My husband and I were recruited to come work in NL and have leased a home. We first signed with R. DECKER AND EXIT REALTY ON THE ROCK- the very next day that company was in the news having been shut down for various transgressions. R Decker is now with ReMax.
By the 4th month of our 6 month lease, the owner of the property wanted to know if we were staying. We were thinking of buying the house and needed to get working on selling our property in the states and qualifying for a loan. During that time we received word through the agent -now R Decker with ReMax, that she was not interested in a short term lease and wanted 1 year with a $ 400 increase per month and 12 checks. We decided we would look around and immediately the agent began a campaign of showing the house every few days. We said no to father's day and times we were at work, but we always offered alternative times. We work in a different town and commute daily (3 hours) our teenage kids don't drive and stay home during the week. We dont have friends or famiky here, wave tried to be reasonable .
Now the agent has put a notice on our door saying we have to vacate in 7 days. They state we are not allowing access to the house. They have come in every time they have wanted to-whether we like it or not. The Tenancy Act is not being followed and we will address that with the right people. We are happy to keave-and here is where ReMax appears to black ball us.
We found two homes we put offers on to lease-both with Remax-both with a different agent.
Even though they are advertised for lease-we have been told they are not available for US to lease. Is this how Newfoundland works? What have we done bringing our families here and what will we do now? ReMax has most of the homes we have liked -how can they be so unprofessional? That is certainly not looking out for the best interests of their clients. I question whether our offers were even presented. I have asked for the declination in writing on both-somehow the owners are out of town and I need to wait for this, so we're they really told about the offer?
If I had a home listed with them it would bother me to know they were picking and choosing who could lease or purchase my home based on rumors about people or a back office agreement to make it difficult for someone an agent does not like.
I am cautioning people away from Remax-they may not operate with transparency and or integrity. We will see how this goes. If things change, I will update my review. In the long run, from a work perspective, I will make sure all of the people we recruit know our story and as we develop preferred vendors, they will not be included. read more
