On my first day, I had a small breakfast here of croissants and juice. Another day we came by for lunch, and I had a delicious hand-tossed pizza which came out in a lopsided circle, just like pizza should. It was covered in meaty goodness, with bits of cured ham and bacon amongst the gooey cheese. I'm glad I got it to share; it was definitely too much to eat by myself! Another evening we stopped by for drinks and dessert. The bartender poured me a special liquor from his personal collection; something that was native to Schaffhausen. It was super strong (in comparison to American alcohol, of course) but good. I also ordered a crème brûlée. Since the owner knew my friends, he let me flambé the top of the dessert myself! It made for a special evening during my vacation. The ambiance of Theater Restaurant is exactly what I'd expect for a European cafe: modern yet simple, with window-side tables in the front room, a lounge bar, and a menu written on a chalkboard wall. The way the falls are lit up along with the building across the water are just lovely. It's too bad my camera wasn't the best, otherwise, I'd have many more photos from my dinner. Service was extremely friendly and as I was reading the menu, I found that I wanted to try everything on it! I settled for a pumpkin soup and the special fish (which was a fish I can't pronounce, but I can say that it's fished locally - from right in front of the restaurant!). We started with an amuse bouche of shrimp and avocado mousse (wow!) and then the pumpkin soup. The soup was delightful and delicious and came with a little pumpkin salad, which I have to say was quite interesting and fresh! NThe main dish was the fish with potatoes and spinach. YUM! It was slightly pan fried, but very light and delicious. I couldn't finish the entire portion! Oh - and I almost forgot - before dinner, we had a raspberry smoothie that was really nice - not too sweet and a perfect palate cleanser. I tried to avoid dessert, but my colleague insisted, so we shared the creme brule. It had a fig accompanyment and was just the right amount of sweet and had a lovely vanilla flavor. The kids were given coloring pages and pencils (always a plus!) and their rösti with Raclette plates were sooo good. The restaurant was very clean and care was taken to distance diners during the time of COVID. Our waiter was wonderful and took the time to explain everything to us. We were able to sit in the window seat upstairs with a wonderful view old town. Our server was great, and took good care of us, teaching us how to use the fondue pot.
