The fries were cooked perfectly too-crispy but soft and tender on the inside. The server was extremely friendly and helpful, and I appreciated how attentive he was, even though it was crazy busy. It's a great location and I'd highly recommend this place if you're looking upscale Swabian comfort food near the train station!

Easily my favorite bar in Germany. Although located in a sleepy part of the suburb of Möhringen,…read moreIt's only a block from the U-3 line, and near the SI-Centrum. We first popped in because it's near the hotel we're staying at. It is a smoking bar which means unlike most bars in Germany, kids under 18 aren't allowed inside. Not quite sure how that law works yet. But it's well-ventilated, has great lighting (including a "starry sky") and a hip but cozy atmosphere. The drink menu is a step above what we've found at most bars, even other lounges. A decent selection of hard liquors, mixed drinks that are a cut above, and a small but carefully chosen wine menu, plus a slightly larger-than-typical beer menu although it is still restricted to local brews. After coming in for a nightcap a few times, we decided to take the plunge and order food just because it seemed convenient. To be honest, we weren't expecting much out of the tiny kitchen operated by the manager. I was delighted to be wrong - the chili con carne I had, recommended by the German-American manager, was fantastic and the most flavorful food I've had in Germany so far! My husband got the XL cheeseburger and promptly declared it Germany's greatest burger. Mind you, the competition is far from stiff on that one, but it was a truly solid, freshly-prepared burger. The prices are super cheap, so you're paying for bar food but getting something a bit more special. The place is usually not packed, although for the big Bayern-Milan game last night it was full. The crowd is varied - young business people, old neighborhood types. The waitstaff is very friendly and prompt - another welcome surprise. Oh and the best part? The music. After weeks of hearing little but Katy Perry and Genesis blasted everywhere, it is so nice to to be in a location where whoever chooses the music obviously has some taste as well as a sense of humor.

(Even though it was really hot.) A nice lady named Rita, (She might be the owner of the resteraunt but we are not sure,) was really kind to us when we ordered. There is also a hotel right on top of this restaurant. There are a couple of rooms, that were really clean and tidy. If you are looking for a nice hotel, with a dinner and breakfast, this is the place you want to go. The German motif was really beautiful in the dining area. You can even hear the kitchen cooking your food in the corner. I think it was cool to hear the sizzling pans and popping food. Now as with Covid regulations, there is a hand sanitizer right by the door, and the tables are seperated nicely. Of course, you don't have to wear your mask while eating, but when leaving and entering. Therefore, this resteraunt (and hotel) is a really nice place to stay and eat.

The bartender is Italian, speaks italian, the place is elegant, cozy, the lights are dimmed, candles on the table. The menu is appealing, there are lots of wines by the glass and the atmosphere is good. Italian music but modern. Loud but not too much. Very good bread and oil. For the main part of the meal we were delighted. Great *I mean GREAT* Vitello Tonatto, very nice carpaccio (the salad could have been better spiced), fantastic spaghetti "in the wheel of parmiggiano" with truffles (but summer truffles, tasteless, so sadly topped with some "truffle" oil, a mediocre product). But let's be fair, the spaghetti was to die for !! Ravioli Porcini in a cream sauce, very good too. The meat, a piece of beef sliced at the table, was just hot when I started but due to the cold plate it was served on, became to cold very early in my jaw-destroying process. Nice steamed cooked vegetables. The desserts were average but this and the truffle oil is really what makes the difference between the 5* I intended and the 4* I finally opted for. Weird also that they didn't offer anything to a table of 2 who had two aperitifs, two glasses of white and a bottle of red, water, 2 starters, 2 pasta, 2 main courses and 2 desserts. C'mon... But a very nice place indeed.

That being said the service was very fast and the staff was friendly and helpful. Ordering in English wasn't a problem either. The restaurant wasn't very busy for lunchtime on a Sunday, so getting a table wasn't as issue. Despite the restaurant overlooking a small courtyard with a fountain which was full of local families with kids, it's want loud or disruptive at all. The inside is full of all sorts of wines, gins, etc. and was very clean and simply decorated. Between us we ordered a schnitzel, the lentil/sausage dish, and the daily special goulash with spätzle. All of our meals were large portions and tasted great. The goulash was super "beefy" and had a rich, dark gravy that paired well with the German noodles. Don't think you can go wrong here for lunch and the dinner menu had even more options.

Beet risotto- a good play on beats and goat cheese. Mends really well in the form of risotto, but could be creamier. Whiskey and spirits- a good variety, I tried third Donnes (black) , and it had a nice clean taste. But it's only 2 cl, so it's like tiny compared to a whiskey drink in US. Quite pricy for the size. They served it in a stemless wine glass, so ....yeah. Lots of local wine options for there or to go. Ambience- nice, cozy, and intimate. I've tried a small amount of German places, but still can't really see the differences between good and mediocre places. My recommendation: Use different glasses for wines & spirits. Season the meat.
