Thinking it may have been a language issue, we spoke to the hotel receptionist, who said the restaurant wasn't closed (as per the hours here, which state it's open until 11 pm). They called and conferred with the restaurant, and ultimately we were told that the restaurant was "full." After we were turned away, we saw another family of four leaving the dining area. I'm guessing this had something to do with the fact that we're brown, as I noticed someone staring at us out of the window as we walked away. The inside was tastefully decorated with white tablecloths and candles, though we did not feel too underdressed in jeans. Waiter was very nice and tried very hard to speak English. We ordered beef sous vide and some kind of river or lake fish with creamy tarragon sauce and asparagus. Both were divine. Desserts were a bit odd, hot cheese dumplings with cold plum sauce and a poppyseed cake with strawberry sauce (again cold). Very different and interesting for our American tastes. At any rate, one of the best meals we've had in Austria.
