Finding a new gym after moving to Chicago was one of the hardest parts of the transition. As a…read morepurple belt who's been training for several years, I wanted a community where I'd feel supported instead of being pushed to the side like I've experienced at previous gyms. From the moment I reached out, everyone at Molinaro Jiu Jitsu was incredibly welcoming. They invited me to come in, and when I arrived, they already knew my name. Alex, the owner, introduced himself personally, was genuinely kind, and made me feel comfortable right away. The instruction has been exceptional. The technical details are exactly what I was looking for, especially since I wanted to improve my bottom game. Another huge highlight has been the number of women who train here, which is something I haven't experienced at past academies. It's been refreshing to be part of such an inclusive environment. The training is challenging in all the right ways, and I already feel like I'm growing as a grappler. Most importantly, I feel welcomed and like I'm part of the team rather than an outsider. That means more than I can express. If you're looking for high-level instruction and an amazing community, I can't recommend Molinaro Jiu Jitsu enough.

He is very kind, humble, detailed, cool, energetic, genuine, present, sincere, not greedy, etc etc etc lol. He's very young, but don't let that fool you-he knows his stuff! As a woman training jiu jitsu, I am very comfortable and safe training with Professor Alex and his students. He also doesn't discriminate (I'm a mom of three kids but he never tells me that a certain technique "is not for me") and I appreciate that so much. I started training with him August 2022. Wish I had met him sooner (cry!). I live in the suburbs and I wish I could go more often (another cry!)

I heard that Mondays and Tuesdays are the busiest days, but I haven't had any issues waiting for…read moreequipment to become available. They have the essentials to get a great workout in and the customers seem to respect the weights. There's damaged padding on some of the benches but that doesnt really bother me. The hours are kinda annoying, especially on weekends. Beware they start to kick people out a few minutes before actual closing time and are kinda rude about it. I get it, I freaking hate closing stores too, but let us stay til closing time. It's a super convenient location with a great view of the street. Shout out to Jessica! She signed me up and she was super nice and informative.

Frequently not cleaned well, broken…read moreequipment/locker rooms, staff is unhelpful, and they will try to raise rates even if you sign up for "lifetime" promotions. I went to this gym for years and it was such a frustrating experience. I love the location right in Wrigleyville, but they consistently got worse in terms of gym upkeep and cleanliness. Paper towels were never replace, equipment was broken and not fixed for months, locker rooms were gross (broken urinals for months, very infrequently cleaned). And while some of the staff members were very nice, for the most part, staff was either at the front desk on their phone, giving tours to prospective members, or working out themselves. Last year, for more than 6 months, 2 of the 3 urinals in the mens locker room were broken with plastic taped over them. And for a few weeks all three were broken along with multiple sinks. The locker rooms were always dirty and never had paper towels. Also, if you report something being dirty or broken to a staff member it wouldn't get addressed. But the most frustrating part was the fact that both my wife and I signed up for "lifetime" rates that we were promised would never increase as long as we kept our membership active. But then earlier this year, they tried to raise both our membership rates for "upkeep costs." It took multiple emails back and forth where the manager tried explaining that they had fine print in their contract that allowed them to raise prices even in "locked in" promotions. Only after I threatened to cancel my membership did he finally agree to honor my locked in price. Finally, after getting fed up with the state of the gym this year, it took over 6 weeks to finally cancel my membership because they were so unresponsive and unorganized. This gym has an amazing location and if you live in the area is very convenient, but for what you pay, you're much better off going to a nicer gym with more attentive staff, better ownership, and better upkeep.

Been a member here for over a year now and can honestly say this is the best gym Ive been a member…read moreat. I almost don't want to write this review because I like that Ive never had to wait for a machine, bench or rack. Less is more. First off, the gym is clean. I see them cleaning all the time. Thats probably the most important thing to me. I don't care if a gym has the latest and greatest equipment if its covered in body fluids and the place smells like ass, Im never going there. The staff at CFC is always available if you have questions. Managers keep everything under control. The personal trainers are friendly and helpful. You can take MMA classes with certified warriors. A UFC legend teaches class here. You can actually train with a bad ass who has gone to war many times in the octagon if thats your objective. They have an extensive selection of equipment for hardcore bodybuilders and regular gym goes. If you can't find at least a few pieces of equipment that you like here, maybe you should look into joining a pilates studio. Dumbbells here go up to at least 150 lbs. That isn't easy to find these days. Finally, they have 24/7 access which is nice for the occasional late night workout. If you can appreciate an older boxing and bodybuilding focused gym with good character, this place is 10/10.

I keep the "free trial class" tab open on my browser for 6 months before coming in - I was nervous I'd be too out of shape, too old to get started, just no good... Then I finally hit a breaking point and decided to just try one. While very very hard and extremely humbling - I was hooked right away. Felt incredibly motivated to get better... the kind of motivation you can only achieve by being repeatedly choked, swept, and submitted by people much smaller than you. Professor Greg and Coach Sandino have provided me consistent encouragement, education, and drive - they are great coaches, and if you are just starting out, their "fundamentals" weekday classes get ton of 1:1 instruction and depth. I've lost weight, improved my fitness levels, and generally feel a much happier and more confident person. Also been able to bring my 6yr old daughter along with me. She loves the kids classes, the hands on attention from the coaches, and learning self defense and discipline. I strongly recommend coming in for a trial class - the gym is welcoming, a great community, with tough competition but support along the way.

I am very glad I joined and I plan to continue for a long time.
