After stumbling across the one review of MMRC that I see posted in Yelp, I cannot let this gross…read moreinjustice go unaddressed, nor can I fathom how anyone could give MMRC less than a 5-star rating ... and I would go far beyond that if I were allowed to do so. My first experience with MS. Rehab was in 2008, I believe, when my wife -- who was wheelchair-bound by Multiole Scleroses and severe scoliosis -- had undergone urostomy surgery. I spent every night in her room with her for three weeks, and I eye-witnessed the best nursing and rehabilitation care one could hope to find anywhere on Planet Earth, not merely in the Jackson community. Her room and all areas of the facility were (and still are!) very well designed to meet the needs of professional proficiency and to extend the highest imaginable level of comfort and a nurturing atmosphere for patients, family, and visitors in terms of lovely decor and high quality, state-of-the-art equipment and furnishings -- all maintained immaculately by courteous staff who diligently avoid disturbing either activities or rest for patients and their guests. And the food has no resemblance to ordinary "hospital food" -- MMRC's is very, very tasty, fresh, nutritional, and downright good ... and I am a picky eater! Eight years later in 2016, I suffered a stroke, after which I was very fortunate to be admitted to MMRC for rehabilitation so I could return to functioning in my career. As chance would have it, my MS-disabled wife underwent a surgery that was essential to her relief of chronic pain as well as her functionality. MMRC admitted her under unusual circumstances because the two of us would have to learn how to help each other with tasks which we suddenly found ourselves incapacitated to perform individually as we'd always done. This time I experienced the extraordinary care of MMRC both as an observer of the care given to my wife (whose room was in another section of the facility from mine because our needs for treatment were different) AND I myself experienced the Center as a patient. My wife and I were able to enjoy meals together and visit in each other's room as well as the quite comfortable public spaces. Our therapists were notably outstanding, taking personal interests in our rehabilitation and in every other aspect of our well-being. Both of us soon counted a number of personnel as new friends who demonstrated that they cared deeply for us. Since leaving MMRC as a patient and as a family member, I've heard personal accounts from numerous others who would subscribe to and endorse the same testimony I've given here, no doubt having more tributes to offer, in fact. Several of them suffered from spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and many other forms of accidents and afflictions that I might assume were more traumatic and threatening to living a quality lifestyle than were the issues which put Anne and me under MMRC's care. I could write pages and pages more, but I believe I should stop here. for the sake of brevity. I assure those who read this that nothing of what I've said is exaggerated, embellished, or otherwise hyperbolic. I am and always will be indebted to MS. Methodist Rehab for their world-class service to my wife and to me. MMRC is among U.S. News & World Report's highest rated rehabilitation centers in the country, and that list includes facilities serving substantially larger metropolitan areas than ours. I know of no institution of any kind anywhere that could match the high esteem in which I hold Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center!

My dear father and our family was very happy with the care he received, and communication with us. I feel each aide and manager really went out of their way to meet us all on a caring human level. I happened across a listing for Visiting Angels on an internet search for my Mom's area. It was a little hard to persuade my Mom to let someone come help her, but she is in so much pain she agreed. The ad says 24 hour service and I don't care what time you call they answer the phone. Ms Christy answered my call and she has taken care of getting everything set up and has answered that phone every time I have called. The process for getting her visited for an initial interview, so they could send a caregiver to her home, could not have been easier. Mom was worried about them sending a man but when Reese arrived he set her at ease. She said "he was sooo nice". My Mom is a little particular (I am being kind), and does not like people she doesn't know coming to her home, so I was a little worried about finding someone who would make her feel comfortable and do things to her satisfaction. Well she had her first visit from Carlotta today and barely 2 minutes after Carlotta was scheduled to leave my phone rang. Mom could not stop raving about Carlotta. She said that Carlotta was "perfect". She said, "she even cleans things the way that I clean". That is very high praise coming from my Mother. Mom said "she fixed everything, cleaned up, took care of everything I asked and she couldn't be more perfect. I just love her." I am more happy than you can imagine. I was so worried about not being able to be there for Mom but Visiting Angels has alleviated my worry. From start to finish they made this process easy and have been so professional and caring. So I just wanted to say, Thank you so much for taking such good care of my Mom. Y'all are wonderful. Barbara West

We placed Mom who is in her 90's in Highland Home, Ridgeland, MS for rehab after hip replacement…read moresurgery. Due to our knowledge of shortage of staff in most rehab/nursing home facilities, our family made the decision to provide around-the-clock care for our Mom, which included bathing, feeding, bathroom assistance, etc. The administrative, housekeeping, OT/PT & the majority of the floor nurses & CNAs were very kind and helpful, the accommodations and food were very good. However, our major concern was the medical leadership team. Our Mom began having urges to go to the bathroom throughout the day & night (as many as 30 times between 12am-12-pm-we kept a log & shared with nursing staff). Due to the severity of these urges, Mom could not rest or stay in her OT/PT sessions. On the advice of a medical family member, we asked medical staff at Highland Home to order urinalysis to determine if she had a UTI. My sister made them aware that a small amount of feces was in the bedpan they used to collect the specimen which contaminated the results. To our knowledge they did not redo the test, but informed us that she did not have a UTI. The urges continued & we assumed it was her early dementia. The day after she was discharged, we carried her to her primary physician who immediately diagnosed her with a UTI & prescribed an antibiotic. To us, this was clear evidence of medical negligence, as the UTI could have escalated from a bladder infection, treatable by an antibiotic, to a serious life-threatening condition such as sepsis. As a facility that specializes in providing care for a largely elderly population, one would think that, when certain symptoms present, testing for a UTI should be part of the medical protocol. Our mother suffered unnecessarily for several days, when a simple test and antibiotic treatment could easily have resolved the issue. Due to the severity of this medical negligence and lack of follow-through from the medical leadership team, we cannot in good faith recommend Highland Home in Ridgeland, MS.
