I counted three or four staff members actively tending to the place--grass being cut here, hedges trimmed there, a trash can getting emptied like it owed someone money. There's a clear, ongoing effort to keep things tidy, and it shows. Dog owners will appreciate the nicely shaded walking area. When we passed through, a couple was out enjoying the weather with their Shelties, living their best roadside life. There are also a few picnic tables for those who prefer to turn a pit stop into a proper pause. Now, the building itself... let's just say it's rocking a bit of a "vintage charm." From the outside, it feels dated compared to some of the more modern rest areas along I-65. Inside, it's clean--but again, definitely due for a facelift. There's a noticeable disinfectant aroma in the air. Whether that's reassuring or a little aggressive depends on your perspective, but hey--at least you know they're trying. A freshly mopped floor (thoughtfully cordoned off) confirmed that cleanliness is taken seriously. The men's and women's facilities are located on opposite sides, each with what appears to be two sections. In the men's room, the faucets are... adventurous. Instead of a smooth stream, you get a dozen tiny jets firing off like a synchronized water show. Functional? Yes. Elegant? Not so much. If you're feeling snacky, there are several surprisingly well-stocked vending machines--perfect for a quick grab, assuming you're okay with highway pricing doing its thing. At the end of the day, this rest area fulfills its core mission: a reliable, clean stop when nature calls. It's not going to win any design awards, but it gets the job done. A little modernization would go a long way--but in the meantime, it's a solid pit stop when you need it most.

These rest areas serve as important...well, rest areas for travelers and truckers. Those in the trucking industry say the for-profit truck stops off of many intersections are often full and sometimes come with baggage in the form of illicit drugs or illicit activity. There's also the pressure of paying for services even if you don't intend to walk in and use the facilities. With these rest areas being in fairly remote areas off of interstates, these also serve as important points so truckers can rest. Or travelers can switch drivers without having to do a Chinese Fire Drill on the interstate. The amenities here are your basic rest area stuff (federal law prohibits the sale of goods, though there is a carve out for vending machines). Restrooms are clean and drinking fountains are available if you need to refill your water bottle. There is a good amount of green space if you traveled with your dog and he's bouncing off the car walls and needs to stretch his legs. There are 2017 maps if you want to go retro or learn how to read a map. And there is an office for the attendant in what I assume is only occupied 9-5 Monday through Friday. Why did I take off one star? The bottled water cost $2. I know, I know...captive audience. But I can imagine buying in bulk the state of Indiana could get a slightly cheaper price if they tried.

We called several times to confirm that we had an executive suite for three days. When we got there we learned that they had lost our reservation even though we had a confirmation email on our phone. They had two small rooms available for one night. Since they messed up so bad they gave them to us for free. When it came to the other two nights they said we're on our own. The small rooms they gave us were probably the worst rooms in the building. The tv remote didn't have battery's neither did the tv work. We also had a great view out our windows of a staircase. We had booked one of the nicest rooms in the building so giving us the shittiest was unacceptable in my opinion. I can not recommend this hotel to any one because they do not take reservations seriously. Now we are 3000 miles from home in a shitty hotel room for one night out of three that we need. Don't stay here. Update: Some one did not check in to their room the next day so we were able to stay in it. They did give us a %15 discount. Although this room was much nicer it was still not the one we reserved. On top of all this I was not allowed to use any of the hotels amenities because I was part of a conference. When I asked the front desk about this they said I should have cool access to the gym, pool, basketball court, etc. When I went to the gym John denied me access because I was part of a conference. I thought the whole purpose of this hotel was to accommodate people in conferences. Instead he told me I was only allowed in the gym from 1-3. Most people work out in the morning not from 1-3. Don't fall for the advertisements on their website that state access to a pool or gym. Right now this is a hotel with no amenities just a room and a lobby. Who wants to stay in a hotel with no amenities? Thankfully I was able to go up the second floor and sneak past John and come back down a staircase. So if you are looking for a hotel that takes reservations seriously and has a gym or pool this is not the hotel for you.

Our tent-friendly campsite was nice, though and everyone I interacted with in the office was friendly. There was a small band playing live music in the campground pavilion the night we were there. I don't know if this was because it was a holiday weekend, but it was a great surprise. Think the only confusion I had pulling up to the hotel was there were no sign directing to turn down the alleyway to the half-circle driveway to check-in. Significance is it gets your vehicle off the busy road way. Upon walking in, the hotel is spacious open lobby. I almost wasn't sure which direction to go in for check-in. Speaking of check-in, it is seamlessly easy and quick. From the lobby to the room, all walkways are well lit and visually inviting. Both elevators seem to be in great working condition, didn't have no bad smell to them, and had the key pad needed to use to get to your room floor (added peace of mind in regards to security). Upon entry into the room, you walk into the kitchenette area. It has a full size refrigerator, well laid out countertop with the necessities for meal prep and eating. You also walk past the bathroom, which I appreciate the doorway to not facing the bed. That bathroom has the updated LED mirror, spacious shower stall (think like 6 people could fit in), and the body soap and shampoo dispensers on the wall. The shower water was the perfect level of hotness. I mean I had to turn it down from the highest. After scoping out the bathroom, the bed area is next. It butts up to the bathroom wall facing the TV and window. They did a fabulous job laying this area out with the desk, couch, and TV. It all flows and makes sense with placement. Bed is comfortable but the pillows are too soft IMO. The window facing the bed wasn't a concern because it had the roll-up blackout curtain, that actually blocked sunlight from entering the room. I hate I only got to enjoy a a single night here. But happy I choose to stay here, it was perfect for what I needed it for, and that was resetting and recouping. From that, I highly recommend staying here if passing through Louisville.
