Ever since my rusty Volvo and I first pitched up in Sheffield, I've been a loyal customer of…read moreGelder's on Sharrowvale Road. I found them at random in the Yellow Pages, while looking for a local garage - they specialise in Volvos, and so having one myself, they seemed ideal. I'd always been a bit wary when using a garage for the first time without recommendation, especially as a woman - would they see me coming? But I needn't have worried here. They always take time to explain what needs doing, and never seem to carry out any unecessary repairs. Their invoices are clear and easy to follow, and prices are excellent - if you have a Volvo then they can usually source reconditioned spares at very good prices. When I showed my bills from Gelder's to my dad, who works in a garage at the other side of the country, he confirmed how reasonable they are. My Volvo has long been relegated to the scrap merchant, but I've continued to use Gelder's, as they will repair other car makes too, although it might take them a bit longer to source spares. They don't do MOTs, but they have an agreement with a MOT centre nearby, so they can usually complete the process within the day provided not too much needs doing. Highly recommended!

Who quoted me three weeks before they could look at my car. The guys agreed to take a quick look that afternoon, no problem, pushed back the front disc back plate which was catching and said that's it sorted, proper customer service. The Main dealer in Chesterfield had fitted the new discs two weeks earlier, suffice to say I wont be ringing them any time soon

I am writing to advise you that a trade car seller is using your site to sell un-roadworthy…read morevehicles, I found a car through Autotrader I went and viewed the car and it seemed ok on the surface and I needed a car, he told me that it had recently undergone a full new brake system and was in great condition, I believed him and paid £3000 for the car. A week later the car began to go wrong and I informed him, he initially ignored me but then emailed me back and allowed me to take the car to him for 'his mechanic' to look at, this mechanic apparently found nothing wrong with it so he offered to fraudulently take out his external company extended warranty. At their request I had the car inspected and the car was deemed un-roadworthy by an independent mechanic (after only owning it for 2 months) but the warranty only apparently covered breakdowns so I lost out. The issues were: - Failed Electronic Brake System All Brake Discs well below legal limit (despite being told they had been recently done) Failed OSF McPherson Strut Broken OSR Spring Excessive Oil usage (which eventually blew the turbo and engine after owning it for only 6 months) Excessively worn drive shaft which also went after owning the car for 5 months. I personally had to do around £500 worth of work to get it through its MOT which it failed 5 months after the sale of the car to me. The trader refused to respond to my emails so I took him through a small claims track but sadly the trader lied in his defence and claimed that I too was a motor trader and received a discount on the retail price and took the car 'sold as seen' knowing the car was in bad shape. This was a total lie, as I am not a trader and never have been. The claim got struck out of court leaving me a further £100 out of pocket. This car has financially ruined me as I have to have a 6 seater car at least and I have now due to such a horrible ordeal had to resort to a approved used car from a reputable dealership as I cannot afford another version of this. Avoid these con artists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The same things happened to me; they sold me a car supposedly in great working order with only slight cosmetic issues. When I took the car for a M.O.T myself I found that there were a number of issues and that the car brakes were in shocking state, when I confronted these people I was told it wasn't there problem and that any of the faults on the MOT were not covered under the warranty. I also didn't notice the description on the bottom of the sales invoice with regards to major mechanical faults, if I had there's no way I would have bought the car as I could risk injuring my family or anyone else driving a faulty car. Unfortunately I didn't see this web site but if I did I wouldnt purchase anything from them, I've contacted trading standards for help and am seeing what the next step is to getting my money back. I just hope people see this information and don't buy from them.
