If you're looking for a polished, modern, five-star hotel experience... stop reading now, turn…read morearound, and book yourself a Ritz-Carlton somewhere else. If you want authentic Wild West history, charm, character, and an unforgettable stay, then the Silver Queen Hotel is absolutely the place. This historic hotel dates back to the 1800s and is famously known for being haunted--and full of stories. The owner is a lovely woman who you'll often find tending bar downstairs herself. She's incredibly knowledgeable about Virginia City's history, current happenings, and yes... a little local gossip too . She also owns the Cobb Mansion B&B and truly embodies the spirit of this town. We adore her. We stay have started staying here every New Year's Eve--this was our second year, and we've already booked all of our rooms for next year. That alone should say a lot. The Silver Queen is rustic, antique, and unapologetically historic. There are no modern amenities like A/C, TV, or Wi-Fi--and that's exactly the point. This hotel was adapted from historic living quarters and offers a genuine glimpse into what Virginia City was like during the Gold and Silver Rush of the 1850s. The walls are thin (of course they are--it's old!), the rooms are quirky, and the entire experience feels like stepping back in time. The rooms are clean and have everything you need for a short stay. Would I stay here for a full week? Probably not. But for a night or two during special events--absolutely perfect. Virginia City hosts several saloon crawls throughout the year and they are an absolute blast. We try to make it to all of them, though sometimes we can only coordinate one or two. We'll be staying here again for the next crawl, 'The Devil Made Me Do It' Valentine's-themed saloon crawl. We always dress up for these events and staying the night at the Silver Queen is part of the fun. The Silver Queen always participates and always shows up in style. The bar downstairs is fantastic. Cocktails are very reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly, accommodating, and fun. It's exactly what you want from a historic saloon. One honest note: during our most recent stay, Room 11 had a noticeable moldy smell, and the carpet near the clawfoot tub was damp. While not surprising given a bathtub on carpet in an old building, it could definitely use attention--either deep cleaning or replacing the carpet with tile or another moisture-friendly option. Aside from that, the rooms are historic, funky, and immersive. As a former Nevada history teacher--I can confidently say this place is worth visiting. Virginia City itself is a historic marvel, literally built into a mountainside, and the Silver Queen is right in the thick of it all. The Comstock Lode silver mined here was so rich it helped end the Civil War and earned Nevada its statehood on October 31, 1864. Inside the Silver Queen, you'll find the iconic display of the "Silver Queen" made of over 3,000 silver coins, all minted from silver mined beneath the city itself. It's incredible. Add in the charming wedding chapel, and it's easy to see why so many people choose this place for unforgettable, historic weddings. Bottom line: This hotel isn't meant to be fancy. It's meant to be historic, and it delivers 110%. We love the Silver Queen Hotel & Bar, will always be regulars, and look forward to returning year after year--especially for New Year's Eve and local events. To be honest, we come to Virginia City quite a lot! It is a really fun place to visit and always has the most entertaining events that one would never see elsewhere! We live in Reno, so we are only 20 minutes away. We drive through here on our vintage car rallies and stop for drinks and lunch. We visit for special events. We will come up just for fun! Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, character, and the real Wild West.

The walls in the room are thin with gaps in the door with the floors so there is light that comes in from the hallways. Again, I need to be explicitly clear that it is a historic establishment, and they honored the space. None of these things bothered me, but are worth mentioning! My downside was that the electric plugs didn't really work and it made it difficult for us to charge our phones. And the next morning I did find a stain on my bedsheets. For that reason I took off a star. This was truly a one of a kind experience and worth a visit.

No. Restroom worked, shower was good, it was clean, no bugs, etc. Staff was professional. It was an "event weekend" so premium pricing. I get it, it's a supply and demand thing... but for the price we paid, I was definitely disappointed. The bed just flat wasn't comfortable... the mattress had some sort of hard ridge around the outside edge that even made it uncomfortable to sit on the edge. Sleeping in it was also uncomfortable. I was sore in the morning when I woke up... my hip still hurts a week later (i'm a side sleeper)... and actually, my hip STILL hurts a little bit a week later - and I've never had hip problems in the past! Sitting up at the head of the bed (to watch TV) didn't work very well because the headboard had an annoying moulding at the top that stuck out an inch or so right at head height... ugh. But in a weird way, that wasn't a huge deal because the TV was so small we couldn't see scores or other text on the screen. Not sure how big it was, but I'm guessing 21 or maybe 25 inches at the most. I guess I just expect more in a jacuzzi suite. idk. I feel bad for sounding cranky... but honestly, next time I consider a Virginia City adventure, I'll put some serious thought into staying at something like Gold Dust West in Carson City and doing the 15 minute or whatever commute. That's my current thinking, anyway. No hard feelings, just being real.

