We especially appreciated Julie, the receptionist, rounding up some sandwiches for us (They're transitioning to a new food vendor, and the grab-and-go case was nearly empty when we arrived.). We brought our sandwiches out to the gardens, where there are many seating areas with nice views. The historic mansion is beautifully decorated, a window into how this wealthy industrialist lived in the last century. Pam, the docent at the front desk, was full of interesting stories about the family and the house. We were surprised to learn from her that the curtains at the front of the house were the originals from the 1920s. With high ceilings and huge windows, every room has a beautiful view, even the servants' areas. I found the kitchen especially interesting. If you plan to visit Kingwood with small children, I recommend saving the mansion for another day. The beautiful staircase (faux painted with a feather!) has a low railing and wide spaces between the balustrades. It would be easy for a child to slip through and fall to the terrazzo ground floor.

There was a person at the gate that helped us with parking help us find the buildings that we needed. Everything was easily identifiable. Parking was ample. Our friends had parked their RV there seem to be many options for parking in RV just as many if not more options for parking cars. There's plenty of handicap space. The buildings were spacious and for 100° day relatively cool. One building appeared to have air-conditioning the other two seem to be cooled off by large pans, which worked just fine. The folks that work here are always friendly and helpful. The facility is a bit aged but always clean. Most events you pay to park or there is an admission fee, but prices always reasonable. Fee for the hobby show was $2.50 per person, not bad. You can also sign up to be a vendor at some of the shows, and table fees are reasonable.
