As a healthcare provider myself, this experience was deeply frustrating and, frankly, unacceptable for a clinic providing fertility care. I asked multiple times for a clear explanation of how my baseline ultrasound was considered accurate despite being performed outside the standard timing in my cycle. This is a basic, reasonable question--especially when making significant medical and financial decisions like egg freezing. Not once did anyone provide an actual answer or explain what protocol was used. Instead of addressing the issue, I was told I could repeat the ultrasound--but only if I paid for it again. Offering a paid redo without ever explaining or standing behind the initial assessment is not patient care, it's avoidance. What stood out most was the complete lack of transparency and accountability. I felt dismissed, unheard, and as though my questions were treated as a nuisance rather than a normal part of being an informed patient. Patients deserve clear explanations and confidence in their care. That simply did not happen here. If you're the kind of patient that asks questions, expect resistance not answers. I ultimately chose to leave this clinic and take my care elsewhere. I would strongly caution others who expect open communication and thoughtful, patient-centered care. read more

The billing department and insurance claim department is the worst and very unprofessional. I sent out couple emails to explain what's going on how they did wrong with my claims and how they can correct it to receive the payment. I also confirmed with my insurance company, how to do it, what they did was wrong. Our previous clinic got all the payment without any problems. But RSC just keep doing the wrong thing and said it's denied. I already paid upfront, and waiting for the insurance claims to be settled so RSC can reimburse me. But this never happens. I am very disappointed. I already succeeded a cycle. Now I am thinking for future fertility preservation, I should consider different places. read more

The whole fertility process is already hard enough - no one needs a receptionist acting like booking an appointment is some huge favor. Dr. Reid at RSC was fantastic, took a data and science based approach, and helped our family so much.

DO NOT FILL OUT FORMS ONLINE -- they are not secure and are either selling patient information to marketing agencies or are inadvertantly sharing to bad actors. I started getting phishing emails after filling out content on their site. It's a lot of personal info to mishandle. Also, hey take months to even call you back after you fill out tons of forms on their site. Recently after calling in person a few times and talking with a live person and getting told that my call would be returned right away, I never got called back. It would be awful to go through such a rigorous process with a response rate like theirs -- they are either way too busy or operationally incompetent. I'd hesitate to trust any medical procedure to this organization. read more

We had our first daughter, who is a healthy 3-year-old toddler now, and are expecting another girl in 2 months thanks to RSC. We had two healthy embryos after pre-genetic screening (PGS) with IVF 4 years ago. We transferred one embryo, which became our first daughter. We came back for the transfer of the remaining embryo, and I am 7 months pregnant now. We've been probably particularly lucky, but this is also due to RSC's top-notch expertise; when I checked the IVF success rate at the SART website, RSC had one of the best rates in the Bay area. I'm so thankful to Dr Willman, who was my original doctor but retired, Dr Reid, my current doctor, Ms Laura Rueckheim, my nurse case manager, and Ms Christina, who did several ultrasounds for me. Not only did both doctors communicate well but also showed warm bedside manners. Ms Laura checked in very thoroughly during IVF process, making sure that I had all the medications ready in time. I had massive bleeding a couple of times in my first trimester. Every time it happened, RSC took me for an ultrasound immediately and assured me the fetus is growing well. Once I broke into tears in front of Ms Christina, because I had almost mistaken it as miscarriage but she showed the baby is growing beautifully through ultrasound with supportive words. Another advantage of RSC is that they have multiple offices throughout the Bay area. I first started at Orinda office in the East bay and was able to continue treatment at Los Gatos and Foster city office after moving to the South bay. read more

