This place is totally worth the visit! Especially if you are just randomly passing by or visiting for a couple days and want to make your visit more special. If you are active and healthy, make sure to put your tennis shoes on and hike it up (about an hour and a half). If you want to opt out for the easy option - take a chairlift that will bring you almost all the way up. But I can guarantee you that the food (and beer) will not taste as good if you do not work for it by hiking the hill up on your own! They do not offer many dishes, but everyone (even vegetarians) can find something on their menu which mostly consists of traditional Czech meals. I recommend starting with one of their soups - if you like cheese and do not mind if it has a peculiar smell, then you should not omit an opportunity to have "česnekačka s tvarůžkem" (garlic soup with special Czech stinky cheese) or if you like legumes - go for their čočková or fazolová (lentil or bean soups). As for the second, I like their fried cheese and if you are like me and are not the biggest fan of french fries, you can ask for a substitution of those with cooked potatoes or something else. If you like refreshing soft drinks, try traditional Czech soda - Kofola! If you are into beers, they have great beers from Litovel brewery. My favorite beer from them is called "černý citron" which is dark, weaker and very refreshing citrusy tasting beer! Definitely recommend trying this one out, but I have to give you a warning that it is quite difficult to only stick to one! Na zdraví!

As you can see in the photos, it was very empty when we arrived, which was good. (We attempted a second visit later that week on a Saturday and we were turned away so be sure to make reservations on the weekend.) We had a few pints of beer and an order of the fried cheese and schnitzel, both very good. Fries were not very good but the butter potatoes (emphasis on the butter) were quite good though too filling since I focused on the slab of meat first. Outside, you have a nice view of people walking along and a Subway across the alley which is comical and unappetizing. Service was fast and efficient. Having come from Orange County, I understood that my gauge of "friendly service" had to be adjusted when in Czech, sort of like when you go to any Chinese restaurant anywhere in the world, including China. Bathrooms are clean. Dining area is very well-lit and attractive. Bar area seating is comforting. Menus available in English. Being my first time in Czech Republic and having a focus on beer and fried food, I was happy to make my way to Puor Zlin. I asked if I could be a tourist and take home a coaster. The bartender was kind enough to give me a stack of new ones from the back. One of our servers, a young girl, turned up at Budvarka down the street later that week when we attempted to dine at Puor Zlin on that busy Saturday night. She was consistently attentive both times. Both the server and bartender noticed that I spoke English and my friend spoke Czech, so when they came to our table, they spoke English to me and Czech to him which was nice. Is the food special? I'm not sure if I'm qualified to answer that question, but my friend who was born and raised in Czech most of his life said it was good and if anything, accurate. That said, I enjoyed the food and the service so take that for what it's worth. Point on Service: Culturally, it's rude to talk when you eat so be aware that they will leave you alone while you're eating. Don't misinterpret this as poor service. Point on Tipping: I understand that Czech is not a tipping country but things are changing so you won't insult anyone by leaving a modest tip, but 20% might not be necessary.

Zlin is not a highly sought out place…read morefor tourists, so this restaurant is more frequented by the people who know how good Pilsner Urquell is. This restaurant is by the same owners as the Pilsner Urquell Original Restaurant (PUOR Zlin) just a couple blocks away. Budvarka is an attempt at a more elevated menu and atmosphere as compared to the bar/pub model at PUOR. The food is good though always changing which is great for a new restaurant in development. The service is about the same as in PUOR but you're more focused on your food and drink anyway so just tip well if you're so inclined and enjoy your stay. Classics such as fried cheese and schnitzel were good and comforting. Beers are great and give a nice taste of variety as compared to the taps at PUOR. Dining area is absolutely beautiful with light hardwoods and a huge open viewing area of the beer room. Noise level can get a bit high as popularity grows but it's something you'd expect at a place like this. Businesses like this are sprouting up around Zlin to meet the needs and demands of the growing younger population who are learning that there is more out there to try, so I imagine Budvarka will continue to evolve over the coming months/years and I am curious to see the changes every time I fly in.

I can't stand the taste or the thought of eating it, though at this meal I didn't like the taste without knowing why. I suspect that my take on the cabbage is probably different from most people's, so if you are a lard-lover, this would probably be a great meal. It was halfway for me. I'm also not a beer drinker, so I can't review that. But you CAN eat the atmosphere, so go!!

Plastic place mats, tavern themed art, and a rustic olde world feel. It's perfect for an area with uneven stone and brick roadways that are best enjoyed with sturdy shoes or boots. There is also an outdoor patio for al fresco dining when the weather permits. The meal was tasty but the starter bread was just okay. There were two types offered: soft rye and breadsticks. The breadsticks were as dry as a bone and I couldn't bring myself to taste one but the rye bread was soft and delicious. I would have preferred butter with the bread but it turned out that the rye bread was quite tasty on its own. The roasted rabbit with red and white cabbage was delicious and I would order this again. It was #42 on the menu and should have come with a "variety of dumplins" but since I also ordered a side of boiled potatoes, the server must have thought I wanted the potatoes *instead* of the dumplings. Not true. I wanted both! Anyway, the rabbit was perfectly roasted and seasoned. The cabbage was unlike any cabbage I've ever tasted. I actually ordered the side of boiled potatoes expecting some lame cabbage concoction to be staring back at me from my plate. Instead, I saw two thick, gravy-like preparations on my plate: one a rich purpley-red and the other creamy white. They were sweet and favorful and the perfect complement to the roasted rabbit. The svickova was delicious. The bread dumplings were soft and thick and the gravy was scrumptious. Service was just okay and although we spoke English since I hadn't yet downloaded my Google offline Czech translator, both servers did their best to speak to us in English. However, the menu includes 4 translations for every item which is extremely helpful. My one complaint would be my missing "variety of dumplins" and my missing server for nearly the entire meal. I wanted to ask about my dumplings but our server didn't return until we had finished our meals. Overall, I would say that the food was close to 4 stars but the service may have been lacking...possibly due to a language barrier. I'll take the service on the chin since I don't speak Czech and round the entire rating up to 4 stars.
