There is a great sign to warn that there is a rest area ahead and I was looking forward to it, but there's almost nothing at this small parking area along US 82 in Loco Hills between Lovington and Artesia.
While it is at least off the road by about 30 feet or so, there is nothing here except three covered picnic tables and some trash cans. No toilet facility, not even a portable one. A barbed wire fence prevents people from easily wandering too far into the desert oil field adjacent.
It's a good spot to pull over and stretch your legs, but you're not spending any significant time in this rest stop. A compelling sign warns parents to "supervise your children" as the New Mexico DOT is not liable for injuries and accidents. I'm not sure what that means.
