked away in a small hotel right at the Swiss/French border, serving high quality and very reasonably priced local specialties. As it's the season of la chasse (the hunt), I tried the entrecôte of deer. It was served rare on a hot stone, and you could slice and leave to cook to your liking. With all the fixings, including sprouts, chestnuts, and spätzle, it was well presented and delicious. And this for 34 CHF, which is very reasonable for quality food in Switzerland. They also have a Saturday menu, which included salad, a main of roasted deer in sauce, and crème brûlée for only 28.50 CHF. There's a small wine list focused on local producers, and I tried a very good pinot noir.
The decor is basic, though there are large windows for a panoramic view of the surrounding fields and forests. Service was very friendly. Food arrived in a timely fashion, though nothing ever felt rushed.
This place is definitely a bit off the beaten track, but it's worth a visit if you like eating meat and drinking good wine at reasonable prices. They also have a selection of cheese specialties, including raclette and malakoff. Definitely hope for a return visit to try more dishes! read more
