Let me describe our story and the way we were served…read more The arrival day. Despite calling one hour earlier to inform the key holder about the time of the arrival no one was waiting for us. The man arrived after two reminder phone calls. After several hours of driving we were forced to wait another 30minutes in the car. We rung to remind that we are waiting and the lady called Gertrude nearly shouting at us told us to wait there. Without any introduction or welcoming the man took the deposit of 500EUR plus additional 10EUR for cards etc. No explanation was given. In the flat. I was surprised and disappointed as for 1557EUR weekly rent there was no: Internet or baby sleeping arrangement. No mentioning simple things such as toilet paper in one of the toilets, no hands soap, washing liquid, dishwasher tablets. We had to supply all of the above items ourselves. We were given one parking permit for 2 cars, we were told to look for the car park elsewhere. There was a dirty sock left behind in one of the bedrooms by previous holiday makers. Despite informing about young baby arriving there was no cot for a Little One. Sunday (2nd day). In the evening we released the TV was broken. The second one was also not working. The key holder Gertrude did not answer our phone calls. When the telephone was finally picked up the lady asked us to wait for the cable man. Gertrude literally told us to come back at 5pm and wait for the TV engineer! After minutes of negotiations when we told her we are on holidays the woman agreed to make the appointment with the engineer without us staying at the flat. Condition of the flat. Broken door glass. Broken towel rack in the bathroom. Loose handle on the shower door. Shower hoses were broken. Absolute filth and stinking also of cigarettes toilet. Kitchen utilities were mostly broken and not complete. Frying pans were stripped of Teflon coming of it which health hazard. Departure day. On the departure day, there was 8am set for the key holder to pick up the key and return the deposit. We got up very early to be ready for the place to be returned. We had to wait until 9 o'clock and Gertrude just showed the worst ever customer service. She told us to shut up when we complained that we have to leave. She told us we are not getting the deposit back and on the way up to the flat she accused us of the broken items. It looked like she was preparing to punish us for our demanding of time keeping in the way of holding of the deposit for the condition of the flat she hasn't seen yet. When we got into the flat she knew exactly where to go to show us the broken items. It was like it was set up on us to blame straight away. She then locked herself in the flat and did not want us to get back in. In addition to that she ripped out the deposit payment receipt from my hand and did not want to return it until we rung the police. Only then gave it back to us. The cleaner Gertrude, her husband and her team are the worst kind of people to run the business. They cannot clean the place, keep the times agreed and are rude beyond believe. I cannot also believe that we paid 180 EUR for the cleaning. We were outside and the cleaners finished in 50 minutes. Then they left. Deposit refund On the top of things we waited for our deposit for 2 month and we only got 300 EUR as Alpen Apartments kept 200EUR for hovering the carpet. It was actually left cleaner than it was on the arrival. Alpen Apartments also complained to us that they have to pay the bank transfer fee! We live in the UK and had to pay the same when booking was made. It was very sad ending of the holiday. We would not advise anybody to use Alpen Apartments

Palazzo Odoni Location: A+ What a great location in the lagoon. After arriving at Marco Polo Airport, my husband and I took the ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma, walking to Palazzo Odoni took less than five minutes. Similarly, when we checked out of Palazzo Odoni and walked to the train station, we also had a five-minute walk. I loved the courtyard entrance into Palazzo Odoni. When entering the courtyard before walking up the stairs, you would never know that you're in a city with hundreds of people outside. The courtyard was so quiet that I could have heard a pin drop. Palazzo Odoni Staff: A+ I emailed Palazzo Odoni about a week prior to my arrival in Venice to inquire about making reservations for lunch at Enoteca ai Artisti after I experienced problems contacting the restaurant via phone. Alberto at Palazzo Odoni was very kind to call the restaurant on my behalf and schedule a reservation for us. (By the way, that restaurant was incredible!) Alessandro was very helpful with giving us directions and advice on getting around the city. We arrived about 45 minutes before our room was ready, and he provided us coffee on the house during our wait. One more note about the staff: Palazzo Odoni also comes with a hotel dog. That's an A+ no matter what. Palazzo Odoni Rooms: A+ Our room was small and quaint but very clean and lovely. The view from the room and bathroom were wonderful! The Venetian-themed decor was pretty and very fitting for the whole building. Our room was quiet, and we slept very well. Palazzo Odoni Food: A+ The breakfast at Palazzo Odoni was incredible! The croissants and small pastries were fresh and delicious. Also available were meats, cheeses and fruits, which were also fantastic. Even the morning coffee was wonderful. Everything about Palazzo Odoni -- the convenient location, courteous staff, Maffy, the wonderful rooms and the great food -- made our stay in Venice absolutely perfect. If and when I return to Venice, Palazzo Odoni will be my one and only choice for a hotel. I absolutely recommend it.

This place could be so much more... Let me start off by…read moresaying that this was not my first time in Venice, so I am very familiar with Canal and Venice life. Also, it's not my first time at a Residence style apartment, so we knew what to expect. We spent 3 nights in Venice before joining a cruise. We wanted a residence style apartment because we enjoy going to the local stores, buying fresh meats, cheeses, breads, and olives for breakfasts. A great way to taste the local fare. The building has a rich history, rooms are nicely decorated and spacious. HOWEVER!! What is not mentioned on the website, is that you climb 48 steps to get to the hotel entrance. Fine for us, but I saw several guests for the Residence and Hotel (same place, by the way) that were struggling to bring their luggage up and down. The attendant front desk to the Hotel, which shares the hallway as the Residence, refuses to help in any way. This was explained beforehand, however a friend that was traveling with us got a small cut on his arm from one of their glass lamps while checking in, and asked the attendant for a tissue to stop the bleeding. The man said no, because my friend wasn't a guest at the hotel portion. Shame. Also, in our apartment, there were 2 air-conditioning and heating units. Neither one worked. It was 85 during the day during our stay, and the sun heats up the rooms quite a bit, so at night it was miserably hot. So, the first night, we had the windows open to let the cool air in. We had a canal facing room, and EVERYTHING echoes up and down the canal, including boat noises, travelers and locals walking, talking, laughing, and singing. We finally closed the windows at 2AM and sweated the night out. And for the next 2 nights as well. Our friend's apartment didn't have a working air-conditioner either, nor did the 2 German girls next to us. All said it was too hot to sleep comfortably. Now let's talk cleanliness. I have included pictures. The air vent in the bathroom had a thick layer of dust. So did all the furniture not at waist height, such as the coat racks. There were stains on the wall from spilt wine from a previous guest that never was cleaned. The curtains were torn, and smelled of cigarette smoke. The floor between the living room and bedroom had chunks taken out of the concrete, and when you walk past, you step on little concrete pebbles. The place really needed a good cleaning. When you want someone to clean the room, you leave a note on the door, otherwise they don't come. This is fine, except when they do come, all they do is make the bed and empty trash. No clean towels, no clean sheets, no replacement of soap. My wife went to complain, but there was nobody in the Residence office, which was most of the time. So, she talked to the Hotel attendant (remember, they are separate, yeah right), and he thankfully went to the hall closet and got fresh supplies for us. This same Hotel attendant also came to our room at 9:00 PM, the night before we were due to leave, and said that Michele, the owner, sent him to collect the money for the rooms. Unbelievable. Michele, please put some effort into the Apartments. Like I said, this please could be awesome, but it failed.
