I signed my husband up to try their trial. He used to do jiu jitsu over ten years ago and loved it. He has been out of shape lately and wanted revisit his old hobby. He was so excited despite being rusty and out of shape.
When he showed up to class, there was no one there except the instructor, who is a black belt. My husband explained to him that he's very out of shape and hasn't been on the mat for a decade or so. The instructor seemed annoyed and made him do very tough cardio and other warm ups. He kept leaving the room as well. My husband knows warm ups are essential and toughed it out, but he was so winded by the time they even tried anything on the mat. The instructor later lectured him for about 10 minutes, saying he needs to look in the mirror and what they just did was not jiu jitsu. He understands the instructor was just trying to be motivational, but it made him feel humiliated and absolutely crushed his spirit. I am very disappointed in this gym. I watched my husband leaving the house with an excited attitude then coming home very upset. I'm sure the instructor is very good at what he does and knowledgeable at the sport. But for this being a trial and knowing that a person is out of shape, they shouldn't have been too tough and started off easier. Not recommended for adult beginners. read more
