While it's true that I know what to expect when ordering Vietnamese fare in San Francisco I learned…read morethat doing so in Quebec City's Saint-Sauveur neighborhood is a whole different ballgame. Restaurant Jardin du Vietnam is an all-inclusive experience. Every meal here is a multi-course affair that moves from soup to appetizer plate to entree and dessert. Alcohol isn't offered but guests are welcome to BYOB and there's no corkage or other associated fees. It's fair to say that you'll leave Restaurant Jardin du Vietnam very full for a reasonable price even if what you've consumed looks nothing like your typical order from a Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco. The only decisions to be made here pertain to your choice of entree and dessert. At my table our entree orders included Poulet (chicken) Curry ($25.95CAN, and a bit one-note) and a Shrimp/Scallop dish ($32.95CAN, pristine but bland in flavor). The latter was chosen because it featured vermicelli (aka rice noodles) which are often featured in favorite Vietnamese dishes back home. But there's a silver lining here; the entire experience of the place is interesting and sort of fun and though the food wasn't my favorite version of Vietnamese fare I liked, overall, what was on offer. Several tables were filled with parties of 4, early and known to the restauranteurs, and covered with wine bottles, evidence that Restaurant Jardin has a local fan base. The restaurant itself is authentically ornate and unique to the area. And the multi-course experience is leisurely and enjoyable. Accompanied with such reasonable prices (1CAN$ = .75 US) it was easy to imagine how Restaurant Jardin could become a favorite amongst locals seeking something a bit different. It might not have been my favorite version of Vietnamese fare but I enjoyed the overall experience.

Ils les ont expulsés devant leur enfant, sans aucun respect. On n'a jamais vu un traitement aussi humiliant.

Amazing soup options from around the world! Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Lebanese, Mexican…read moreand... we had the Indian and Mexican soups. Both are full of flavor! The service is great and the atmosphere is fun. The menu includes tacos and poke and other options if you're in the mood for something other than soup. I would recommend this place on a cold day to anyone wanting to venture out of the tourist areas and stop in for a delicious meal.

We came to this location as a party of 4 on August 11, 2019 for dinner…read more We were seated fairly quickly although the restaurant seemed fairly empty. There is a patio space and more room towards the side of the restaurant. The decor is interesting with ladles hanging on the wall between bricks and the 'chairs' basically are wooden log stumps. We did notice the place was very warm - not sure if it was because their AC was not working. Anyways, we ordered 3 different soups - vietnamienne, thailandaise, and provencale. Vietnamienne - this one was pretty disappointing. I felt it was just some canned beef broth. 6 pieces of thinly sliced lean beef and rice noodles. Bean sprouts and basil on the side. For a place that boasts its soups, this broth wasn't very flavorful and the beef was kind of tough despite it being thinly sliced. Also the broth wasn't particularly hot when it came to our table. 2/5 - don't get this is you have had legit pho, you'll just be sad. Thailandaise - this one was okay, had a hint of coconut, slight amount of spiciness and a little bit of lemongrass and ginger. If you're looking for that exciting bold Tom yum, this is more of a muted version in terms of flavors. Comes with rice noodles and some small shrimp - maybe 6 pieces. 3/5 - it's okay, higher if you prefer your Tom yum soup more subtle. Provencale - we got a large for this one, it really is a lot bigger, almost double the amount of broth probably. This was probably the best of the 3 - had tasty white fish, some mussels, potatoes and tomatoes in the broth. Flavorful but nothing that stands out that would make me want to come back. 3/5. Service is good - the young lady was pretty quick with taking our order, bringing us cutlery and requests for smaller bowls and checked in with our table appropriately. Price is pretty expensive given what you get. I'm pretty sure I could get more flavorful noodle soups at a cheaper price. Okay place to try but not something I'd go out of my way for.
