Quick review:
Conservative theology, good kids programs for all ages (10:15 service for Jr. High/High School), great contemporary worship music, sermons aren't boring, and you will need to climb stairs to get to the auditorium (no elevators).
Long Review:
My wife and I moved to New Jersey in November and have been going here since December. It is a non denominational church that focuses on having a comfortable environment for both Christians and non Christians. From a personal point of view, my wife and I really like that we were able to connect with some younger couples in the church that were in the same stage of life that we were in (no kids, mid 20s-early 30s). With that said there is a very broad demographic of ages here.
The worship band is one of the things they are most proud of and I think that anyone musical would enjoy their song selection and style. Do note that it is not a traditional worship service and it can get loud so if you have sensitive ears, there are earplugs at the guest center. Personally, I have never felt it was uncomfortably loud and I am mildly sensitive to that. Nearly all of the band members are professional musicians and singers as a full time jobs so the quality is top notch.
The pastor's name is Chris Tretheway and he has been with the church for almost two years now. While we are still quite new to the church, I really like what he is doing with it. His sermons are very accessible to those who are new to Christianity as well as to people who are more "mature" in their faith. No pastor is going to be perfect for every person but I believe Chris has a good balance of appealing to a very broad audience while remaining true to fundamental theological beliefs.
The doctrine here is conservative but not in your face. If you are not familiar with conservative/liberal theology please note that it doesn't directly correlate with political beliefs so don't think that is what will be talked about on Sunday :-). This is conservative doctrine done right in my opinion and it is very welcoming to anyone who wants to come to church. Renaissance is a church that you can come and ask the hard questions and it is also a church that you can come and grow in your faith. read more