If only there was a zero star option! Thankfully, the doctor with whom my wife and I initially dealt is leaving RSC in a few months. Maybe that's why she had no bedside manner, was condescending, and did not seem attuned or empathetic to our fertility journey--she was on her way out. Regardless, RSC functions like a puppy mill: get as many vulnerable people into the clinic as possible, overload them with information, up-sell them on IVF, take their money, and repeat. Trust me when I tell you, you will feel like a number and not a human being. My visits to RSC were some of the most degrading experiences of my life, and I am part of a minority group! The departments do not appear to communicate with each other (from the doctors to billing and beyond); and thus, RSC runs in a very inefficient manner. Aside from the initial visit, you will have no contact with your actual doctor. That's right, the person who is supposed to have all this fertility expertise does not care to interact with his or her puppies--I mean patients. RSC claims to be LGBTQ friendly, but they are not. Not only were my wife and I treated as separate people, rather than as a legitimate family and couple, the staff mixed up our medical information, including charts, more than once. This does not build confidence in RSC being able to transfer the correct embryos or sperm or anything really if they so carelessly mix up files of gay people. The staff also never once asked us how we wanted to be referred to--calling us partners nonstop even though we are married and said we refer to each other as wives--but called the straight couples husband and wife without a thought. Currently, we are dealing with being financially gouged by RSC. Be warned, this is probably RSC's biggest area of corruption. They are ever so happy to swipe your credit card, but do not provide you with itemized receipts or the insurance claim breakdown. After calling my insurance company, I realized that RSC was trying to get money from us that our insurance company already paid to them. In addition, RSC told me a procedure was not fully covered by insurance, when in fact, the procedure was 100% covered and I should not have paid any portion out of pocket. If you want an impersonal, money-gouging fertility experience, RSC is the place. If, however, you want a compassionate, positive, ethical, and informative family building experience, look elsewhere. UPDATE: RSC is utterly incompetent and clearly homophobic. My wife received yet another faulty bill in the mail today after RSC claimed to have removed this amount from our account and "cleared things up." The newest bill we received says that we are "past due" and that "collection efforts" will be next. Our insurance already paid RSC for the procedure in full (I sent them evidence already). We do NOT owe RSC any money. I had the exact same procedure using the exact same insurance and our insurance covered the entire cost. Is it really that hard to figure out because we are a two women family?! Apparently, RSC is fine committing unethical and fraudulent actions against people of the LGBTQ community. Some things are just meant to be and I feel that way so much about Dr. Reid and the journey we went on together to create our children. From the moment we met Dr. Reid in our consultation in March 2019, I knew we were in good hands, and the right hands. There are good doctors and there are good doctors that you have an immediate connection with, and my husband and I both walked away from our initial meeting knowing that we had found the right person and place for us to go through IVF with. I'll spare you the details, but our IVF adventure was not always the smoothest, for reasons out of Dr. Reid's control. But through every high, and especially the lows, Dr. Reid (and my case manager Marlen) were both so amazingly supportive and convinced that we would end up with a healthy baby. Even through disappointments along the way, my husband and I never wavered on truly believing Dr. Reid was making the right calls for us. She answered every question we had, gave me reassurance when I was feeling hopeless, and celebrated with us when we got pregnant finally! The level of care we received from Dr. Reid, Marlen, and the RSC staff was truly unparalleled on all fronts - from simple office visits to every bigger procedure. They were always SO fast and efficient in answering questions over email too - so good, in fact, that I actually had to get used to not hearing back immediately when I "graduated" from IVF and went to my regular OB for the rest of my pregnancy. You truly get spoiled at RSC with how much time and effort they invest in making sure you have answers and results right away. Dr. Reid and Marlen will surely be who I turn to when I'm ready for my next pregnancy. I already told my husband that even if we decided to move away before then, we're coming back to work with them regardless -- that's how much we value and love Dr. Reid and Marlen. read more

'Nope but that's who made you possible'. Thank you Dr. Wachs and RSC technology for our miracle baby. I had 7 years of heartbreak trying to make a baby. Month after month, I regretted putting my career first, delaying marriage, feeling empty about life's purpose. Familiar? We spent tens of thousands of dollars on medical assistance. With Kaiser, I had a terrible IVF experience with a Dr. without any bedside manner who was always rushed, impatient, and stern. Dr. Wachs from our first meeting was caring, meticulous and attentive. I was receiving more erroneous and extraneous and false bills on monthly basis so i actually asked for billin personnel to send me a typed and signed letter clearly stating that my balance has been cleared and should have been zero balance for past 6 months. Less than a week after receiving the signed letter i received yet another false bill. Lmao!!!! Ten yrs from now I probably will still be getting incorrect and false bills asking for more money. Dr. Reid was very honest, upfront, and knowledgeable. I wanted to inquire about the egg freezing process and she really put me at ease. We looked at my ovarian reserve supply and she assured me there is no rush. I'm 30 and I was starting to worry I may be running out of my time. I'm a planner, plus I wasn't sure if I would have issues down the road. We ended up saving a lot of money. She explained everything thoroughly by drawing everything out and answering our questions. Had an amazing experience with Dr. Reid freezing my eggs but the office staff, particularly in the billing department does not care and lacks any kind of urgency to work with people with providers like Carrot. I was part of a layoff and prepaid for egg freezing using my benefit. Got in touch with billing and said they would send info directly to carrot- they never did and my benefits lasps. $7000 worth of egg freezing down the drain because of the incompetent employee working in billing. I have emailed them through the portal 4 times with no reply over 3 weeks and spoke to someone over the phone who had broken promises saying this would be taken care of but never did. Instead of replying to my voicemails, emails... they sent me a bill for my egg storage. read more

