But first, a bit of background on Parkview Hills, where Woodstone Apartments is located. Established in the late 1960s by Dr. Batts (founder of the Kalamazoo Nature Center, as well as a professor of ecology and ornithology at Kalamazoo College) and Mr. Upjohn (you'll be familiar with that name - he was a local businessman and philanthropist; the ER at Borgess Medical Center is named after him), this planned community includes houses, condos, and apartments. There are 288 acres in Parkview Hills, which include several lakes, streams, marshland, fields, wooded areas, and plenty of trails. Living here is like living AT a nature center - but with the amenities of being on a city bus route, and a gorgeous and useful clubhouse (we use the pool almost every day). We were lucky enough to rent an apartment in Woodstone and have been here for many years. One of the things that I love most about living here is the diversity of fellow tenants. There is a wide age range, from senior citizens to families with young kids. I absolutely LOVE seeing kids play out in the safe, grassy area tucked in the L of the apartment. At night, you'll see other kinds of kids playing - the local fawns! Parkview Hills has a sizeable deer population, and it's just lovely to watch them graze at night. I also appreciate living in a community that is globally diverse. We might need to get some potlucks going up in the gathering room on the 3rd floor! I always learn something from everyone I talk with - everyone is so friendly, and lifelong friendships have been established for sure. Management is efficient and speedy when dealing with requests. Dan (maintenance) is incredibly friendly and good at his job, promptly fixing drains, lightbulbs, and the like; Brandee (property manager) is always swiftly on top of things, especially when dealing with problems that can inevitably arise in an apartment building. I appreciate their thorough and timely assistance when needed. I also love the secure building, the availability of plenty of handicap parking spots, Parkview Hills Security, the amenities of and activities at the clubhouse (Chinese cooking lessons with WMU's Confucius Institute; monthly art gatherings, and the like), and the extensive trails for walking. I can't imagine a better place to live, with better neighbors and management. If you're lucky enough to live here, you'll concur.

Get flood insurance with your renters just in case. I pay $11 a month to cover $25,000 Grounds: well kept, plenty of parking. Noise: we're in the woods. The only sound is your neighbors. I'm sure if there were a 12 semi pile up on the freeway, you may hear that. You can also faintly hear sirens when they go by on 9th st or N ave. Utiliies: water is hot almost immediately, thermostat does a good job regulating temperature. Heat and range are gas, included in rent (thank god, cuz its Michigan). You pay electric, we use candles and natural lighting through windows and hardly use lights anyway. Amenities: range, microwave (in some units), fridge and good washer/dryer units. I have a 1 Bed and it is spacious. My fiancé and I are very happy here and our friends are quite jealous. The cost/benefit here is absolutely in your favor. Finally, my only demerit to give is the internet. This internet is called "Bloom" and it is the (in most cases) only available service. It is downright inhumane. $51 for 12 mbs, $41 for 3mbs. A speedtest will show less than 1mbs. So if you game a lot, watch netflix a lot or are addicted to porn, watch out, you may end spending more time "socializing" or reading books *shudders* Oh and TV is Dish network, don't have it, don't need it with an antenna and "internet" Overall, best option in town, there is a reason you will be on a waiting list. We got lucky and walked in at the right time.

You're gonna have to get an internet plan. An employee commented on my roommates review saying simple to buy internet like everyone else and to stop complaining, and then ended up taunting him for complaining in the first place because it's "so easy to sign up for internet" and "it says no where in your lease that the internet was fast" well. We were told in person, we were told online. Last year our fridge broke down and our food went bad, they "fixed" it three times and then we said we wanted a replacement because we were tired of throwing away food. A girl in the office said "you're not just gonna get a new fridge" well no one paid to replace our groceries either... but hey maybe having things they told us we would have upon signing a lease are just all amenities and we should stop complaining. Save yourself the time... they need to look at the staff again. I signed here because of how friendly and accommodating they were at the beginning. That's gone down hill. Hopefully, moving forward, they correct that. A lot of their 5 star reviews on Facebook are actually from employees that work in the office :)
