This guys are a joke. Used to be a benchmark 10 years ago. They can't get one thing right during tax seasons. I've been lied to about a call being made when it obviously wasn't; my address was incorrectly entered for the IRS and after 14 years they called to verify my information. They also used to be $150 and now they are $250 - while the quality went from $150 to $15. You constantly have to chase them; you have to follow up; you have to email; you have to call. Something needed? Be ready to email 3 times and call on top of it. I honestly don't understand how these guys are still in business. I can tell by the stars that this 5* establishment is now barely able to cling to a 3* average. I deal with these guys once a year and it stresses me out for the whole 12 months. I might as well use TurboTax. read more

I have passed this place a million times and thought of going in and I did this year. I found the services here very affordable, budget friendly. They have late hours too! The front offfice personnel (Nicole) was very informative and helpful. She told me what to expect and could fit me in quickly (same day). The tax representative (Cesci) was extremely knowledgable and walked me through the process. The office was professional. Great experience. Parking is tricky (temporarily) because of the construction. The parking garage across the street you will need a metro card or credit no cash, the street parking is available during certain hours on Viers Mill side. The Wheaton Mall is across too. I HATE paper work, and filling forms - I am the kind of person who messes up a form for a gym membership and can't answer where I lived for the past 6 months without some furious calculations in my mind (and still come up with a weird confused answer). If you hand me a form to fill, i'm like a deer in headlights - dazed, confused and ready to dart off in the opposite direction. Needless to say, form filling and legal paperwork is NOT for me. Raj makes the entire process painless and hassle free. Once we got seated, he asked me a bunch of questions in a very conversational manner and before 30 minutes were up- he was done! I have worked with 3 different people at Refund Plan, I have to say that Raj is the best! I would wait a while to have him do my taxes, than let someone else touch my W2s really! Which is what brings me to the one star I took off - the wait can be abysmal - even with an appointment made a week in advance. I have never been here without waiting at least an hour - and given that this year I got my taxes out of the way in mid Feb (when people are not yet running around frantically for a CA), I would have expected a lower wait time. However, while I was waiting this time, Raj came out personally and told me he would be with me soon and take care of my taxes himself (I had insisted on the phone that my appointment be made with him and no one else). All in all, I am glad my taxes are out of the way sooner than later .. without much ado too.. thanks to Raj! Oh by the way, I decided that I if I waited and thought too much about what my first review was going to be, the year would get over haha! Sooo.. this is my first review for 2014! read more

We've been having our taxes done here for several years now. Raj and his team are fantastic professionals. Tax season can be really stressful, and they calmly walk you though all the steps and are responsive to follow-up questions. They make sure to cover all the bases to get us a great refund, and often bring up deductions we wouldn't think of. I give them special kudos because they didn't miss a beat when COVID hit and we just got our taxes done over the phone this year after dropping off paperwork. I hope no one has as terrible an experience as I have had. Refund Tax Plan (specifically the owner, Raj) was recommended to me by a colleague. I needed a professional because my husband is not currently living in the US, so I needed to navigate the Earned Foreign Income Exclusion option. Unfortunately, although the seasonal hire assigned to my file said she could do this, she was obviously not actually familiar with this option. But before we even got that far, it was already a mess. First, my tax return was filed while we were still in the middle of the process. Instead of being upfront and acknowledging the mistake, the seasonal hire never told me! Instead, later, when the IRS sent me a letter, requesting that I call to verify my identity, I did not provide the correct answers because I did not realize that I had (a) an original return AND (b) an amended return. So I had to make an appointment at an IRS service center to identify why my return didn't match the IRS's. When it became clear that I was not even aware of what Refund Tax Plan had filed, the woman at the IRS patiently waited while I called Raj, to find out what had happened. She also gave me her employee number, so I could return the next day -- with Raj -- so we could get to the bottom of the issue. Raj was very apologetic. He promised to refund the money I had paid his company for my tax preparation and pay the interest that the IRS would charge for the difference in the original tax return amount and the amended tax return amount. So I was feeling better. Then, he fielded my questions regarding my tax return. It was then that I asked: "Explain to me where I see the Earned Foreign Income Exclusion for my husband on this return," and we realized that his seasonal hire had not done this at all. So my tax had to be completely redone and a second amendment had to be filed. Now, the difference in my tax refund was 50% of what had been listed in my original return. That meant several thousands of dollars now need to be returned to the IRS, and in the meantime, the IRS is already charging interest on this money. It also meant that I needed to change my filing status from married filing jointly to married filing separately. Now, this is a big one, because I had waited to make a ROTH IRA contribution until after I had verified with the tax preparer that I was eligible. But, 3 months later, my filing status needed to be changed and I was no longer eligible to make a ROTH IRA contribution. So that means penalties and fees now to undo that action. So I email Raj, to follow-up on how to unravel this terrible knot his season hire got us into. But Raj doesn't return my emails. So I call him and he confirms a phone appointment with me for the following week. And then he doesn't honor our appointment. I email and I don't get a response. To me, it looks like, now that Raj has realized what a terrible mess his hire created, he wants to walk away from all of this. When he thought the mistake of his hire was small (the issues caused by the first amendment she filed, without my knowledge) he promised to refund my money and cover the cost of the interest incurred. But the mistakes of his hire were far more costly than what he originally understood. And instead of making it right, he appears to be walking away. I cannot believe any business owner can manage to have any customers if they treat people like how I have been treated. This has been a nightmare experience that I hope no one else ever experiences. read more