If I could rate them zero stars I would. During a time/process that is already stressful, RSC has found a way to make it even worse with their billing practices. They do not provide receipts for online payments, and after requesting a detailed ledger of all costs and applied payments, they have been unable to produce a ledger that actually adds up mathematically. But each time find a way to ask for more money and change costs/numbers around for the exact same dates and procedures on the previous ledger to justify their new asks. I have 3 ledgers in a 2 week period that are all completely different numbers, yet exact same services and service dates. And each ledger "mysteriously" is missing a payment that is on the previous ledger. And these ledgers are just editable excel spreadsheets....very questionable. I have tried many times to get an explanation line by line of each charge and how payment was applied, and cannot get an explanation from them. I'm told they are escalating it...someone will be in touch. But nothing. Latest update is they are sending a letter in the mail! They will respond to my review and say their director will be reaching out, and that is solely to save face publically. As others have pointed out, there will be no follow up or explanation, nor are they motivated to because they have your money or your embryos, so there is nothing you can do. If you value you own mental health, I highly suggest you avoid RSC at all costs and go somewhere else. read more

Really frustrating. My experience is very similar to the reviewer, "R R." I completed the online form -- week went by, no response. I called today and was on hold for 10 minutes before it went to voicemail. Called back again -- same thing. Hold... voicemail. Repeat, twice. Finally, got someone on the phone, who transferred me to the receptionist. Call gets forwarded to voicemail which says, "due to call volume, it will take two business days to get a call back." As a Lesbian couple, my wife and i were trying to conceive through IUI. We tried for a while with an excellent midwife and later decided to try IVF. Our midwife recommended RSC and Dr. Reid. We've never been happier. Dr. Reid was amazing - she guided us every step of the way. During our first visit she took the time to talk to us, we never felt rushed, and she was incredibly informative. She went over all my wife's previous labs, the reasons why we might be having trouble conceiving and all the options we have available to us. She was calm, kind, non-judgemental and never made us feel overwhelmed (which in prior experiences at other fertility places, we had very much felt so). We decided to start off with two rounds of IUI with Clomid. After each failed attempt she would also take the time to talk to us to go over our options and we always felt like we had a choice on how to move forward. Because of our particular situation, we decided that doing IVF with a shared pregnancy would be our best chance (and it was!). Dr. Reid again, took her time to sit with us, describe the entire scenario, set real expectations and always made us feel like we three were a team together. Coordinating an IVF cycle is hard enough - coordinating a shared pregnancy is much harder - Dr. Reid and her awesome team/case managers, guided us, were extremely responsive, were positive and we successfully got through it. Our first IVF cycle worked, my wife is now 9 weeks pregnant. We had our first prenatal visits with Dr. Reid and every single one felt like magic. She was so happy for us, and we felt it. We felt like we'd accomplished our goal and the feeling was light and celebratory. She was true to form and took her time describing the entire process, what we should be looking for, what to expect, etc... We wish we could continue our pregnancy with Dr. Reid (we miss her and the RSC VERY MUCH). We HIGHLY recommend her and her awesome staff for any infertility issues, or if you're an LGBT couple wanting to conceive. My wife and i never felt like aliens with her or anyone at the RSC - they've even taken the time to make sure the paperwork reflects every couple out there. They're an amazing group and we love them! read more

Update: RSC must have contacted yelp to remove my review. I am an actual patient that saw Dr. Reid and her RN on 8/23/16. Saw Dr Reid for ultrasound on 8/23/16. I think I know why this place has such bad reviews. She spent a total of 30 seconds in the room with me, 5 seconds measuring my lining, which cost me $310. This was the most unprofessional and sloppy ultrasound exam I have ever had. RSC your success rates suck and so does your doctors. read more

I cannot sing the praises of Dr. Reid & the staff at Reproductive Science Center enough. Dr. Reid is so kind, knowledgeable, and thorough. She always took as much time as needed for appointments and made me feel comfortable. IVF is a stressful process. Dr. Reid, my case manager Laura, and the rest of the staff were right there with me through the entire process. I'm now 10.5 weeks along and can't thank RSC enough for the gift of becoming a mother. read more

