Let me first say that my main dish was only reasonably good. I believe it was hare stew. However, the cold soup gazpacho was the best soup I've had in my life! It was very different from other gazpachos I've had. It was quite fruity. My girlfriend loved it also. Oddly, it was served with sliced of smoked ham and sausage on the side. These were probably the best meat I've had in my life! They were very moist and flavorful. For desert I had a slice of cake with crushed walnuts and a coconut topping. Probably among the top 20 deserts I've had in my life. And it deserves extra acclaim because it was unusual (apparently this type of cake is even quite rare in Portugal, according to our waiter). My girlfriend liked her main dish of pork cheeks in a stew. The wine my girlfriend ordered was quite good. The main dishes were substantial in size and the waiter told us we could ask for more of them if we wanted (maybe this was because we were at the end of lunch -- but I would guess not). Service was good -- the waiter knew English. Prices were quite reasonable. If I recall correctly the bill with my ordering water was around 45 euro. Incredible for the quality of the food. I'd say anyone who is serious about food, lives within 200 miles, and has a way of visiting the restaurant, should do so. It would be worth the trip.

Please note that space is limited, as Sever Restaurant is right next door, and when both restaurants are busy, there are not enough parking slots. The restaurant has two dining areas, a larger charming one decorated with traditional Portuguese blue tiles, and a small yellow one devoid of any decor or personality. For appetizer, I ordered Sarapatel de Cabrito (Goat's Offal Soup), which personally was not my taste. For main course, I ordered half serving of Alhada de Cação (Catch of the Day), which was outstanding in terms of flavor; despite the fact it was a half serving, it was a good serving size. The reason for the rating is the terrible service. We had a reservation and arrived when the restaurant opened. We were seated in the small yellow room, the server took our order, and we were forgotten. The table beside ours had a family of four, who ordered, ate, paid for their meal and left in half an hour, while we had not even received our appetizers. Two old ladies arrived much later than us, sat at the table ahead of us, and received their appetizer before ours arrived. It took 35 minutes for us to receive our appetizers, and an hour and ten minutes to receive our main courses. For my main course, I had ordered half serving of Alhada de Cação and half serving of Javali (Boar), but given how terrible the service was, I cancelled the Javali order, as I had no appetite to wait for who knows how much longer it would take to get it. The Alhada de Cação was delicious, but the terrible service totally ruined the experience.

Bone yet tasty cut braised to tenderness and served in a vegetable laden sauce of spice and olive oil that defies the ability to resist sopping it up with fries. It is simple food made well.
