Not to say we didn't have alot of good food, but here each dish received high marks. The chanfana is the local special, so would highly recommend you get that. All of the meat was done well... Crispy outside and fall apart, fork tender on the inside. The staff were also very friendly and personable.

Our waiter, Raphael, was courteous and helpful with the all Portuguese menu. We ordered the house white wine and a bottle of still water. The wine was very good but very inexpensive. We started with soup, my wife with vegetable and me with seafood. While hers was good, mine was rich and flavorful and excellent (I had others in Portugal but this was the best). Then we had salad and chorizo sausage. Salad was adequate, but the sausage was done to perfection. Then came my wife's entree of pork cheeks with potatoes and a delicious cabbage mix. I had their goat, served in a pot with a luscious gravy that was perfect for dunking your bread in. With it were boiled potatoes and spinach. The spinach was pan seared with oil and garlic. The potatoes went well with the abundant gravy. Topped it off with the home made almond cake with a side of ice cream. All this for 75 euros. We came back to our hotel stuffed and satisfied. The only problem was yelp has the address wrong. I have included in the photos their card with the correct address, about a half block from the old one. By the way, they do take credit cards. Enjoy!

I now understand what they mean by "true Portuguese" restaurants. This was recommended by our local…read moreUber driver and it is tucked away off of the Sesimbra city center. There is a small patio seating area and then about 10 tables or so inside the inviting space. It is full of fish decor and carved wooden chairs and tables. A really charming mom and pop spot. At 7-ish PM were immediately greeted and seated. Given how popular the place supposedly was with locals, we were surprised by so few tables occupied. However, by the time we left a little after 8, the place was full. To our table, they immediately brought bread and a plate of cheeses, sardine pate, and butter. Know that you must pay for all of these and can hand back any items you do not plan to consume and not get charged. We handed back the plate with all but the butter and kept the bread. This was a solid choice and tasty bread. We ordered a curried shrimp stew and a pepper steak with a side of vegetables. The vegetables were a flat Italian green bean and they were expertly sautéed in garlic and butter. The curry was delicious with a seemingly endless amount of shrimp (served over white rice). It cost around 12 euros. The pepper steak was covered in a scrumptious brown sauce and served with both white rice and steak fries and a random few slices of tomatoes. The steak itself was a much thinner cut than they give in the US but was cooked well and was very tender. I was able to eat my portion with a butter knife! My husband and I enjoyed dipping the fries into the steak sauce. If you eat here, plan to pay with euros or a Visa or Mastercard. We had not yet exchanged currency to Euros and my typical travel Amex was giving them issues. It was awkward (but they were very kind and patient as we sought out an ATM). Would recommend. Most locals seemed to be ordering the fried or grilled fish, FYI.

Let me first say that my main dish was only reasonably good. I believe it was hare stew. However, the cold soup gazpacho was the best soup I've had in my life! It was very different from other gazpachos I've had. It was quite fruity. My girlfriend loved it also. Oddly, it was served with sliced of smoked ham and sausage on the side. These were probably the best meat I've had in my life! They were very moist and flavorful. For desert I had a slice of cake with crushed walnuts and a coconut topping. Probably among the top 20 deserts I've had in my life. And it deserves extra acclaim because it was unusual (apparently this type of cake is even quite rare in Portugal, according to our waiter). My girlfriend liked her main dish of pork cheeks in a stew. The wine my girlfriend ordered was quite good. The main dishes were substantial in size and the waiter told us we could ask for more of them if we wanted (maybe this was because we were at the end of lunch -- but I would guess not). Service was good -- the waiter knew English. Prices were quite reasonable. If I recall correctly the bill with my ordering water was around 45 euro. Incredible for the quality of the food. I'd say anyone who is serious about food, lives within 200 miles, and has a way of visiting the restaurant, should do so. It would be worth the trip.