More than 2 weeks have passed but I have not heard from them. As I'm having a fertility problem I don't want to wast my time just waiting on making an appointment and we have moved on. Everyone at this office is professional and respectful. We tried to have a baby for 7 years before coming to RSC we had gone through many infertility treatments and none were successful. Dr. Sara Reid helped us by looking at us with fresh eyes and was very compassionate and knowledgeable. She never pushed us to do any treatments that we were not comfortable with doing. She listened to me and helped me out the way I wanted to go forward and not just do expensive treatments. Because of her we have a beautiful baby girl. Thank you so much for everything! The office is beautiful and has some great online services available for education and to make patient information more accessible. I also loved that I was able to schedule appointments at any of the centers in the area if I couldn't find the time spot I was looking for in Foster City. Truly, as good as it gets. Dr. Sara Pittenger-Reid and RN Laura Rueckheim are absolute stars. Our case was extremely challenging and as a result we consulted with, and/or received treatment from, more than a dozen practitioners in the course of our treatment. This includes pretty much EVERY clinic in the Bay Area, plus several clinics across the US - and even international clinics. So to say that Dr. Reid and Nurse Laura are #1 means they made it to the top of a pretty competitive heap of the very best IVF talent in the world. We finally had success at this clinic, but even more importantly were treated with extreme respect and sensitivity. The entire operation was first class all the way. We also saw other doctors associated with the clinic for certain parts of our care, including Dr.'s Wachs, Sgarlata and Willman - and every single practitioner displayed the same level of sensitivity, caring and competence, so we really felt we were in the very best of hands. Some supporting details: 1) Chains can have advantages. The Foster City office is part of the national chain of Reproductive Science Centers. While "chain" often translates to lower-quality, assembly-line service, this was anything but the case in our experience, and in fact we saw some major advantages. One - they are able to pool clinical data from ALL of their locations...more data = more evidence-based treatment options. Two - you can receive monitoring at any of their satellite locations. Monitoring is time-sensitive...we found as commuters that having different location options was essential. Downside: surgical procedures are ONLY performed in San Ramon, but since these less frequent, we found it wasn't a big deal to get a hotel room overnight in the area. Also, there are multiple doctors in the practice, which again, means sometimes for time-critical procedures you may need to be OK with a different doctor - but it also means that you have more options and will not get jammed into a schedule that is more convenient for a solo practitioner but less optimal for your body. 2) Attention to office environment. The office itself is nice. Clean, well-appointed, spacious and calm. When you are in a highly charged emotional state, which you will be if you are struggling with infertility, you appreciate this. (Note: the San Jose office isn't as nice). 3) Overall staff quality. Every single person we had the opportunity to interact with - from the front desk to the back office and everything between, displayed a much higher than average level of knowledge, responsiveness, and caring. We cannot say the same thing for MANY other offices we had the opportunity to interact with, who had overworked and confused staff, disastrous scheduling mixups, loss of private medical records, language issues, downright rudeness, lack of interest, and total lack of sensitivity. 4) World-class treatment. Dr Reid and Nurse Laura were 100% in our corner and were willing to work with us. At other facilities we heard things like "you have NO chance!" or "there is only one way of doing things here." Our caregivers listened attentively to our concerns, outlined options, and were willing to consider treatment plans outside the "standard" ones. On the flip side, they were also careful to steer us away from areas they thought had no solid scientific evidence and were likely to be expensive dead-ends. 5) They answer the phone (or call you back, promptly)! It seems obvious. Sadly at many other facilities, it's not. 6) Coordination with acupuncture. We can't prove that it made us successful, but having direct access to onsite acupuncture, coordinated with the procedures, definitely helped make the process itself easier to tolerate. 7) Insurance & billing. They are really good with insurance (in fact are a preferred provider with several carriers), and if your insurance doesn't cover it, are very reasonable to work with. Pricing is fair and transparent and there are financing options. Again this compares with other facilities - a number won't deal with insurance at all, several have pricing that is way above RSC's and/or bill for things like phone calls by the minute, and others will force you to use certain (very expensive) third party providers for certain lab or other services (with whom they might even have economic relationships). 8) Dr. Reid and Laura, as people. This is a really difficult process and I can't imagine a pair of caregivers who could be any smarter, supportive, and downright sweet. Totally agree with the other reviewer who wrote "We wish we could continue our pregnancy with Dr. Reid". We're totally spoiled now and it will tough for any provider to live up to these standards! 9) Success. Proof is in the pudding - after going everywhere else, IT WORKED! read more

My husband and I had our first appointment with Dr. Reid at the end of September. We didn't wait long to get in to see her and she didn't rush the appointment at all. I was very nervous with going into an infertility treatment plan, especially since we had been going through infertility treatments through my OBGYN office. She very patiently explained that we could continue with another IUI Cycle with a different medication protocol with her but she recommends going right to IVF. I was so nervous to go to IVF. Dr. Reid and my case manager, Liz, along with Nazia and Julie have been tremendous; everyone has been - Dr. Wachs for one procedure and Dr. Weckstein for another. Everyone was patient, empathetic, answered every question we had. Infertility takes a toll - emotionally, physically, spiritually on you --- you're trying to be very specific with medications, blood tests, scans, etc. and yet at the end of the day everyone's body is different and you don't know what exactly will happen even though you are doing everything you can.