We stayed two nights. The motel is close to town. The Coffee provided in the morning was excellent and the registration process was smooth. I had accidentally booked two rooms for the same night and they quickly accommodated my request to cancel one of them; I ended up booking a second night. I imagine this place gets very HOT in the summer as they're in the direct path of the rising Nevada sun, without any shade. The room did get quite warm, even with the AC on high, and we visited during an average September day (highs in the high 70s/low 80s) The rain shower head was a confusing thing to turn off; rain shower heads don't really work in small showers cause you can't escape the water flow. They're wonderful in large showers. I appreciate they wanted to upgrade their bathrooms with this feature...but maybe include directions on how to shut it off. Side note; the tap water in VC is magical! It's so soft and it tastes amazing!! It's from a small lake adjacent to Tahoe. I'd definitely stay here again...but I'd probably bring my own bedding or bug spray next time.

We asked why the cleaning staff didn't let them know that there was an issue, and she said the housekeeper hadn't been there for a week. Shouldn't they check the place before renting it out if it's been locked up in the winter for a whole week? If we knew we weren't going to get a refund, we would have tried something else but I think we were told this to get us to leave. So disappointing and sad. When we arrived for our reservation, we noticed that the parking lot was almost completely empty. The empty parking lot matched the buffet when we walked inside. Unfortunately, the staff said that was the last of the food and they were not putting any more out. What they did have left, was warm at best and was mediocre flavor. The so-called sweet potato casserole was an abomination to put it nicely. I lived in Alabama for five years, and my husband was born and raised in Alabama. Neither one of us could swallow one bite. They tasted like they were made with chunky peanut butter. The staff was the best part of the evening. They were bubbly and friendly. We will definitely give Gold Hill another shot but we will definitely pass on any of the buffet style dinners in the future.

As soon as you book the reservation you get a huge email laying out what to expect at the mansion including directions and what to expect. The email then goes in and tells about the town and its MANY attractions and history and how to contact those business. Once we arrived, a note in the door said to "call Connie once you arrive and are ready to check in...LOL'! We thought this was great and gave it a very "homey" atmosphere. Connie also owns a bar/saloon in town called The Silver Queen, which has been featured on Ghost Adventures and is worth a trip there in its own merit and that is where she was when we arrived. She basically said...walk in the side door, go straight ahead and turn right and the door to your room is right there with the key in it. Let me know if you need anything else...LOL. We thought that was just the best! The rooms were very clean and comfortable and had AC, TV, Keurig coffee maker, private bath, and ours had a patio outside. We took a self guided tour around the house, as no one was there, and fell in love with the place. The big thing that sets it apart from any other place that we have been is the fact that the owner, Connie, is the one who literally cook you a three course gourmet breakfast every morning! We stayed in the Silver Street House, built at the turn of the century. It contains four rooms named after the four Irish miners who became known as the Silver Kings of the Comstock. Our room, William O'Brien, had the famous "One Hundred Mile View" down 6-Mile Canyon to Carson Plains and beyond. The room was equipped with a queen bed, old fashioned make-up table (I used it as a makeshift desk for my laptop), ceiling fan, window air conditioning unit, full bathroom, and small flat screen TV. As the morning sun broke through from the east, a quiet and beautiful day was just about to start. After a restful sleep, I wrestled with my mind to get up. Edith Palmer's Country Inn provides a home-cooked breakfast to order. Breakfast is served in the Cider Factory which was originally established in 1863. There is seating inside and outside in the courtyard. It was such a cool and beautiful morning, we decided to enjoy our breakfast outside under the shade of a tree. A plated breakfast of pancakes topped with chunky raspberry syrup and whipped cream, bacon, and scrambled eggs were served along with coffee and choice of juice. The pancakes were fluffy and tasted like homemade. The syrup and whipped cream gave it a slight sweetness. The bacon was perfectly cooked with a smoky, salty flavor. The scrambled eggs were a bright yellow and fluffy.
