We think that this place is called Restaurant L'Aubrac (according to Google), but Yelp has the correct address, so we're just reviewing it here. We're surprised to be the first ones since it's wildly popular.
We got to Laguiole after a long drive from Provence, famished, and were happy be sat immediately in the back portion of the restaurant. We both opted for the prix-fixe lunch menu, which is a steal for 18.50 Euros and glasses of the local Aubrac (which you're allegedly supposed to drink with aligot).
We started with a salad and some charcuterie, both wonderful. For mains, we got a sausage (most traditional) and beef bourguignon...and aligot! There's a whole little ceremony that the waiter does with stretching, wrapping, and serving it. It's hard to explain what the dish is other than imagining your mashed potatoes spiked with a boatload of local French cheese. Simple, delicious, and very filling. We could only handle a few bites each before we had to stop. The sausage was great and we actually liked this version of beef bourguignon better than the one we had in Dijon since it has much more flavor (only bummer was that it was served lukewarm instead of hot). Dessert was a cherry nougat ice cream and chocolate mousse layer cake. Nuff said.
Courteous and efficient service, value, heartwarming food: we rolled out of there tres satisfied. Strongly recommend. read more
