Very disappointing! Ordered the flank steak and it was so tough that I couldn't chew it at all. When I called for the check I was surprised to be told that the first steak was fine and charged me for both steaks! Putting the blame on the customer is appalling! Beware their kitchen can do no wrong, and you are not allowed to complain. Paid $150 for a very disappointing meal

Located in the "old town" of the city, this restaurant is located on a side street, not in the main…read moresquare, but still in a very nice area. We ate here in the evening in summer and the weather was amazing so we sat outside. The restaurant was established in the 1800s and the ambience inside spoke true to that. We loved eating on the sidewalk, but had we been inside, it would've been equally great. We chose this place because we wanted to make sure we had fondue on our first evening in Switzerland. To that respect, we found it to be better than average, but nothing that blew your socks off. We also got the Neuchâtel Sausage and Osso Buco, both of which were pretty darn good. We would definitely get them again. The service was great. Our waiter was polite and the food arrived in a timely manner expected for a nice restaurant. Other than the prices being high, which is to be expected in Switzerland, we thought it was an overall great experience. I'd be interested in checking out other restaurants in the city, but if the opportunity came up, I would definitely return.

Terrific fondue restaurant in the heart of old Fribourg…read more We arrived around 745 for dinner thru the winding narrow streets. Located on just the other side of river, the fog had already set in and gave the town an eerie appearance. With the old architecture and stone bridge the only thing missing were some heads on spikes at the bridge (I'm kidding). It really was a beautiful evening. Our large group was led upstairs to the second floor which had been reserved. We were provided some white wine upon entry along with some good bread. The appetizer were plates of smoked meat, along with some gerkins and pickled pearl onions (very good). But the star was the fondue...wow. Some different bread was brought out along with some small cooked white potatoes and a red wine. Then the steaming cauldrons of cheese. My Swiss hosts informed me the fondue was half Gruyere and half Vacherin cheese (a very local cheese) mixed with a bit of white wine. Absolutely outstanding and unlike anything I have had before. After the fondue was a delicious dessert which was a hardened meringue topped with fruit. I am not sophisticated enough to know what the name was but it was very good. Tasted almost like buttered popcorn. Our French speaking Swiss hostesses were exceptionally polite and accommodating and kept wine glasses and bread baskets full. A terrific experience and if I ever make it back to Fribourg I would love to come back here. Additionally I wish I had more time here to explore the old town.

Like any truly exciting restaurant find, this place is quite hidden and relatively unknown to…read moreeverybody except the locals. The weird bit about it is that 'the locals' are actually not local to the area, but from all over... this place is hiding in the middle of a campground! The restaurant has very limited hours during the low season, and really would rather not open up the kitchen unless it's a Friday or Saturday evening (which begs the question why they staff it on weekday nights... but what do I know?) If you can get one of them in an arm-bar long enough to get seated, you'll see that they have a charming multi-page menu with seasonal specials and also Swiss Romande traditional cuisine (which could be either the Roesti or the fondue, depend on with whom you speak...). Service is fast and friendly, and the Roestis here can be excellent if the chef is on their game. (If you know what a roesti is, then don't take my word for the quality... I'm American and anything potato and fried tastes magical to me). I have yet to assemble enough people here to get a fondue out of them, but I'm sure it will happen soon enough. The wine selection is very reasonable, and they seem to have access to the back labels of local vintners, which is kind of exciting- I've had a few reds from Auvernier which I haven't seen the labels of anywhere else in the surrounding towns. The decor is kind of Swiss funky, with lots of bizarre antique oddments nailed up on the walls. There's a wooden bicycle over the bar that's pretty cool, and some nautical bits strewn about as well. The hard part is finding it... follow the signs to the Paradis-Plage campground, and find the parking area reserved for the restaurant... or take the Onde Verte to the Bas des Allees stop and follow the signs up the path... or take the path around Lake Neuchatel in the direction of Colombier... you'll find the campground eventually.
