I had laser eye surgery with Mr. Khalid Ikram in January 2013. It has ruined my life. I was not informed of many of the permanent complications I now live with.
As a result of the laser eye surgery, I now suffer from recurrent corneal erosions, which is like being stabbed in the eye with a needle when you wake up. My eyes are so dry that I have to wake up every few hours to put eye drops in. This has meant that I have not had a good nights sleep in the last 5.5 years, as I am always afraid that I will have an erosion.
I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THIS. I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE SURGERY IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS RISK.
As a result of the laser surgery, I now have permanent corneal neuropathic pain. This pain is unrelenting and there is no known treatment or cure.
I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THIS. I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE SURGERY IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS RISK.
I also now suffer with glare during the day time when looking at sources of light, such as a TV screen or a computer monitor.

My life has been ruined. I found 6,100+ people on Facebook on a group called LASIK COMPLCATIONS FACEBOOK GROUP who also suffer from symptoms similar to mine. Some people on there are relatives of people who have committed suicide.
Even people who think they have had a positive outcome from laser eye surgery, actually have weakened corneas. The tensile strength of the eye is reduced to 2% of the main surface area. They can have corneal ectasia, a devastating complication, many years later. The LASIK flap can be dislodged by being poked in the eye by a child. Mr. Ikram never told me any of this.
I am very disappointed that Mr. Ikram did not discuss these potential complications with me. I also asked Mr. Ikram where my complications would be recorded, so that future patients can fin out about how often these complications would occur. I was told that they would only be logged in my patient record. SO HOW ON EARTH ARE OTHER PATIENTS EVER GOING TO KNOW ABOUT THE RISK AND RATES OF THESE COMPLICATIONS THAT YOU FAILED TO TELL ME ABOUT?
These complications made my life as a pharmacist unbearable, and I had to give up this job as my career and retrain in something else.
My story was also featured in the Daily Mail. It can be found by googling 'Sohaib Ashraf Daily Mail' and the article is called "Thinking of laser eye surgery? Yes, it could transform your life, but for some the results can be devastating -- and leave you with bitter regrets"
