Another day we came by for lunch, and I had a delicious hand-tossed pizza which came out in a lopsided circle, just like pizza should. It was covered in meaty goodness, with bits of cured ham and bacon amongst the gooey cheese. I'm glad I got it to share; it was definitely too much to eat by myself! Another evening we stopped by for drinks and dessert. The bartender poured me a special liquor from his personal collection; something that was native to Schaffhausen. It was super strong (in comparison to American alcohol, of course) but good. I also ordered a crème brûlée. Since the owner knew my friends, he let me flambé the top of the dessert myself! It made for a special evening during my vacation. The ambiance of Theater Restaurant is exactly what I'd expect for a European cafe: modern yet simple, with window-side tables in the front room, a lounge bar, and a menu written on a chalkboard wall. Walked to the Raclette Factory from our hotel. Sat at a community table with a family from Argentina. They were so sweet. Their eleven year old was so animated and his parents were the sweetest. Fun to talk to them about travel, our mutual love of rollercoasters and science and the recent World Cup. The son loves Lamine Yamal. The dad is Team Messi. Our waiter, Flavio, made the evening our best choice. We really wanted to try a lot of different cheese flavors and combinations, so we had the Raclette All You Can Eat. Choose a couple of cheeses. Plain. Smoke. Garlic. Chili. White Wine. Red Wine. Blue cheese. Goat. Sheep. Truffle. Add toppings. It comes with pickles and pearl onions. Pickles and melted Raclette cheese. Unbelievably delicious. Add more toppings. Small potatoes, bread or mashed potatoes. So good! Started with the truffle and the red wine with the works, potatoes, mashed potatoes and cubes of bread. The truffle was my favorite of the cheeses and both the mashed potatoes and small potatoes were delicious. I think at the end we tried all of the cheeses but the original. We were stuffed!! Thank you to Flavio who really made our experience at the Raclette Factory a highlight of our visit to Zurich. Service was amazing and he gave us great recommendations. It was busy, and the food absolutely lived up to the hype. The veal cordon bleu was to die for, and the potato salad was honestly the best I had on the entire trip. One funny thing: the water was more expensive than the beer and soda, but that seems pretty typical in Switzerland! The restaurant itself has so much history and great atmosphere. The inside was a little loud for us, so we sat outside, which we really enjoyed. Just be prepared to share a table with another couple if you sit outside -- that's pretty common in Switzerland. I'd absolutely come back. Great food, historic charm, and such a fun local experience.

We didn't have a reservation but went right when the restaurant opened and were seated immediately. The wienerschnitzel was a thin veal cutlet that was good; we got ours with potato salad which is a popular dish and I enjoyed. The alpine macaroni is a local delicacy so I wanted to try it; it was a little more liquidy than others that I'm normally accustomed to but I still liked it. I also liked the sweet onions paired with it. It's centrally located around many popular attractions in Zurich making it a good spot to check out for lunch and dinner. Beware it can be very busy and you might have to share a table with others, and when it's busy it might help to have a reservation or you might wait a while for a seat.
