For years, I have treated this event like any other restaurant week in major cities. Look at the list of participating restaurants and see who was offering the most interesting deals. This years I decided to do it whole HOG: 1st of went to the opening ceremonies at Roundabout Grill (more on that in a separate review) and got my passport. Then I hit the 1920s Murder Mystery at Homage. Great fun, amazing savory bites but since I was Haddie Drinx (I didn't do it!) I drank more than I ate. So I hit Noble Pie for their slice, fries & a drink deal -- I guess I wasn't hungry because that's still in my freezer. Then is was WALKABITES - 4 amazing restaurants: Creazian, Chez Louie, Washoe Public, & Liberty - think of it as a progressive dinner where each restaurant gives you a bite and drink -- it was much more than a bite and each restaurant offered some darn good food. Then Chef Showdown - local chefs did battle a la Chopped for local bragging rights. Then Zozo's dinner & a magic show. In between, I hit up a bunch of other restaurants all in the good name of getting my passport stamped. All-in-all I collected 27 stamps but won NADA -- there's always 2018! When it was all said and done I needed a stomach pump -- too much food (half of which is in my freezer). The downside/suggestions: A few of the restaurants didn't understand the passport sticker process. Many places just offered the $30 option -- $10 & $20 Options would have made it easier to hit a few places a night . How about $5 or $10 dessert and/or cocktail options ?? I could over a lot of ground that way! I'm glad I did it. Not sure if my stomach can handle it again but I've got a whole year to train for it!

What do you find in the saloon? Whiskey, all kinds of whiskey.

One of the premiere adult events in Reno, Nevada, also is a fundraiser for the Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club. Too many generous businesses to name. Major adult beverage opportunity to find the new tastes in products served and available. Saki, tequila, beer, wine, bourbon, vodka, gin, you name it, it was there. Also thanks to the host, the Peppermill Resort and Casino for hosting the event, providing food for the masses that attended, as well as to all the local businesses that provided food and drink to make this spectacular event a huge success. An auction conducted for precious and delectable alcoholic beverages, a silent disco where everyone donned earphones to listen to great music and swayed, danced or listened to their favorites. Live performances by local artists and other bars with live music. A saloon with a bourbon to suit any and all tastes. Cognacs and brandies to suit your taste. This was the ultimate adult entertainment venue of 2018. Local merchants were there solely to provide food for all of us: Raleys, Brasierre St James, Wild Garlic Pizza, Los Compadres, and other local restaurants that helped raise money and allow those in attendance to have a great time. I cannot think of a better way to spend an evening and the same time, too many generous providers that I just cannot name them all but remember their excellent products that made it possible for Maria and I to say: looking forward to next year's Reno Bites event. Make plans to attend. A big thanks for the host the Peppermill Hotel and Casino. If you were not there, plan to attend next year , have a great time and support the Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club.

This was one of the only two Reno Bites Week Signature Events that I was able to make it to. We just recently tried South Creek pizza and really liked it, so there was no question that we'd enjoy this event too. After checking in and getting our build-you-own list and drink token, we headed to the bar to get our drinks. On someone else's recommendation, I tried the red sangria. It was good, but no matter how many times I try to convince myself otherwise, I'm just not a red wine person. During the cheese making demonstration, we all receive a caprese salad. It was a little non-traditional, but still tasty. Once the cheese was done, we all got to try a still-warm piece. Meanwhile, we made our pizza selections. I chose the sweetie pie and my boyfriend built his own (sausage, bacon, smoked mozzarella, basil, garlic, mushrooms, and their smoky sauce). I am still amazed at how quickly the staff was able to get all of our pizzas out so quickly! After gobbling up our delicious pizzas, we hung around for a while and chatted with other Yelpers. There was no rush to get us out because they were opening up for dinner service and the owners were so genuine in thanking us for joining them. I hope to see them participating in Reno Bites Week again next year! The only thing that I thought was weird, was that this event was listed as a signature event and there was a spot in the Yelp Passport for it, but occurred after the Chef Showdown were you turned in the passport for the drawing...

Today it was Reno chef showdown. They did a great job organizing it. We had a great time. Here are some pics

Minus a star- because we used to be able to park in the garage area- but now it's for high players and & $20.. Lucked out, and parked in the other lot near the freeway. Shocked that we were able to get free VIP tent tickets- ( rarely visit in the area).. how could I say no.. My youngest wasn't able to attend, so I sacrificed and enjoyed AYCE ribs.. I was set on visiting the other vendors to take some ribs home, but I ate too many-.. Rain stopped and enjoyed the festival ! Looking forward to another year..

The rib cook-off is definitely worth going to at least once, but honestly how many ribs can one eat?? It almost should be called a BBQ sauce smackdown rather than rib cook-off because seems like the sauce is the star nowadays. The ribs itself were ok. It was lacking the smokiness, some were hit or miss, being dry or not fall-off-the-bone tender, or were slathered in so much sweet BBQ sauce that you couldn't even taste the meat. - The juiciest ribs were from Aussom Aussie. - Butch's wasn't what I remembered years ago, not much flavor on the meat but the spicy BBQ sauce was my favorite. - BJ's was a total letdown. The sticky BBQ sauce was too sweet and covered up the too-dry ribs. - Bone Daddy's had a nice sear on the outside and had a bit of a smokiness. - Bison Rib from Montana was huge! But the meat was lean and SO chewy, I looked like a bison chewing on it. The prices now are insane. All samplers are an agreed upon monopolized price of $12 for 3 pork ribs. Every vendor sells the same price. Beef bones average $45-50. The VIP AYCE is so pricey that it's not even worth it. Enticing but who can possibly eat 20 ribs plus sides, beer and ice cream?! The setup is very nice and spaced out. There are trash bins everywhere, so the space is pretty clean. I liked how they have hand washing stations around also. The event is enjoyable only early morning or evenings. During the day is way to hot. Parking wasn't too bad since ppl come and go constantly and by the freeway, it's only a short 2 block walk. Fun event, but I left feeling greasy yet unfulfilled.

It's not a regret waking up 2 in the morning to see this magical event. The dawn patrol started at 5am so we were there about 3:30. Parking starts to fill at that time and we were all bundled up. If you plan to do this event, wear comfy shoes as there's a lot of walking to get to the parking and going into the park itself. There's $25 cash parking fee if you park at San Rafael. But if you park outside, it's always free. Bring blankets and folded chairs. There's merchants selling food and other things which start serving at about 5:30 am. The place is almost at full capacity as early as 5am so be there at least 3:30am. I'm sure you will have an amazing time! All balloons for Dawn Patrol ascended at 5:30. Then about 7am all the other balloons started going up. See you again, next year!

Its an early wake up for sure as the gates open at 3:30 and you should probably be there by 4:30 at the latest. the illuminations (glow) of the balloons before dawn is an incredible sight. They have all kinds of vendors selling food, drinks (including good bloody marys) and crafts. Its super cool being so close to the balloon crews and pilots. You are right there it the mix of it all and sometimes they might even ask you for a little help, which is fun. I got to help hold down a balloon basket just before launch. You can bet that I will be back each and every year to this very fun event. Another feather in the cap for Reno!
