We tried some local beer (of course) and the burger, a ham and cheese platter and a baguette. The food was all good, the service friendly but a little too slow...

A fairly cosy place alright, and service was good up until the point where they screwed up…read more I'm allergic to wheat and therefore asked if there were any pasta in the vegetarian lasagna (since there was both eggplant and zucchini in it, which usually is used in substitut to pasta) and the answer was no. When we received the food (by the way, I also got lots of bread with this dish, going great with the allergy) we were kind of in a hurry, so when we started eating and I realized there was pasta in it I decided pick it out with my fork (classy!) and tell them about the situation when they came to the table. When I told the waitress the problem she simply said there shouldn't be any pasta in it and went to talk to someone. When she came back she sort of mumbled to me in bypass that she would remove our teas from the bill. To say the least, I was hardly satisfied with this lack of respect or the compensation (I mean! I degraded my self with picking like a five year old, I'd removed half my dish and last but certainly not least I'd hade traces of wheat in my system which I'm, like I said, allergic to) but I didn't feel like making further fuss so I agreed. When it came to payment then. The waitress removed not 2, but 1 tea from the bill. I asked about this and the waitressed answered that she couldn't give my husband a free tea because there was nothing wrong with his food. Add on that, she started blurt that we had asked for tap water (shame on restaurants for serving bottled water when there's perfectly good water in the tap!) which she served us even though the were not supposed to (like that's our problem). She also explained at this point that when I asked about pasta she thought I meant macaronis. So, that's that and in the end I got a big fat "we don't care" and 4 € compensation for a 15 € dish that I had to remove half, and I had to eat traces something I'm allergic to. And for the record, obviously it's not about the money, I went in there affording my food, it's about service and the empathy. They made a mistake, how ever honest it was, a person in their restaurant got hurt by it. They should feel ashamed for not treating me and the situation with respect.

There are many tables to sit outside with a view at the famous Vryithof, a sight of Maastricht. The sun shines brightly on the tables and many people come here to sit down, have a lunch or coffee and just chat with their friends. I was on a day trip and we just wanted something to eat at a nice place - even in winter, you could sit here outside. There was a little heating from above given by the restaurant. The rest heat you needed to feel comfy and nice was given by the cosy blankets and the sun. The food we ordered was very delicious, I had a steak with French Fries and a salad. The French Fries were perfectly cross, the salad dressing well seasoned. The steak was rare - well I prefer medium, but I did not tell them. That way I was sure to have a very tender steak. I missed some sauce or ketchup to be served with it, I am also sure they would have provided me some. Without, the French Fries got a bit dry at the end. It was already good as it was. Given the fact that it was one of the cheapest meals on the card (well actually it was an offer that was only displayed on a cardboard) and the cheapest of all the restaurants in the street, the meal was really, really good. I don't understand why other people had a bad experience in this store. I only waited some minutes till I was served and the drinks and food got there really quickly. The waiter even spoke fluent German to us after he must have heard that we speak German. Great restaurant, can definitely recommend it

The carpaccio was quite tasty with the drizzle of truffle cream. The olive tapenade was so filling, we couldn't finish it off. It was pretty dense for a veggie spread, but good. They had quite a few prix fixe dinner specials, all which sounded delicious and were a good deal. Service was standard.

The first experience didn't go very well, due to the overload of guests we had to wait 45 minutes for a table as they don't accept reservations, its like first come first served or so I thought. When we were finally seated it took the waitress 30 minutes to take our drink orders and another 1 hour and 30 minutes till the starters landed on the table, I wasn't very impressed at all with the food and especially with the service. Well I wasn't about to write it off just yet so I went with a friend for the second time, you would think first time was enough and I had myself to blame really. This time around the service was complete and utter shit, there was no manager or supervisor on board and this was during a working day, not full at all. I found out that the staff was under paid hotel and catering students, the staff made more time to causally talk between themselves rather than take orders. The food arrived and for the price well it was complete and utter garbage and tasted really bad. My steak was cut in half and noticeable, I asked the waitress where the rest of the steak was and after 5 minutes talking to the cooks about it comes out and had the nerve to say this is how we serve it. Take it or leave it!!!! Nice!!!! The vegetables were just thrown on by a teaspoon. I just had enough. Every time I tried to wave for a drink it was like the waitress did on purpose not want to look at the customer. Parched and dying of thirst I finally went to the bar, waited until someone finally showed up from behind the scenes and asked for overpriced water, during that time guests had enough of waiting and started to leave! I find that this restaurant really needs new management and especially better cooks, chefs who know how to serve and cook for starters. It is not worth the price tag. Tastes bad and looks bad! Want to eat high priced garbage then come to La Bonne Femme, want to eat food then avoid this place.

In Den Ouden Vogelstruys is a brown cafe with various claims to historical permanence. Take your pick 1700's...1800's...there's even a canon ball stuck in the outside facade labeled 1670. There are a half-dozen bars on this block all beckoning for your hard earned (or recently converted euros). I have sampled them all and In Den Ouden is by far my cuppa. This time I was not alone and wanted to get a second opinion. Kate was not disappointed. We ordered the 4 cheese plate (Limburger, Brie, goat cheese and bleu). Two wedges of each along with a French roll, 4 slices of fruit and nut bread, apple syrup and a salad of grapes, walnuts and rocket all for $13.50. We accompanied this with her local herbed liqueur coffee and my Le Trapp. We had anticipated this to be a simple bar snack but in fact turned into our lunch of the day. We in particular loved the paring of the apple syrup over the bleu cheese and the Brie on the fruit/nut bread. All was yummy and beautifully presented. This was a perfect meal to linger over and be thankful for your blessings. We will come back.