We stopped in without an appointment because we needed a notary to witness two signatures. Raj was friendly and welcoming, as was his office manager. Raj notarized our pages quickly and also made sure that we were aware of what we were signing and what it meant (we did but his extra attention was appreciated). Totally unresponsive and unprofessional. Just to get copy of your past filed taxes is next to impossible. Tax returns were filed without showing to me and had my address wrong then was told they would waive charges for amendment! Missed out $3600 in Covid relief because the preparer didn't know and didn't think it was her responsibility to know. By lumping both 2018 and 2019 I didn't qualify. Plus ended up paying more than that was told to federal and state. Utterly incompetent. Raj seems knowledgeable and nice but he is not the one doing any work. And when I wrote to them outlining all the problems and asking for help-no response to several requests. read more

I had a really great experience with Raj. I was completely overwhelmed and confused with my taxes and Raj took care of everything when it came to getting me filed. He walked me through the process and asked a lot of questions that I hadn't thought of and was patient with my lack of experience. Raj Agarwal did my taxes from 2014-2016. This year I was hit with over $1,500 in fines from both the IRS and the state of MD for the years in which Raj did my taxes. I have reached out to Raj multiple times for help dealing with the problems that he created and have received no response. I believe he is avoiding responsibility for his sloppy preparation of my taxes. I recommend staying far away from this accounting firm whether it is for your taxes or accounting needs. read more

I have been using Refund Plan for something like ten years now, and I could not be more grateful for their fantastic services. They are so helpful and thorough in ensuring that I've incorporated all possible deductions, and that I'm covering all my bases. Last year in particular, I had waited until the absolute last possible minute to request an extension on the busiest day of the year (like 4:15pm on tax day) and they actually took care of it for me before the filing deadline. And then (separately) the city screwed up its records and claimed I hadn't paid my taxes several years ago, and was insisting on charging me an inordinate amount of money, and Refund Plan spent hours filing the necessary forms and clearing up the city's mistake on my behalf without ever charging me for it. I've worked with different accountants at Refund Plan over the years, and they've all been wonderful. And while I interface with them in English, they're multilingual too. Couldn't recommend them more highly. read more

I am not having the option to give less star than this.(horrible experience) I worked with almost 5 different people for single tax filing. everyone will tell that they will call back to me in 30mins to 1hr and all the 5 different people they never call. they will schedule a call and never call me. When I tried to call back to them, a new person will answer and I need to explain what questions I am having. Instead of spending hours to get hold of them, I felt I can take time to file my taxes.It is much easier than breaking my heads to explain to each person. read more

A friend referred me to this place for taxes... Couldn't be any happier. Price is very reasonable compared to other places. Another place would've charged 125 for 30 minutes and 200 for 1 hour or more, but I paid a very reasonable price for tax prep services! Raj knows what he's doing and he's very thorough compared to my previous experiences w/ tax services in other places. Now I know what to expect for next year and what to exactly bring for 2013 taxes! Talk about procrastination! I hate doing taxes as much as anyone which is why I've been coming here for the past 3 years. Raj, Mahesh and their people are awesome and know there shit when it comes to getting your taxes processed and filed properly, whether you're owed a refund or if you've gotta pony up to Uncle Sam. It usually takes me about an hour or so to do my taxes, including my business taxes (which they're very good at). Very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. Point of note I probably don't need to state, but they get really busy during the final 2 weeks or so before taxes are due. Regardless, they never rush you in and out the door and are very thorough. The staff here is great. They're very friendly and customer service oriented, which is definitely a refreshing change. I found my experience with Refund Plan to be very pleasant. I was warmly welcomed by Luis when I entered. Raj had a client ahead of me, so Luis took my paperwork for some data entry - to minimize the wait once it was my turn. I found Raj to be thorough in his questioning and I am pleased by the amount of my return. They even included me and their other client in a Starbucks run. Last but not least - cost was very reasonable - I was definitely ripped off by H&R Block last year. I will be returning next year. read more

I have used refund plan for maybe 10 years and for the most part, I felt that they did a decent job. I never liked the fact that they never really stuck to appointments, but at least someone would come and let you know the status. But this year has been absolutely horrible. It is like they have no management whatsoever. First appointment for 2017 was made over a month ago, I arrive and wait almost an hour past appointment. I walk out because no one is giving me any sort of estimate after I have checked in like twice. After walking out, no follow up calls. After me thing to do my own taxes using bad software, I try refund plan again. This time as a phone appointment since I don't want to wait hours in their office because clearly, appointments mean nothing to them. No one calls me for his appointment for last Friday at 7pm. I call multiple times. Finally someone calls me at 10pm. I tried calling back a few minutes later, but the person is now working on another client. Says they will call back - never does. I reschedule for last night at 8:30. I even call an hour ahead to confirm they will call me. The receptions says they will. No one calls. I call them at 8:45. They say someone will call me in 20 min. No one calls. This happens one more time. And then I gave up. I will use turbo tax online. I should have done that in the first place. Save your money and try doing your own taxes. The time I waisted dealing with this bad customer service is unbelievable. And no follow up still. read more
