El Tizok was one of those places that I came back to because it was so good. They have consistent hours of business here, which a lot of other taco places don't seem to have, they're open seven days a week 10 to midnight. You have two options for dining as you can sit outside in front of the grill or inside in their small dining area. They have a really cramped dining area with two large tables and two smaller ones. In the back you can wash your hands and use the restroom if you need it. If you like quiet places to eat, then El Tizok won't be a good option as the noise from the bus stop right outside is constant and very loud. The smell of exhaust wasn't too bad, but if that even bothers you in the slightest, you may want to eat inside. They have kitchen in the back, so you get clean plates here and silverware, none of that plastic bag stuff. Their menu (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-tizok-takos-grill-puerto-vallarta?select=Y8F8DbS76DzTUoiJWdCZXg) is a small simple legal sized piece of paper which they also offer in English if you need it. They virtually have tons of different proteins to choose from here including chicken (not very common), tongue, sasuage, stewed meats and other pork varieties. You can get them all in tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tostadas, tortas and soups. If you flip the menu over, they show you the tortilla sizes (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-tizok-takos-grill-puerto-vallarta?select=kK-1uEeNSdYWDchROvRaSw) they use here for both their corn and flour selections. They have a huge selection of sides as well including grilled onions, guacamole, charro beans, refried beans and rice.
Like any good taco place in Mexico, they serve you a platter (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-tizok-takos-grill-puerto-vallarta?select=-lgvS8Uxe1oniS4rv3ID9w) of different sauces along with some fresh veggies like cucumber and radish. The darker of the reds was my favorite, it had the most kick to it and wasn't too watery in the food. Along with the platter they give you some crisped up corn, for your sauces. At El Tizok I was able to try their tacos, burritos, beans and guacamole. The burritos (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-tizok-takos-grill-puerto-vallarta?select=dsPVrqev5Z-9B58ZuWd7Bg) in Mexico are definitely a bit different than what we have in San Diego. It turned out to be a larger flour tortilla folded in half like a big taco. Their plate of guacamole (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/el-tizok-takos-grill-puerto-vallarta?select=sr7F4mwvU7CSQLm-h7akGA) was great because they made it fresh to order along with some thick tortilla chips. If you really like beans, the charro beans were also a favorite of mine, they were stewed soft and seasoned perfectly. My favorite taco here was their birria taco, the broth they made was delicious.
I really couldn't find one bad thing at El Tizok out of the two times I tried it. All their meats were flavorful, tortillas were fresh, and the sauces were fantastic tasting. This is definitely one of the better taco places in Puerto Vallarta; it's too bad that it's quite a ways outside of the old town area because I'm sure more visitors would eat here. Even though it seemed like it was more of a locals only place, the servers here spoke pretty good English and had no issues explaining to me what was in the food on the menu. I didn't even bother asking if they took cards, but I'm quite sure it's a cash only outfit. If you're up in the northern hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta, definitely stop and give this place a try, you won't regret it.
