No visit to Mansfield is complete without stopping at Cypress Cellars. Though we thoroughly enjoy…read moreHudson and Essex, we particularly love Cypress Cellars! My wife and I took our mom out there arriving shortly after their opening on Thursday. Wish they would be open on Sunday as well, but you can't have everything in life. Ryan was bartending as he normally does. He is excellent in all regards! We particularly like his friendly professionalism and his knowledge around the cocktail bar. I started off with their barrel aged Manhattan, while my mom ordered a spiced pineapple margarita, and my wife a glass of wine. We seat at the bar for two reasons, the primary being our ability to kibitz with Ryan and others plus the fact that their specialty cocktails/bar appetizers are half off from opening till 7 PM! There was a cheese and crab dip, hot appetizer special that we ordered before our meals. It was really a rather large and delicious portion with five slices of grilled bread. Could've used a little bit more grilled bread, but we made it last. For meals, I ordered their Caesar salad, adding blackened salmon. Though salmon is not on the menu as an option. It is available if you ask. My wife and mom both ordered their small filet mignon. Our meals came out after a reasonable time and were extremely well presented and delicious! For dessert I decided on their chocolate chip cannoli while my mom and wife both ordered different dishes of gelato. What a terrific dinner out on Thursday night! I know we will be back!

Came here for a drink to get out of the cold. Super cool vibe in here. It's part of Hudson & Essex…read more It's on the ground floor. You can enter from H&E or a door in the back. It's like a cozy den. Some couches, regular 4 tops, the bar too. We sat on a couch by the TV. We ordered a cider on tap and the peach wine. They were both good. Sweet in front with a bit of a dry finish. You can taste any of the house wines if you like. Which is totally good. Test before buy. We did not eat just had a drink. Server was nice and accommodating. We sat and talked and watched some of the Olympics. Nice time for about an hour. Handful of people came in and out. I can see for dinner it being crowded or after dinner cocktails. Bar looks cool and plenty of drinking options. Prices aren't bad. Parking is free across the street. Cool place.

We especially appreciated Julie, the receptionist, rounding up some sandwiches for us (They're transitioning to a new food vendor, and the grab-and-go case was nearly empty when we arrived.). We brought our sandwiches out to the gardens, where there are many seating areas with nice views. The historic mansion is beautifully decorated, a window into how this wealthy industrialist lived in the last century. Pam, the docent at the front desk, was full of interesting stories about the family and the house. We were surprised to learn from her that the curtains at the front of the house were the originals from the 1920s. With high ceilings and huge windows, every room has a beautiful view, even the servants' areas. I found the kitchen especially interesting. If you plan to visit Kingwood with small children, I recommend saving the mansion for another day. The beautiful staircase (faux painted with a feather!) has a low railing and wide spaces between the balustrades. It would be easy for a child to slip through and fall to the terrazzo ground floor.

The current (summer 2026) art installation is particularly nice - the perfect scale for this very manageable place. The gift shop also has an excellent selection of both annual and perennial plants for sale, including many varieties featured in the gardens.
