Food price / quality (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is contemporary Swiss. Service was timely and proper. I have given about five rave reviews in the years of my "restaurant critic" hobby. I give this place a "double rave review" without hesitation! Located in the beautiful tourist friendly town of Andermatt that is as quaint and homey as a country village. Sandro - owner/gastro entrepreneur, and his wife Charlene, culinary artist/genius chef at Gasthaus Tell, Andermatt, Switzerland, are producing the type of gastro-experience that should not be missed if you are within 50 miles of Andermatt. I had the "Bobotie", a curry mince beef dish (see the menu for details) that combined a variety of flavors and textures as I've never experienced. Consisting of several distinct, yet complimentary, unusual top quality items, every single bite created a unique flavor experience that one would be lucky with which to be blessed. This was one of the most complex and varied combinations of flavors and textures I've ever experienced. By selecting and mixing the several items on the plate in different combinations, every bite was unique. Pan sauteed curry minced beef, with a topping of cream sauce baked in a ramekin, served with tumeric rice and chili hair (a trade secret guarded closely), shito, parsley, banana and apricot chutney, this meal was like no other I've ever had. Chef Charlene, culinary genius/artist and owner, along with her husband gastro- entrepreneur Sondro, have created an experience that few restarantuers can ever hope to achieve. Their three restaurants are sprinkled around the globe, spreading joy to every palate lucky enough to cross their path. Locally sourced and wild foraged ingredients such as berries, fungi, and herbs guarantee a rare and incomparable experience. All of this talent is also apparent in their dessert offerings, which would require a poet to describe in a just fashion. The additional design choices of the atmosphere in their restaurants include attention to details such as napkins folded in different manners from each other, warm shawls on.the backs of the chairs for chilly customers to warm themselves and a menu with fresh rosemary woven through their logo. The prices were considerably less than one would normally expect to pay for this kind of quality. You may want to get here early, as some specials tend to be sold out quickly. This place is so good, I'm breaking one of my own commandments regarding eating at the same place twice while on vacation, by going back tomorrow. HIGHLY and WHOLEHEARTEDLY RECOMMENDED!!! read more
