Gladly they changed the concept again and today I decided to give it a try. On short notice I reserved a table for two - happy it worked out. Ambiance is still very stylish - I did like that they keep a nice space between the tables. Service was ok probably a bit understaffed for the size of the restaurant, so we had to wait several times (for bread, for wine) but overall it was ok. There is currently a big shortage in service staff in the restaurant. so many of the restaurants are in trouble. The wine list is ok but could use an upgrade on the German side, also the new world is missing but they have some locals, a good representation of Italien, Spanish and French wines and many Austrian wines - because the director is an Austrian. We ended up with an Chardonnay from Alois Lageder from South Tirol. The food menu is well structured. I loved the tuna carpaccio as an entree. As a main I had the special, a champagne risotto with white alba truffle - I know it's end of December and already late in the truffle season but still when you charge over 60 bucks for a risotto you would expect fresh truffle- what I did not get (they lose very fast the intense taste if stored for longer time or in the wrong way) - a no go. Still the risotto itself was very good so the chef is definitely knowing what he is doing. I finished with the melted coffee ice cream - Vienna style. Overall for me a mixed dinner experience- some highlights but also some not so good points especially the alba truffle story. I don't think it will become a favorite restaurant of mine again but probably I will give it another try in a couple of months. I see the potential for giving 4 stars.

Tuchlaube is an evening and after-Theater bar in Aarau, Switzerland. The bar is very well known…read moreamong intellectuals and playwrights. Usually the place is empty until 4pm. After that, the place takes reservations for tables - if you show up after that time you will need to sit outside or stand at the bar. Tuchlaube serves local (light) beers some whiskeys and tea/coffee, as well as small bites like burgers, sandwiches and flat-dough pizzas. The interior is hip, bright and the ceiling slopes to the back. The wait staff are clueless. There were big mistakes in our waiters' knowledge of basic prices for beers and food (I was overcharged). After we dined, I was also charged 2 Francs for 'mineral' water - when I specifically asked for tap! That is a trick waiters pull in Europe to up the bill amount. Nevertheless, Tuchlaube is a funky and bright bar with lots of chatter. The bar didn't sell the whiskey I had felt like drinking. Come to Tuchlaube for a quick hot tea on a cold day - or sit outside in the summer. Now all you have to do is find it! Review: 4

In any case, we were in Aarau for a design show and having never really explored the city before, we were wandering around, hungry, and ended up in the Altstatt where we happened to round a corner and saw the sign for Al Ahram. Aha! Sadly, it's really tiny inside and it was completely full. So, we ordered and then sat outside and watched the people go by. Our decision to split one of their falafel platters turned out to be have been a good choice. One each would have been way too much food. Their falafel is quite obviously homemade and was some of the best that I've ever had. The Platter comes with various sauces, etc., all of which was scraped clean by the time we finished. The reason for that is because it was really good and we didn't want to waste any. If they had any dessert, ala middle-eastern fair, I missed it. Aside from that, I can't complain about anything and don't want to. We'll definitely be back!
