Last night it was our second visit to Restaurant Asia. Previously I was here with her group from work and was very impressed. On the way home from a weekend with my parents we stopped here again. Again it was a fabulous experience. This restaurant is huge with high ceilings. It has a main room with the buffet in many tables as well as a smoker room, a children's playroom, and a close off room for private parties. The main attraction is a huge buffet which features not only typical Chinese dishes including hot and sour soup but also a small selection of sushi. The highlights, in my opinion, is the Mongolian barbecue section. For those not familiar, this is a buffet with raw ingredients including meats (chicken, beef, pork, lamb), seafood (diverse fish, shrimp, etc.), multiple raw vegetable items, and a multitude of sauces and condiments. You put together whatever you want, clip a clothespin with the table number on the side of the plate, and place it on the counter by the huge grill. Everything gets freshly cooked and then brought to the table. The food quality ranges from very good to excellent and the diversity of food is phenomenal. Was also impressed me was a waitress (not ours) who came to my table and marked at this time I had come alone. (She meant not with a group). I was surprised that she remembered me after one visit several months ago with so many customers. So if you want to get a good variety of Asian cuisine with a Chinese emphasis, this is the place to visit. read more

First Chinese food I had in Kaiserslautern, and was quite surprised at how good the foods were and their clean yet simple layout and decor. Duck was a little dry, but the wings, hot-n-sour soup, and their amazing mushrooms! Just had lunch, but gets my mouth watering thinking about their food! Have gone back three times after that, and will continue to go back, as I have not yet found a better Chinese food in town. read more

My experience with Restaurant Asia is mostly in the area of work-related buffet-style lunches. Typically my office will rent out of the more secluded private rooms for going aways and such. The value has always been terrific. The quality and quantity of food has never suffered, and the amount charged is very reasonable. They offer hot soups, bbq and all of the stapes of asian buffet, and their building always appears clean and well maintained. However I must say that the staff is painfully bad and trying to handle large groups in the area of payment. I have a small amount of serving experience, and give them the benefit of the doubt because it's not easy. However, their lack of organization and downright argumentative nature is not as easily excused. This problem is exacerbated with a language barrier. And I say that from personal experiences of getting shouted at by the wait staff, with no manager interjection. And on a more odd note, the front door -although very lavish and inviting- is often locked. Though you may be discouraged to go somewhere else, just drive around to the back. You'll find a huge amount of parking and a back entrance welcome to all. All-in-all not a bad place to eat. Even better with a larger group, but just be prepared to deal minor issues and cultural differences if you're not a local. An easy three, and with just a few improvements from their customer-service, a solid four. read more

Wonderful place to eat some delicious food. We went to Restaurant Asia based on the other Yelpers comments and boy were they right. The food was so good and had so much variety. There was something for everybody. I would highly recommend it to anybody. read more

Will not be coming back here.. over priced and poor quality food. They had the raw meat for the Mongolian grill right next to the fully cooked food.. some of the chicken dishes tasted like they were cooked in motor oil.. the only reason I gave it two stars is because the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. read more

Most authentic "American Chinese" buffet money can buy. At a decently cheap price. But you get what you pay for, which is to say mediocre Chinese food and terrible sushi. I can't say I particularly enjoyed any specific dish unfortunately. May give this place another chance later down the road...when I'm drunk. read more

Great lunch AYCE for 7.80 €, the price of a cocktail in some German restaurant. I love their duck. In add't, there are plenty of beef, chicken, fish, and shrimp. I have been there close to 10 times, all with excellent service. I told the owner that she should increase the price. Way too cheap for all these selections. Don't forget a high-school-student-can-do-it-Schnitzel with fries costs around 10€! Held 3 birthday parties there with everyone stuffed. BTW, the food tastes good too. read more

As promised, we went back here before we left Germany....and I did try the Mongolian BBQ. It was great. I got chicken and added garlic sauce, oyster sauce, and "asian" sauce to some onions, peppers, mushrooms, and chilies. I mixed it on a bed of fried noodles....it was delicious. I'm really glad I tried it and fresh from the grill makes a world of difference.... read more

Food was alright, best part was Mongolian grill. Not a huge selection for the sushi and the line did not have many items either. I would say for the price it is a decent place to go. I would say if you want a American style buffet this will disappoint read more

This is a wonderful restaurant with delicious and fresh food. Never been dissapointed when we went there and the person who only gave 1 star, because he/she couldn't get a hold of them for reservation, just called them at the wrong time, when they weren't open. It's our families favorite restaurant and we will be going there every time we have a reason to go, even it's on a weekday, because we don't feel like cooking. Since 2009 I was a guest in the restaurant Asia. The food was always good, the service was okay, the prices low. I've already witnessed a renovation (around 2015?), Which did not improve the ambience of the restaurant, on the contrary. BBUUUUUT After the last renovation, the restaurant Asia is like a train station hall !!! In the Unimensa it is more elegant than here !! It is incredibly loud and even in the narrowest corridor directly along the buffet are still tables where guests should sit. Incredible!! Clearly: profit greed! Not one meter is wasted. There are tables everywhere to feed the masses. The long way, past 30 tables, to the buffet makes the restaurant experience a nightmare. Self-service in the lowest level. It is like a mass processing. That's what I imagine in refugee camps, long walks, long waiting lines, small plates, and an incredible loud sound level in the entire hall. You take the drinks yourself from the fridges (beer, cheap wine, soda and water). The service staff is only for table cleaning. Unfortunately, I have to say that I will never go to eat there again, although I used to love going there before. But now you almost have to be ashamed to be seen there. read more

For one, this place feels like I was dining at CostCo. Sure I went there on Saturday. But it was just way too busy. Hence, there was a long wait for any kind of food if you were unlucky. And of course I was unlucky every time I tried to get some food. I ended up eating some chicken wings and fries. Seriously? At a Chinese restaurant? We got there at 7pm. No reservation was made. So we waited for about 20 minutes before we were seated. Then we waited for a waitress for about 15 minutes. Then we ordered what we were going to drink. By the time I had my second plate and my boyfriend waited after his first plate, we finally got the drinks, at 8pm. This was ridiculous. This wouldn't have happened if it were in the United States. The food was mediocre at best. Sure, it was better than some other places in Kaiserslautern, but that was about it. Misplaced food, food that weren't matching the labels, kids, people, long wait, loud atmosphere, all these added up quickly and I did not have a good experience eating here. My boyfriend has been here for lunch and he didn't recommend this place. But I wanted to check it out for dinner. Sure enough...I should've listened to him. But at least now I know. I would definitely avoid this place as much as I could. read more
